IVF Cycle buddies March/April

I know we are only partway through February, but I'm down to start our 2nd round of IVF once my period starts at the end of this month, so thought I'd start a cycle buddies thread now as I gear up..!
Our history is that we have a 3.5yo DS, naturally conceived, but have been trying for a sibling for 2 years now... we had an ectopic pregnancy just over a year ago, but after that nothing... so as I'll be 40 next month, we decided there wasn't time to waste anymore and had all the tests last year but we are 'unexplained'... so we had a cycle of IVF in November/December but sadly was unsuccessful as ended in a chemical pregnancy. So here we go again - fingers crossed it's 2nd time lucky...! If anyone else is starting soon then would be great to have the support! Xx

Great news ozzy one step further.
Afm feeling much more positive today, think I spent most of yesterday in tears. But today is another day and this WILL work!!
Hope everyone else is ok. Good luck to anyone that has scans etc today x

Ozzyboo · 12/04/2017 10:57

Glad to hear that Bjones! (The feeling positive part not the spending all day in tears part!) it's such a rollercoaster of emotions, the hardest part is trying to stay positive without letting yourself get too carried away! X

BeePositive · 12/04/2017 11:13

That is good news Ozzy. They will be looking for follicles of ideally 16-20 but can work with ones over 13 I believe from when I had my EC. So you're on the right track, great stuff!
Sorry for the tears Bjones but pleased to hear you are feeling more positive today Keep it up!
I've got my progress scan today, just to check how my lining is thickening and hopefully will stop the Buserelin injections tonight, and be on track for FET next week. Lots of positive thoughts all round!!

Ozzyboo · 12/04/2017 12:52

Thanks for the explanation beepositive! Glad we're all in high spirits today 🤗 x

lulahbelle · 12/04/2017 15:12

Lovely to hear from you blackcherries, Wanda and geeup - hope you're all ok and good luck for your next cycles.

Sorry the tww is dragging for you Hobbes, bjones and Hope - even though it's not actually that long, the whole process of an IVF cycle seems to go so slowly!

Ozzy - your scan results sound good - EC shouldn't be too far off hopefully!

bee - hope your progress scan went well.

Had my EC and they got 8. All got a bit stressful as when they looked at DH's "donation", they found an issue which hadn't shown up in his original SA which explains why ttc naturally hasn't worked and has meant we're now doing ICSI and keeping fingers crossed for good news tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is well!

Ozzyboo · 12/04/2017 15:51

Congrats on the EC luhlabelle! How do you feel about that news? I can imagine a sense of relief to have an answer? X

bjonesreborn · 12/04/2017 16:12

lulah 8 is a fab number, well done. Sorry they found a problem but at least they picked up on it and are going the best way now for you. Everything crossed for you for tomorrow x

BeePositive · 12/04/2017 18:49

8 is agood number Lulah and probably a bit of a surprise with news on DH's sperm, but at least they are going direct to ICSI for you. With my previous cycle they did half IVF and half ICSI with my EC 'collection'. Unfortunately none of the IVF fertilised, but most of the ICSI follies had. So definitely a good direction for straight to ICSI for you. Fingers crossed for good fertilisation now!
My progress scan went well today. I have a bicornuate uterus, and one side is 10 and the other is 12.5 - so lining is thickening nicely. I'm pleased Smile It's good to be thankful for the small positives along the journey...

lulahbelle · 12/04/2017 19:06

Thanks ladies - it's so nice having this thread to talk about stuff witb people who get it! Smile

Congrats on the scan bee - those measurements sound great!

It's definitely a relief to have an answer Ozzy - just trying to reassure DH who's now feeling that it's his "fault" which is ridiculous but I think maybe guys struggle more if it's an issue at their end as they see it as them not being "masculine" enough?!

Ozzyboo · 12/04/2017 20:25

Ahhh poor DH! I can imagine his guilt, I feel it constantly with our situation! And I know if it was the other way round my OH would take it really badly x

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 10:41

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well and coping! I've been reading this thread from the beginning but this is my first thread. My EC was on Saturday 1st April. I wondered if anyone else was having PGS as part of their IVF?

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 10:42

Sorry I mean this is my first post! Smile

bjonesreborn · 13/04/2017 13:46

Well done bee when is your next scan?
lulah hope your news was good today
Welcome laurel I haven't had PGS. Forgive my ignorance but does that mean you haven't had ET yet then?
Hope everyone else is ok

BeePositive · 13/04/2017 14:12

Thanks bjones. Hope you're continuing to keep positive, and no more tears? Nice long weekend to look forward to.

I've got my ET planned for next week, all going well. I hope my frostie warms up ok, and is fine to transfer. I only have 2 on ice, so if the one doesn't defrost well, they will try the other.

Welcome laurelstar - I'm also not so clued up on PGS. I did not have this for my previous or current cycle. Do you have an ET date planned in?

What news today lulah?

Hobbes39 · 13/04/2017 15:35

Hi all!
Sorry if I miss folks out, on my phone and trying to get packed for weekend as we are off to relatives for Easter...
Ozzy - those numbers sound great for a first scan, well done! I think for your stage they are looking for them to be around 10ish, so perfect!
Lulah - well done on egg collection, 8 is good and while I can imagine your OH is feeling a bit gutted, it is good they found out and can do something about it, so hopefully puts you in a good position now! Good luck for fertilisation x
Laurel - hi - I'm afraid i know nowt about PGS, hope someone else has more of an idea! When do you have ET?
AFM I'm now trying to decide if it would be a stupid idea to test tomorrow morning... I will only be 8dp3dt tomorrow, and I know it might be way too early, but part of the reason I want to test is that my period started on day 12 last time (so equivalent to 9dpt) so I kind of want to test before then in case it's all over anyway by then..? But am I being insane? Think I need someone to talk me down..!! X

BeePositive · 13/04/2017 16:05

Don't do it hobbes. As tempting as it is, it's too early. It won't give true reading & u will have wasted a stick & still be left wondering anyway?! Keep strong & hopefully the excitement of Easter weekend away will keep u distracted till true test date. Easier said than done!

bjonesreborn · 13/04/2017 16:16

No hobbes step away from the sticks!! As bee says a weekend of distractions is just the ticket and Tuesday will be here before you know it. Stay strong xx

Hobbes39 · 13/04/2017 16:17

I know it's stupid, I guess it's just if what happened last time happens again, (chemical) I just madly want to have a day of feeing happy before I get miserable...Confused 🙈

OP posts:
lulahbelle · 13/04/2017 16:33

Hi laurel haven't had PGS either I'm afraid. Does it delay your ET?

Don't do it Hobbes! Go away and have a relaxed weekend and try to forget about testing as much as you can (which is probably not at all but you know what I mean!) It must be so difficult not to worry that history will repeat itself but there's no reason why it would - will be keeping my fingers crossed for you whether you go for tomorrow or wait until Tuesday.

Clinic called to say that all 9 of our eggs fertilised so am over the moon with that news. They definitely told us yesterday that they got 8 eggs though so not sure where the extra one has come from Confused

Also Ozzy, I just wanted to say that you shouldn't feel guilty - its never anyone's fault that a couple has difficulties ttc and I'm sure your OH would say the same! x

bjonesreborn · 13/04/2017 16:45

Yeay lulah fantastic news. Well done!! When is ET?

geeup · 13/04/2017 16:47

Wow lulah that's great all 9 fertilised.
Hobbes - everyone is right you should step away from the sticks but thought I'd be honest and say I would test. I started bleeding at only 6dp5dt but tested anyway as I'd want to know if I'd had a chemical (I hadn't) as the info could be helpful to the docs for next cycle. Personal choice though. I knew if it was negative and I hadn't bled I'd have assumed it was just too early and wouldn't have stressed anymore than just waiting.

Hobbes39 · 13/04/2017 17:59

Thanks everyone - I know you are all right - I guess I'm just feeling quite negative today and feels like it might be my hormones have put me on a downer, which I don't feel is a good sign... arg!
Lulah - that's brilliant re fertilisation! Amazing Smile. Fingers crossed for the next couple of stages for you! X

Ozzyboo · 13/04/2017 18:06

Welcome laurel and good luck on your journey! Sorry to say I don't know anything about PGS either..

Lulah that's great news!! You even managed to to gain an extra one lol?!

Hope I'm not too late Hobbes.. but put the sticks down and back away from the bathroom!! Don't give yourself a negative reading before the bank holiday weekend, you won't be able to get it off your mind!

This may be a silly question but I've been looking at dates.. my EC is scheduled for weds, then hoping I get 5 day embies they'll transfer on the Monday.. well my next period is due on the Saturday? Will it still come that Saturday? So I'll pretty much know in 5 days?

bjonesreborn · 13/04/2017 19:00

ozzy didn't want to read and run but I don't know the answer! I have ridiculously short cycles so I'm already way overdue. There's lots about ivf I really don't understand, this being my first time. I'm sure someone else will have the answer though.

Hobbes39 · 13/04/2017 19:15

Ozzy - I think it depends on your cycle. My understanding is that ivf basically overrides everything, so you can ignore when you are usually due.. however saying that, I suspect that if you have a short cycle (like me) then I think that make effect things. If you take EC as when you 'ovulate' and if you know how long your luteal phase is normally, then my very unscientific poll of people I know who have done IVF then if it's not worked you may get your period at the same days past ovulation as usual - I certainly did (12dpo) last time and 3 people I know irl did too.. but like I said, that's not scientific! Hopefully the evil witch won't visit at all for at least the next 9 months tho..! X
