IVF Cycle buddies March/April

I know we are only partway through February, but I'm down to start our 2nd round of IVF once my period starts at the end of this month, so thought I'd start a cycle buddies thread now as I gear up..!
Our history is that we have a 3.5yo DS, naturally conceived, but have been trying for a sibling for 2 years now... we had an ectopic pregnancy just over a year ago, but after that nothing... so as I'll be 40 next month, we decided there wasn't time to waste anymore and had all the tests last year but we are 'unexplained'... so we had a cycle of IVF in November/December but sadly was unsuccessful as ended in a chemical pregnancy. So here we go again - fingers crossed it's 2nd time lucky...! If anyone else is starting soon then would be great to have the support! Xx

Bjones good luck hope you get great news tomo:)

Hobbes39 · 03/04/2017 15:15

Hi everyone - that's brilliant news Hope & Dippy - sounds like you have loads of follicles coming along!

Bjones - glad your EC went well - fingers crossed they are all good ones!

AFM - v groggy still, doc said I reacted strongly to the sedative... happened last time too, just sooo knocked out - which is a good thing in a way, but takes longer to come round... was v emotional beforehand, but v happy they got 7 eggs from me today, 2 more than I had dared to hope Smile. I'm pretty sure that a couple are unlikely to be mature, but am happy anyway. Fingers crossed for tomorrow....
Good luck to everyone else - brain is mush so can't remember where everyone is! Xx

Yes well done jones. You've heard it before but it's quality over quantity. Good luck on the morning. I'll also be getting a call to say if I have a couple more to freeze which were a bit behind.

take care of yourselves hobbes and bjones!

Good luck everyone else.
Is it weird that I am experiencing similarities to the symptoms I had with my first pregnancy - mild sickness feeling and wanting to drink sweet fizzy drinks? Obv I know I'm not pg as have been bleeding for 3 days but I'm surprised if there's enough hcg or whatever in my system now to make me feel like that. Or perhaps it's just the same as being a bit wiped out.

Anyone know what's involved with a frozen embryo transfer? I'm desperate to start planning but my clinic aren't telling me anything until my appointment which is a week away.
Still got at least another day of taking the sodding pessaries before I can confirm negative test and stop!

SilverLinings2014 · 04/04/2017 08:51

Hi blackcherries, hope you're okay. I think the pesseries could be giving you those feelings too as you've so much progesterone in your system.

FET protocol varies depending on whether it's natural or medicated. Medicated is most common, which I'm doing now. My protocol has been: down regging for a few weeks (starts either day 2 or 21 depending on cycle lengt/ regularity), base line scan to confirm ovaries are quiet, add in progynova for a week, another scan to check lining good. If all okay get booked in for transfer (timing of this depends on stage embie was frozen at), stop DR, continue progynova and start pessaries.

Hope you get good news today bjones and Hobbes.

Afm, I've got my scan tomorrow afternoon and if all well will be booked in for ET next week xx

Wanda354 · 04/04/2017 09:21

How long did you have to wait between last cycle and this FET cycle, silverlinings? If this cycle doesn't work, I am going to want to do FET cycle as soon as possible with our one frostie but not sure if they make you wait a certain number of natural cycles before trying again? Also, will they do an FET cycle with only one frostie to work with, or is there too great a risk of it not surviving the thaw? The embryologist described the one we froze as of average quality.

blackcherries, you might feel nauseous because of the progesterone pessaries. I am feeling mildly nauseous too the last few days, and more achey boobs than before. Not sure if the side effects of the progesterone are cumulative as time goes on.

Thanks BiggerBoatNeeded, that is reassuring. The whole fresh cycle seems to have taken so long and taken more out of us than we'd anticipated. We would go again if need be but would be amazing if an FET cycle could work if this one doesn't.

Hobbes39 · 04/04/2017 11:32

Hi all, hope everyone is good today? Am thinking lucky thoughts for us all.
I just made my call to the hospital and can't quite believe it - we've got 5 embryos!! Which means we will be going to day 3 or even maybe 5 (but I'm not daring to think about that!) I'm delighted as we only had 2 last time and therefore only got to day 2..! I am trying not to get my hopes up too much as I know it could all go horribly wrong in the next few days, but I never thought we would get 5, I was just desperately hoping to get at least 2! I am to call on Thursday morning to find out how we are doing... so I'm crossing everything until then!
Good luck to everyone else. I hope that you had a good report this morning to bjones, thinking of you xx

Brilliant news, congratulations Hobbes! We had 6 embryos and our clinic said the day after EC that that automatically meant a 5 day transfer so hopefully will for you too. You must be so pleased.

geeup · 04/04/2017 11:40

Fab news Hobbes. That's an amazing result - snap! We had 5 too. Fingers crossed for the next 24 hours. Keep your mind busy!

Hobbes39 · 04/04/2017 11:51

Thanks Geeup - I can't even let myself think of Day 5 as I'm just delighted with where we are so far! Did you hear about your other possible Frosties? X

bjonesreborn · 04/04/2017 11:56

Amazing news hobbes well done you.
We got 3 which I am over the moon with, not bad out of 4. Been crying my eyes out since the phone call. Don't think I realised what an emotional rollercoaster this journey was when I started it.
Clinic will call us again on Thursday but still hoping for sat transfer.
Hope everyone else ok

Hobbes39 · 04/04/2017 12:02

Bjones - that is fabulous news! Yeay! Will keep everything crossed for us both! Xx

lulahbelle · 04/04/2017 12:09

Hi all, so much going on since I last looked at the thread!

kmmr - hope you're doing ok and good luck for tomorrow if you do decide to test.
bjones and Hobbes - congratulations on getting so many embryos. Such great news and fingers crossed for some top quality 5 day blastocysts!
jody - hope you're doing ok and work's still being a good distraction.
Hope - so pleased things developed well over the weekend - good luck for EC tomorrow!
Ozzy - good luck for your scan tomorrow too!
Wanda - hope you're ok and good luck if you do decide to test before Friday.
Dippy - your scan results sound good. Had my first scan today and they wouldn't tell me anything other than that things were developing as they should be but the numbers I heard them noting down didn't sound anything like as far developed as yours - other than one random 14, the biggest were 8s and 9s Confused
geeup - congrats on the ET and hope the embie is snuggling in nicely!
blackcherries - hope you're doing ok and that you can move on to a FET as soon as possible.
silver - good luck for the scan tomorrow.

geeup · 04/04/2017 13:08

Well done bjones that's fantastic news!! Well done you.
Hobbes - unfortunately the other 2 didn't make it so will just be grateful for the one on board and one in the freezer.
Am currently at home trying to watch comedy to tickle the embie!

SilverLinings2014 · 04/04/2017 16:40

Great news hobbes and bjones, fingers crossed for some great blasts.

I can't answer your question wanda as this is my first FET. Fresh cycle was March 2014 and got very lucky with a BFP. Trying not to get my hope is this time as don't thibk well be so lucky again. Very fortunate to have 3 in the freezer so will cycle again as soon as I can if unsuccessful.

Good luck to everyone with EC coming up and everyone testing soon x

Hobbes39 · 04/04/2017 17:11

Geeup - sorry your other 2 didn't make it, but you are right, that's still brilliant to have one on board and one in the freezer Smile.
Wanda - how you doing? Hope you are holding up ok?
Hope - good luck for your EC tomorrow!
Sorry to anyone else I've missed - it's hard to keep track... but hope you are all doing ok xx

Work has been a good distraction but I'm in tears on train home again the minute I start thinking about it. I have bad cramp and more than spotting today but it's brown not red so might still be OK. Not getting my hopes up though. I think cos they put 2 embryos back in I had convinced myself I'd get at least one work. Totally distraught. Hope everyone else is doing OK xxxx
