Hi all, can I join please? I'm about to start our cycle, just had our bloods done for HIV etc and am waiting for the call from the pharmacy (I think) about the meds, haven't heard anything since telling the clinic that I started my period!

Waitingimpatient · 11/10/2015 22:17

Hello Elektra

What sort of cycle are you doing ? I did a mild IVF back in April and just had a FET.

bananafish81 · 11/10/2015 22:47

Congrats osiris and yay for finally being PUPO waiting!

Ladies, if you were in my situation, of having the option of either a FET (with only 6 eggs - not embryos - on ice) in Nov, or waiting till the new year and starting a fresh stims cycle, and batching together both lots of eggs to have more embryos to work with, what would you do?

The impatient part of me just wants to go ahead with a FET in Nov: although it's realistically not likely to work first time, there is always the possibility one of those 6 eggs might turn into a baby, and we'd be doing a stims cycle before knowing if we needed to do one.

On the other hand, projecting massively, if we did hit the jackpot with this FET, then maybe I'd always regret not doing another stims cycle in case we would have got something for the freezer for the future. As in 2 years time, I could be in menopause - so it's a case of trying to make hay before the sun sets.

I don't know!!! Part of me just wants to get this first cycle done and dusted so we can get the BFN over and done with before Xmas, and go into the new year ready to start over again. Although the other part of me thinks maybe just maybe I could get the best Xmas present ever!

Will see what our consultant recommends when we see him, but would love to get any advice / thoughts from you lovely ladies...

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 07:58

Good luck today miracles !! Hope it all goes well x

banana I can't give you a definite answer but can tell you what happened to me and what I was told
My first cycle was a mild IVF and even on low doses of drugs (112.5 of gonal f) I was over stimulating with huge amount of follicles discomfort and bloating and high e2 levels
I was told I couldn't have a fresh transfer and I was devastated as had read about higher success rates and felt like I had no chance if I couldn't do a fresh transfer

My doctor told me that although fresh does have slightly higher success rates that their FET rates were only a fraction behind and they think that this is due to women having less medication in their system as sometimes the stimms can have an adverse effect in those sensitive to them ie like me but then equally if you didn't have a reaction and didn't overstimulate then fresh is probably better

It's hard to make a decision. Keep thinking of it in my head as if we try enough times surely we will get a bfp one day ?! But like wanting a number on a dice you just have to keep throwing it and at some point the number will come up be it after 1 throw or 20!

That probably hasn't helped much as I can only give you my experience. I will probably never have a fresh transfer but hopefully my FET will work!

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 08:00

Also, i have no idea of success rate with frozen eggs rather than embryos but would hazard a guess that once thawed the test would then be fertilisation and development which would take a day or so then you would know the likely quality ? I will have to do some reading up and see what I can find out for you

MiraclesDoHappen82 · 12/10/2015 08:25

Thank you waiting. I'm so excited but nervous as well. The last time we heard from the clinic was the day after EC when they said 5 had fertilised, haven't heard a thing since so don't know how those 5 embryos are now which makes me very anxious. All I can do and have being doing is hope.

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 08:33

They would have called if there was a problem. My clinic said that if there was a problem they would call me beforehand so imagine my shock when their number flashed up Saturday morning! They just wanted to change my appt time but I was shaking as thought it was bad news!

You have a great chance with day 5 embryos they have the most potential for implantation I've read ! Are you having 1 or 2 transferred?

lildottie · 12/10/2015 08:43

banana I had 12 eggs, and after 2 embryo transfer nothing left to freeze. I assume as eggs have been frozen any embryos from them couldn't be refrozen (or is human tiisue different to your riast chicken?!) So if it were me, knowing what I know now, I'd probably get the next cycle done asap and do fresh cycle in new year if you need to. You never know you might end up with twins!

MiraclesDoHappen82 · 12/10/2015 08:56

I don't know how many having transferred as don't know the quality of the embryos. Me and dh have both said that we will go on the advise of the embryologist, which ever they think is best 1 or 2.

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 09:34

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes brilliantly for you! Can't wait to hear back from you later . Sending lots of positivity your way

MiraclesDoHappen82 · 12/10/2015 10:02

Thanks so much waiting Smile

Shellster52 · 12/10/2015 10:05

Miracles, I would assume that no news is good news. The clinic would only need to call if there was only 1-2 embryos left and they wanted to do an earlier transfer. But I know how anxious the wait is!

Shellster52 · 12/10/2015 10:07

lil, 3rd Nov must seem a long time away. Are you finding yourself being low key and not allowing yourself to get excited after your first experience, or are you routinely peeing on sticks to make sure they get darker?

bananafish81 · 12/10/2015 10:14

Yay miracles no news is good news, your embies are obv going for great guns. So excited for you!

Thanks lildottie and waiting. Was thinking that with only 6 eggs it feels like a big risk to go ahead with a FET, given we don't know likely fertilisation rate, and if my high FSH means low egg quality as well as quantity. Wondered if another fresh cycle might give us more to work with so we'd have a better chance of reaching transfer full stop - ie would 2 stims cycles put us in the position we might be in if I didn't have such diminished reserves, given the likely drop-off. Absolutely wouldn't even dare hope for getting anything for the freezer, but wondered if being able to go to blast would give us a better shot.

waiting thanks so much for the advice about FET vs fresh. Unfortunately it's not a case of me being hyperstimulated given my peri menopausal bloods, but as I have such consistently poor lining, that any fresh cycles are likely to have to be freeze all, so that we can build up my lining with a medicated FET. I'm mentally assuming there's no way the first cycle could work, hence stupidly projecting to the next cycle!

lildottie good question about refreezing - that's one of my questions! (Although obv desperately unlikely that'll ever be a consideration - not likely to end up with anything to freeze from a crop of 6!). A girl I know on another forum had to do a frozen egg cycle: two of those eggs are now twins in her tummy, and two more are embryos in the freezer! So apparently not always like defrosted chicken Grin However she got 12 eggs and must have super duper quality!!

Thanks for your advice. I obv desperately want to be PUPO - and at least if I have terrible fertilisation we'll know sooner rather than later. Will stop gaming out a million scenarios and see what the consultant recommends. Really appreciate your thoughts ladies, it's much appreciated xxx

Elektra83 · 12/10/2015 10:42

Hi waitingimpatient we are doing our NHS funded ICSI cycle, I'm on long protocol and should be taking synarel for down regging next week...

lildottie · 12/10/2015 11:49

banana don't assume more eggs = better quality. My first cycle I got 11 eggs, 7 fertilised. On day 2 there were only 2 left, both transferred. I GOP a bfp and mc a few days later. I believe bad egg quality hada role to play.

This time 12 eggs, 5 fertilised, 2 transferred and the remaining 3 didn't make it to blast.

Less eggs can mean better quality. And afirst cycle won't always be a practice run. I did get pg my first cycle despite my diminished embryo numbers, and again this time.

miracle be prepared for them to tell you to choose. Hfea guidelines are >5 good quality embryos only put one back and a fet should be fundedif that fails. If 5 orless they say its OK to put 2 back, but it will be your choice. We chose 2 each time as figured 2 better than none as I'm only 30 and reasonably healthy.

shell managing to control the poas addiction! Did one Thursday (otd) then nothing until this morning. Planning to do a digi next week.

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 13:22

I also got a lot of eggs (16) but only three made it to freezing and I also worry about egg quality as stimms made me feel very unwell. I really do believe it quality not quantity that's important

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 13:23

I'm not that familiar with long protocol cycles elektra as I only did short myself. How long do you have to down reg for ?

Elektra83 · 12/10/2015 13:37

IIRC, I down reg for 2-3 weeks and then there's some scanning whilst the stimms happen, I'm just concerned that I haven't had anything through from the clinic...

lildottie · 12/10/2015 14:03

elektra don't sut wondering, call the clinic and ask.

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 14:41

Yes definitely call them and find out everything you need to

bessie84 · 12/10/2015 14:45

hi girls, can any of you experts give me some advice.

doing ivf. i have pcos. doing SP.

after 7 days stimming, first scan on friday lots of little follies (pcos?) 1 at 6mm, 1 at 7mm. (was doing 50 gonal-f)

todays scan (day 10 of stimms) 2 follies. one at 7mm, 1 at 8mm. lots of small (again standard pcos i guess) (was upped to 100 gonal-f)

so in 3 days - theyve grown a pathetic 1mm !!! WTAF!!!!

now hes upped it to 150.... what are the chances of something happening when i go back wednesday? im just a mess.if from 50 to 100 theyve only grown 1mm, whats an extra 50 going to do!

cant stop the tears. says if nothings changed by wednesday, to think about converting to IUI. and stART ivf again later. wednesday will be day 12 of stimms. and friday will be the deciding day weather we cancel or convert.

really upset. oh and another thing, on friday lining was 7.5mm - today, its still 7.5mm.

thing is, we've done iui before and it didnt bloody work.

i dont get it cos when we did iui, we went so careful with gonal cos i was over stimming, now im doing ivf... no bloody follicles!

sorry for waffle, really heartbroken x

purplemeggie · 12/10/2015 14:55

Will respond properly to everyone later but just wanted to say to Bessie drink loads of water. My clinic said at least 2 litres per day as this swells the follicles but also improves quality as they replenish their liquid content more regularly. Also I was advised to drink a litre of milk on top of thewater this is thought to help with quality. Don't despair x

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 15:13

I have pcos and needed 14 days of gonal f at a dose of 112.5 I had many many follicles of varying sizes
I also felt they started my cetrotide a day or two early but I think a lot of the time the first cycle is a trial

I'd second what purple advised lots of fluid and also lots of protein, I drank milk and got the Arla protein yogurts and I ate a lot of chicken, avocado, eggs and nuts.i also drank coconut water (it was horrid but I read somewhere it helped!)

bessie84 · 12/10/2015 16:19

purple im pants with water, but sat drinking as i type. Thank you. (cant stop sobbing) xxx

waiting thank you. already doing the protein thing, will up the water and milk.

grow follies, grow.

xx
