Is anyone due to start IUI??

There are plenty of IVF threads but it seems there is little talk of IUI. I'm starting a medicated cycle when my next af arrives mid January-ish. Well hopefully as it depends on dh's sperm! He was poorly and on meds for a month and the doc needs to check it hasn't affected his little fellas.

A bit about me... I'm 34 and dh is 36. We started ttc Dec 2012 when I had my implant out. We began having tests when nothing had happened after 15months. We have been deemed 'normal' so unexplained infertility. Referred to fertility clinic in Sept 2014 and offered 3 rounds of IUI on the NHS.

Hope to make some cycle buddies :-)

Oh no Bessie, I'm really sorry to hear that. I wish there was something I can say, the whole infertility thing just sucks!

Your obviously a strong confident woman though, and these disappointments won't get the better of you. Sending you a hug x

Freshbreadandfaith · 18/04/2015 09:15

I checked in to see what your result would be bessie and I'm so sorry to read that :( there is nothing I can say that will make you feel better or change the situation but know that we are all here for you if you need to vent or cry or just talk xx

Thanks girls, just awaiting AF now. Not sure how long it takes after stopping cyclogest. Just rang our consultant and cried buckets on phone, tears just won't stop. So, anyway, we've decided we're off on icsi train. For what its cost so far, we couldve nearly paid for ivf/icsi. So that's next for us. Mortified.

Even more mortified when I see that the druggie tramp neighbours are on their 2nd pregnancy in the last year and the 15 year old girl over road is same. (May I add, we soooo need to move off this street lol) And we'd do anything to just have our 1. Trying our best for past 4 years of no drinking, (ya know what I mean) n no smoking, diet, vitamins, ov sticks, symptom spotting and all the rest. Got Dh Samples up with all hard work. I started ov'ing again after losing weight, surely something would happen. But just hasn't. Sorry for the emotional rant/outburst/teary, broken waffle.

Good luck to all. Thank u for all been to lovely, this thread rules. Xxx

Absolutely gutted for you Bessie, it hurts even harder when so much more effort goes into a cycle. AF differed for me with each IUI which just adds to the disappointment. Look after yourself and may bump into you on the IVF/ICSI threads x ps. when I see others with their multitude of babies, I secretly think to myself that ours will be loads cuter which makes me smile when I go past them!!!! (Awful I know but got to have something to hold on to).

Readyforthefuture · 20/04/2015 11:07

Bessie, you're welcome to rant away whenever you want. Nothing teaches you that life isn't fair quite like ttc. This whole journey your going through is getting you ready to be the most amazing parents, your neighbours etc won't have a patch on you, or realise what they have till it's too late.

I've just got back from my scan this morning, first one since I started the medication. So far, so good. Lots of very little follies, but 2 nice size 9's coming along. Seems that the reduced medication is working for me so far. It's very early days, but feel a bit relieved after how quickly I over reacted last time.

Readyforthefuture · 20/04/2015 19:21

Arghhhh! Nothing is simple.

Following what I thought was a pretty positive scan this morning, I went back this afternoon for a consultant appointment. We are applying for nhs funding for ivf in the background, which all went very well actually. We qualify, got the forms, and bonus, we're entitled to an extra frozen cycle as well. But here's the catch...

If I get pregnant and miscarry naturally or through iui, I lose all the funding. So do I cancel the cycle???

Thoughts?

Freshbreadandfaith · 20/04/2015 19:25

You ladies are such an inspiration to me and I think you are so strong and brave xxx

victoria401 · 20/04/2015 21:26

So sorry for the BFN bessie, good luck for ivf though, you WILL get your baby!

ready I know its hard to think you'll lose your ivf shot if iui works and you lose it. But you can't think like that. I hope you have decided to continue with this iui cycle. Positive thoughts x

Have you got an ivf start date non?

bessie84 · 21/04/2015 10:08

Thanks again girls, AF arrived this morning. Boooooooo!!!!!

OMG ready that's harsh, like Victoria said, you can't think like that. My first baby was stillborn at 42 weeks 11 years ago. I lost all funding from then on. Id never imagine it can happen, but it does, so i see both sides. NHS has their priorities wrong. What a bloody awful thing to even put you thru. As If this lark isn't hard enough. I agree with Victoria.... You can't think like that, the think is, people always think/say "oh well, you can always do ivf" like a) its an easy solution and b) like its a god given thing it'll work!!! I'd continue with iui and natual. I can't begin to imagine what IVF is going to be like. But on the other hand, I see your point. What choice have u made? Hope your OK x

Thanks non - do u have a start date yet? I'm coming over to the ICSI threads to get to know perps. Get a feel of what happens. :( HUGS xxxx

Xxxxx

victoria401 · 21/04/2015 10:33

I have obviously lost funding now too as we've got preg naturally. If we lose this we're on our own. But yes ivf is not a guarantee to success.

Nonconformist34 · 21/04/2015 19:33

Hi all, I sent our IVF referral off last week so hope to hear in the next few weeks fingers crossed. I think they'll send out an initial consultation appointment then we go from there. Hopefully starting in the next few cycles. I do feel more prepared having done iui cycles and we're both in a good place emotionally and physically so bring it on!!!
I've not read any paperwork about the ivf funding being cancelled if we conceived naturally in the meantime or via iui but would still go ahead with iui as it's less invasive and there's always that chance it could work!

Readyforthefuture · 21/04/2015 20:20

I'm finding this so hard, have cried a lot. I make a million rational decisions a day in business, but this is totally different. It feels like a test of faith, in myself, my future....

I've kept up with the drugs, and gave a scan booked for the morning, I have until trigger to make a decision. There are a couple of big questions in my head

Could I handle it if I miscarried and lost the 2 cycles (and therefore any more treatment for the rest of the year)?

Is the stress and fear of miscarriage going to haunt me through this cycle and ruin a bfp if I got it?

If I hadn't started iui already would I still do it knowing what was at stake?

It's tough, ivf at my age at my clinic is twice as likely to succeed as iui, we've been playing the long game to ensure we gave ourselves the best odds, but there is a small chance we could blow it in the last couple of months.

Arghhhhhh!

Freshbreadandfaith · 22/04/2015 07:06

I'm such a newbie on this thread. I'm having my first iui procedure this afternoon @ 5:15! I don't know about mm measurements etc all I know is following clomid there was no response in the right ovary and there is one large egg in the left ovary. I might ovulate tomorrow or Friday at latest, opk this week so far have been negative.i haven't had the trigger injection but specialist scanned me Monday and felt that today was the right day to do the iui... I assume that the sperm will just swim around in the tubes for a day or so if the egg doesn't release today....

chopsface · 22/04/2015 07:39

ready having ivf will not make a healthier or stickier baby than with iui or natural conception. Think about that when making your decision. Don't regret not using any funded iui cycles you have at a later date.

fresh I've only learnt about medicated cycles and getting a trigger injection for the egg to release and inseminated so many hours later. I thought they would go from a pos opk though. Have you had any lines at all on your opk? I guess they are going from the size of your follicle and it looks fit to burst? Good luck x

Freshbreadandfaith · 22/04/2015 10:57

I think they are going by the size and my last cycle was 26 days and the one before was 30 days so today is day 13 so it's a calculated guess, maybe my opk will be positive today or tomorrow. As long as the sperm last in the area for three days then hopefully that will help, we can have sex too but that hasn't worked so far so we shall see! I feel like a hen sitting on this one egg!!

chopsface · 22/04/2015 12:53

Does your dh have to abstain for so many days beforehand fresh? non told me that she was told when they had to dtd during her iui cycle. Have you done the same?

Freshbreadandfaith · 22/04/2015 16:09

Yes he was told to abstain from Monday til today, I have a faint positive (just slightly fainter than test line) today so will probably ov in next 36 hours? Having iui done in an hour so hopefully spermies stay alive and strong til ov

Freshbreadandfaith · 22/04/2015 19:41

Had my first iui procedure this afternoon. it wasn't as straightforward and as pain free as it should have been (typical for me!) the specialist struggled to get to my cervix so there was alot of pushing open and digging around, I just lay there with my hands over my face just concentrating on breathing in and out and trying not to clench! Took a bit longer and I was bleeding after..... Feel crampy and bloated now but still optimistic that we will have a child one way or another!

Readyforthefuture · 24/04/2015 07:13

Hi everyone, thanks for your thoughts and advice. This week has been the most awful roller coaster, lack of sleep, tears...

We've spent hours debating the benefits of each, and eventually decided that we would stop the IUI and go to IVF. However, amazingly I had a call from the nurse at the clinic that I saw on Wednesday (who I'd told all about the problem), she brought it up at the clinic management meeting. They discussed and eventually agreed that if I miscarry through IUI I will still get the ivf.

I had only just stopped taking my injections, so took it 8 hours late and am back in to scan this morning. I hope all the stress and trauma hasn't hurt our chances.

Fresh - excited for you, I really hope this works for you.

Freshbreadandfaith · 24/04/2015 07:46

Thankyou ready, wishing you the very best too, pleased the clinic changed their policy for you

Readyforthefuture · 24/04/2015 11:09

Amazing news. Scan went well, but unbelievably I'm borderline over responding again even with the reduced meds (damn super ovaries). After a lot of discussion with the consultants, they've decided to urgently trigger me and do the insemination tomorrow. So as fast as my wheels could carry me I did the dash back to the house to take the ovitrelle.

Fingers crossed!

victoria401 · 24/04/2015 12:37

Good luck ready glad they changedthe rules and yyou're still going ahead with the iui! I shall be lurking on your 2ww and yours fresh!

Freshbreadandfaith · 24/04/2015 16:54

Eeeeeee! Trying to be chilled and not get my hopes up.... But holding my breath all the same.. Good luck ready x

Readyforthefuture · 25/04/2015 13:19

Very excited now, IUI went off without a hitch this morning. I have signed many pieces of paper saying I understand I'm at high risk of twins as well ( I could only hope to be so lucky that one makes it). 2ww starting now!

Fresh - when is your test date?

Freshbreadandfaith · 25/04/2015 17:28

AF due approx 7th may. Haven't got a test date, will just wait for af. I find negative pregnancy tests even more upsetting than AF arriving. You?
