Is anyone due to start IUI??

There are plenty of IVF threads but it seems there is little talk of IUI. I'm starting a medicated cycle when my next af arrives mid January-ish. Well hopefully as it depends on dh's sperm! He was poorly and on meds for a month and the doc needs to check it hasn't affected his little fellas.

A bit about me... I'm 34 and dh is 36. We started ttc Dec 2012 when I had my implant out. We began having tests when nothing had happened after 15months. We have been deemed 'normal' so unexplained infertility. Referred to fertility clinic in Sept 2014 and offered 3 rounds of IUI on the NHS.

Hope to make some cycle buddies :-)

He's just dropped off. At least I got a lift to work out of it as I work at the hospital! He was making a big deal about it as usual this morning but I just ignored him. Drummed it into his head that he needed to say we needed results by the weekend. I'm 10dpo already, eeek!

How did your needle session go? Hopefully bettter than mine!

Fingers crossed then :-)

Needle session was good, shame you can't actually practice on yourself. I think once you've done it a few times it'll be easy it's just getting started. I have a ton of info, cd's on how to use the pens, leaflets on the standard needles and even an app! Just shout if you think it's useful to you as well and I'll email across.

Hi VIctoria. I have a complicated medical history resulting in me having amennorrhoea so no periods and no hormones.

victoria401 · 15/01/2015 12:40

Been trying to call the clinic all lunch break to see how the results are getting along. Constantly engaged! Argh!

oooh let us know how results are victoria.

Momunnymoproblems · 15/01/2015 14:25

Hello!

Can I join?
Starting stimulated IUI when I next get AF which should be first week of February.

I'm 31 DH is 33 and we have been ttc for 19 months for DC1. We have had all the tests and everything has come back within acceptable ranges so we are 'unexplained'. However I have started to have short cycles since July 14 which they can't find a reason for so Consultant thinks a luteal phase defect but no diagnosis.

Drugs are ordered and I've had my injection lesson.

Actually not feeling nervous at the minute but maybe I'm a bit in denial about it all?

victoria401 · 15/01/2015 15:34

Welcome to the group mo, may o call you mo? Lol

Finally got through to clinic, said results are back and someone on the clinical team would call me back. That was 2 HOURS AGO! so impatient

welcome mo

victoria VERY FRUSTRATING

victoria401 · 15/01/2015 16:38

I take it they are not calling as its nearly home time :-( will have to call them again tomorrow. Don't want to seem like too much of a crazy obsessed lady!

Our consultant just phoned. Its bad news. His latest sample is only suitable for icsi now. I can't believe I'm dropping out of my own thread now.

I feel completely broken. The Dr called when we were in the car on the way back from the vets, where we had taken our pet for a 2nd emergency op in 2 days after she'd pulled her stitches out leaving a horrible gaping hole in her tummy. This is turning out to be a pretty shit day all in all.

Readyforthefuture · 15/01/2015 20:16

Oh Victoria, I'm so sorry it's bad news. It's a crappy situation, on top of pet dramas too. I know it's rubbish now, but I always tell myself that every closed door means your getting closer to the one that opens. Sending you positive thoughts now.

Also having a bit of a rubbishy day, af just turned up, I still secretly hope for a surprise bfp despite evidence to the contrary.

Take care of yourself while you get your head around this

bessie84 · 16/01/2015 12:57

aaaww victoria so so sorry hunny. it will take a while to sink in, take that time. i agree with ready, i closed door deffo means your closer to the one thats opening.

aawww ready sorry for af for you, have a large wine (or 4) and read up on whats to come.

take care girls. :-( feel sad now.

cd 7 for me, day 3 of gonal-f injections. so far so good. gonal-f does make me thirsty though and dry mouthed (and few spots) but no bad tempered behaviours like i had on clomid. (blimey, surprised OH is still here) x

Nonconformist34 · 16/01/2015 18:12

Vic So sorry to hear your news, can't begin to imagine how gutted you are. ICSI has a higher success rate than IUI and IVF so you might as well go in for the best treatment out there straight off. Keep us posted with how you're going on if you join another thread.

Welcome to Mo I too start my next round of IUI first week in Feb so we'll be cycle buddies. It's my second round so I know what too expect. It really isn't anything to worry about. The only thing I found frustrating is the inconvenience of having time off work to go to appointments.

Bessie Glad it's going well, keep us posted with how your follies are doing at your next scans.

victoria401 · 17/01/2015 11:16

I'll still be on the 10 months thread non. Pop in and see us sometime x

Hi ladies, can I join?
I'm 34, DH is 38. TTC for 13months - unexplained infertility. Had clomid days 2-6 this cycle and literally just got back from my first round of IUI so trying to feel positive. Theres lots of talk of injections on here but I haven't been told to that I was just given ovulation kit to test..supposed to be going to an insanity class tonight but I keep reading conflicting advice re to exercise or not to exercise?? It's pretty high impact and a sweaty class so don't want to jeopardise our chances and it's a good excuse to be lazy this week! Now it's the dreaded 2WW...??

bessie84 · 22/01/2015 19:49

welcome welshy sorry you find yourself here. id deffo avoid the insanity class hunny. good luck for the 2ww.

im cd 14 tomorrow, got a follie scan in morning, last one i had on weds i had about 16 follies, ranging 10-13mm each. so hoping only a few are taking lead cos i couldnt bear this cycle to be cancelled due to over stim!

hope all is ok, thread very quiet. x

Welshy80 · 22/01/2015 20:59

Thanks Bessie, I didn't go to insanity and did a light yoga session instead.
Will keep my fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow..how long is your cycle normally? I'm on cd 12, normally have 27 day cycle.
Good luck x

bessie84 · 22/01/2015 21:07

yeah i think yoga / light stuff is better. keep your mind busy in 2ww, it drives you crazy. good luck.

aahh thank you, bit scared to be honest, im normally fighting to get one egg, so overstim is a heartache too, knowing it could be cancelled, it would be such a waste. my cycle varies 28 days - 40 days, but im on gonal-f injections, so wont be more than 31-32 days. x

bessie84 · 23/01/2015 11:12

dont know weather to laugh or cry.
18 follies on left, 26 on right. and then few little ones. soooooooo, big chance its going to get cancelled this cycle BUT consultant said, to "coast" this weekend and have no gonal-f and see if the bigger ones grow and leave the others behind. 44 follies is alot, took ages, bit uncomfortable. back to scan on monday to confirm either way.
bit gutted but hey ho.

victoria401 · 23/01/2015 14:08

You must be doing a 'natural' iui cycle welshy. My clinic doesn't even offer a natural one. We have to go through the injections to grow a single (or 2 max) follicles with similar lower dose drugs to when IVF is done and then have a trigger drug to release that egg (or 2) before insemination is done. I don't know if there is any difference in the success rates of natural vs medicated.

Bessie why have you grown so many follies?! Fingers crossed things go well for you after your last round :-(

Update from me... Decided to wait a few more months to see if we can improve dh's spermies. He has another sa booked for March 16th and if his morphology has improved we can start iui the next cycle. I don't feel the need to plough onto IVF just yet. The doctor said I have good AMH for my age so I have plenty of time (although rapidly approaching 35!). I'd rather have the 3 nhs iui chances, which I would lose if we had the one ivf. 4 chances are better than 1!

OP posts:
bessie84 · 23/01/2015 16:51

aaahh victoria, im so glad you have decided to go for the iui, you can improve spermies victoria - we got dh's count and morphology up with vitamins (pregnacare his n hers conception) no hot baths, reduced alcohol and he smoked at the time of the first sample, he hasnt touched one since.

i also dont feel the need to rush to ivf, if any iuis dont work, we'll try on our own for a while again before going down that route. good luck for march. i think a lot of people do rush, you do have time on your side esp as you have good AMH too.

ps: grown so many follicles as last cycle they started off slow so they upped my dose this cycle.

Welshy80 · 23/01/2015 17:20

I was told natural iui meant no meds. I took clomid days 2-6 which made me produce 2 large follicles and had iui on the day my OPK showed a positive..I've been told we're only entitled to 2 cycles of iui and one ivf but we've agreed we'd also not rush into ivf if the iui aren't successful. What's AMH, tried to work it out but couldn't think!?

Welshy80 · 23/01/2015 22:02

Just googled it, anti mullerian hormone. Did you have to pay to get that tested?

victoria401 · 23/01/2015 22:14

My clinic tested me, to see how many child bearing years I have left! Lol. I thought it was pretty standard. Is 80 your birth year? If it is you're same age as me. Thought they would test you being so old ;-) maybe they did and didn't think to tell you coz it was fine?

OP posts:
bessie84 · 26/01/2015 10:20

this cycle has been cancelled. wont be going to insemination stage. feeling sad. my 44 follies from fridays scan have reduced, but not by enough. i have 1 17mm on left (amongst small ones) and approx 18 on my right, all 18,19,20mm

start again in a few weeks. x good luck to rest of you girls x
