Is anyone due to start IUI??

There are plenty of IVF threads but it seems there is little talk of IUI. I'm starting a medicated cycle when my next af arrives mid January-ish. Well hopefully as it depends on dh's sperm! He was poorly and on meds for a month and the doc needs to check it hasn't affected his little fellas.

A bit about me... I'm 34 and dh is 36. We started ttc Dec 2012 when I had my implant out. We began having tests when nothing had happened after 15months. We have been deemed 'normal' so unexplained infertility. Referred to fertility clinic in Sept 2014 and offered 3 rounds of IUI on the NHS.

Hope to make some cycle buddies :-)

Hello all.

I am going to start IUI treatment soon. I am 26 and a single parent of a 3 year old daughter already. I am extremely excited about the process, however I have not told anyone that I am going through this treatment. I really want to share my experience and thought I would come here to share. So I was referred to KCH, London back in October 2014. It has literally felt like a lifetime to get to this point now. Had my scans and tests in January 2015. From there I had to wait for the next available counselling appointment and doctors appointment which was for April 2015 and that was scheduled in. The counselling appointment went ahead but the doctors appointment was cancelled by the unit and rescheduled for 5 weeks later. My name was passed to the sperm donor coordinator in the April and placed on the waiting list after the counselling appointment. My first contact with the sperm donor coordinator was on Tuesday this week. Even though I literally waited 12 weeks to be contacted (despite them initially saying there is only a 4 week wait) I feel so relieved just to be at this point now. I have selected the sperm donor to be used (from European Sperm Bank) to be used. I am just awaiting confirmation from KCH that they are happy that everything is in place for me to proceed with the order.

I got a quote (in Euros) from the ESB and I must have done my calculations wrong initially but looking at around £1800 to pay them. My calculations was way over the £2000 mark so quite pleased that I am not paying as much as what I had originally had thought. This fee also included the pregnancy slot in which will be fully refunded if I do not end up conceiving with the donor sperm being used.

So at this point I am just awaiting an email from KCH to give me the go ahead to place order with ESB and then from there I'll finalise the order. From there I hear it doesn't take that long for the sperm to arrive and then I'll go in and see nurse for the next step of the process. I'm hoping now that the first IUI attempt will take place next month - August. I don't have any fertility problems so I hope it works first time, but I know that this doesn't necessarily mean it will. I will be ordering three units so can start a second attempt if the first does not work.

My daughter keeps asking for a little sister or brother and I hope that soon I will be able to tell her that one is on the way.

I suspect if you do the fully stim'd IUI they will prescribe the progesterone as well.

I did have a trigger shot, but it was all a bit of a rush because at my last tracking scan they saw a third follicle growing very fast. So I triggered immediately and had the IUI 24 hours later (not ideal apparently but it was a Saturday). From what I understand the egg can live for 12 hours before it is either fertilised or dies. Sperm live for 72 hours, so I don't think the window is as precise.

Thankyou, no I didn't take progesterone in the 2ww no one suggested it...... Will ask about that, did you have a trigger shot too? I didn't this time but they said you ovulate 36 hours after trigger so I calculated that if they had me in to do the iui two days after the trigger in the pm and if e.g 36 hrs later was 6 or 7 am then do you miss the window? I don't really understand that bit.... Thanks ladies

Thanks, I feel very humbled, and to think I nearly cancelled this cycle! I keep testing to make sure it's not a mistake.

Fresh, I hope it works out, and soon x

This was my 2nd go at IUI (first was cancelled). My plan b for this cycle was ivf in July. I had avoided 'treatments for as long as I could. I do think my injection based IUI helped, it felt a bit more controlled (maybe that makes a psychological difference?). Injections really do become a piece of cake, I would look forward to doing mine because it felt like I was doing something.

Did you take progesterone in the two week wait? I'm convinced that must help as well, although it's icky.

I've been trying a lot complimentary therapys as well, which I think have helped but this really is a personal thing (reflexology and hypnotherapy were my favourites).

Thanks guys for the support. Desperately trying not to think about things before test date, not easy on a bank holiday!

Really have to stop looking up different IUI success rates on Google :-(

Wishing you all the very best ready, this whole process is very easily all consuming, I'm trying to still 'live my life' and not get obsessed but it's hard. Amazingly whether a woman currently has no children, one child or more the inability to conceive still hits hard like a sledgehammer, it's not easy being a woman!

They packed me off with a pregnancy test and told me to take it on the 9th. But as you say, if af turns up its all over. I have come to hate these tests, I've never seen a positive one, so I'm starting to wonder if they say anything other than no!

AF due approx 7th may. Haven't got a test date, will just wait for af. I find negative pregnancy tests even more upsetting than AF arriving. You?

Very excited now, IUI went off without a hitch this morning. I have signed many pieces of paper saying I understand I'm at high risk of twins as well ( I could only hope to be so lucky that one makes it). 2ww starting now!

Fresh - when is your test date?
