Only 2 possibly 3 follicles at IVF scan;(

Hi girls,

I hope you re all enjoying the sun! I'm looking for some hope that all is not lost! Attended day 9 IVF scan today. This is my first IVF and no idea how/if I would respond due to having low amh of 2.8.

Unfortunately looks like there are only 2 possibly 3 follicles doing much on one ovary and the other ovary is doing absolutely buggier all. Anyone got any hope to share as I realise that this is a pretty pants response. Am on 450 dose too so it's not like upping it is an option! Has anyone had similar and got much further or better yet got a bfp? X

Hi Everyone
i just started on my first ivf cycle. i will have my first scan on tuesday and after that i will start on m hormones. We live in spain, so it is all a bit difficult with the language at the hospital. I have not really researched anything so far, and by reading all the threads i start to think i should have done... well lets see how the first ultrasound is going :)

Shellster52 · 12/06/2014 00:34

Four years of struggling is such a long time Happily. You deserve it.

faith I am so sorry to hear. I actually had a thought that I didn't want to mention to stress you out with during your 2ww but now it's over... I thought they did day 5 transfer as the latest standard transfer date for a reason - at day 5 the embryos are starting to hatch and at day 6, the embryos have hatched out of their shell and are trying to implant. Could the reason that all your embryos didn't survive on day 6 despite being strong at day 5 is because they had all hatched and had no uterus to implant into? Did the lab say that they had all hatched out of their shell before they died? I think you have a really high chance if you try again because most people don't have such a high number make it to day 5 so your embryo quality is a level above most people. Surely you can't luck out and have day 5 on a Sunday again.

Gottahavefaith14 · 12/06/2014 10:50

Thanks happily! I'm okay, with your test line been so dark, Mabey it might be twins!!!!!

ShellsterI don't know the lab tech didn't say , they just said that there was only one that was left to transfer there didn't tell me the reason. I'm only 27 so my egg quality should be good although I have Pcos, I don't know. Because I've been tryen for 6 years and had 6 rounds of clomid in the past and no pregnancy , so There's so thing going wrong! My given test date isn't till Monday tho so I Carnt ring the hospital for my next steps until then , I will take a test just to make sure but 14 days past transfer is long!

Thanks for that though it is something that I will ask next time And if it does happen again I will insist on a three day transfer instead. I've still got 2 more funded try's to go but IVF is so hard on our bodies, I may have a break for a few months. What is standard after a failed Ivf can you try again straight away or do you have to wait any way x

Happilymarried155 · 12/06/2014 11:03

gotta your the same age as me! I asked my clinic about this incase it didn't work and they said they would want me to talk to the doctor and wait a couple of months. It could be different in areas though, I only had one funded go on the nhs so would have had to pay for any others! I'm glad you feeling ok though, I had 3 failed iui treatments so I know the disappointment you must be feeling.

Ha ha twins! It had crossed my mind so fingers crossed then I never have to do this again! I'm still so scared though, I'm terrified of going in a couple of weeks and them telling me it's not viable again. I'm telling myself it's unlikely to happen again but it's still very worrying.

Had you told anyone you were doing ivf? X

Shellster52 · 12/06/2014 13:06

Wow Gotta, thats a long time of trying. I've been trying 3 years which already feels so much longer when it is so draining. Can't imagine 6. I am about to turn 37 so I feel like I am running out of time. Was the reason the Clomid wasn't successful because you still didn't ovulate on it. Or did you ovulate but still not fall pregnant?

According to one study (can find and post the link if you are interested), there is some research against 3 day transfer because the embryo would normally be in the fallopian tube and not exposed to the progesterone of the uterus then. So I didn't mean to say don't get a day 5 transfer - just not a day 6! Glad you have two more funded trys in your area.

Twins Happily! But you only had one transferred if I remember right? So what happens on your NHS system when it comes to trying for baby number two?

Happilymarried155 · 12/06/2014 13:42

Ha ha! Yep only one so I think twins is wishful thinking but you never know. Here if you have a child you don't get any funded ivf treatment so it's good we have some frosties that we can use in the future if we need too.

It's amazing how long some people have to wait to have a baby. I always tell myself il appreciate all the more and it will be that bit more special because it was so hard to get there! X

Gottahavefaith14 · 12/06/2014 16:31

thats my take on it too happily , ill appreciate it alot more !! i think three funded is very generous not many areas do this so im lucky in that respect, you dont get any funded if either of you have a child from previos relationships either.

shelster, the clomid i was put on 50mg first cycle- didnt respond next 5 were 100mg, only three out of the five i ovulated! i havent been going through treatment the full 6yr , its been about three years since i was first refered, that's the down side of the Nhs there's at least 4 months between apportionments then 3 month waiting lists if you need any procedures! It feels like ill never get a baby its been that long!

yeh i think my clinic say you have to wait a few months but im happy with that, im sure you will have a viable pregnancy its natural to worry , even more so after what we go through with IVF.

shellster i have read something along them lines 2, i would much rather have a 5 day transfer, but if it happens to land on a Sunday , i would rather have a 3 if you know what i mean! when are you starting again?

Happily what are your nexts steps, do you need blood test or do you just wait for your scan

Happilymarried155 · 12/06/2014 18:04

I just need to wait for a scan which will be at the start of July, so just a waiting game now!

It is good that you have 3 attempts and you had such a good egg collection last time so fingers crossed it works next time. The only extra things I did was have the endo scratch the month before ivf, I had to pay for this but thought if it increased success rates it was worth it! I also had the embryo scope (again I paid for this) but it enabled them to make sure that they put the very best one back. I are a whole pineapple including core in the 5 days following transfer.

I don't know I any of these things made a difference but they certainly didn't do any harm! X

Gottahavefaith14 · 12/06/2014 23:17

more waiting ! lol it will be all worth it !

thanks for the advice! i will try the pineapple definatley next cycle ive read a lot of people talk about pinaple helping implantation, what is an embryo scope?

Happilymarried155 · 13/06/2014 07:28

They put all embryo in a special incubator and it takes a picture to check on them every ten minutes, this means that they don't have to take them out to check on them it, which adjusts the temperature etc and can effect the quality. It also means it can pick the very best one and the embryo that had hit it's targets all the right times. It can also see if there is a problem. It's supposed to increase success rates by 10% and the same with the endo scratch.

As I say I don't know if these things made a difference but it's always worth a shot x

Gottahavefaith14 · 13/06/2014 09:33

i will definatly look into that thanks for the advice, i don't think i like the sound of endo scratch though! haha. im going to ask my clinic about the embryo scope next time it makes sense that it increases chances because there are not disturbed.

how are you feeling? are you feeling pregnant yet Grin

Happilymarried155 · 13/06/2014 09:39

I've got to admit the scratch did hurt! Only for about 30 seconds but everyone I read that had it then got there bfp and I figured it would be a lot easier than giving birth so it was worth a try!!! Defo things to look into though. How long do you have to wait until you talk to your clinic?

I'm ok, starting to feel abit sick n tired but that's it. To be honest I'm just consumed with worry after last time and don't think il be able to enjoy it, be excited or even believe it until we go for the scan. I can't bear the crushing disappointment again. I know that logically everything is more likely to be ok than not but it's hard to relax!

Shellster52 · 14/06/2014 04:10

That has worked out well Happily that you have frosty's then happily - so you just pay for the transfer rather than the full thing. Do you have to pay for storage in the meantime? I hope you scan goes well. Oh and glad you mentioned the scratch to faith. Adding it now to my list of questions for my appt to arrange my next IVF.

faith, do you have any set dates or ideas when you will do IVF again? I just got my period today after my IVF was cancelled last cycle. So if I ovulate normally this cycle, I can start IVF again next cycle. Would be nice to know someone who is doing it around the same time and who understands the fear of failure after having been through it too.

Gottahavefaith14 · 15/06/2014 20:07

Happily i can understand your worry , i think i would be exactly the same in your situation, hope the time passes quickly for your scan, im sure everything will be fine , got everything crossed for you.
I will defiantly be asking about the endo scratch and the embryo scope, i have to call the clinic in the morning with the results. Yes all my friends and my parents and my partners family know we are going through ivf, but next time i think i will keep it between us. With everyone asking "did it work?" and asking questions when there really dont understand the process makes it a little bit harder explaining that it failed to everyone! ! what about you , did you tell people?

Shellster. I'm not sure when i will be able to start again, it all depends what the clinic will allow, i will ring them tomorrow and find out more, ideally i will miss this month out and start again next month so maybe we will be around the same time , which will be good, i know what you mean about the fear of failure, i cant even begin to think about going through all this for it to fail again. What were you advised after your last cycle?

Happilymarried155 · 15/06/2014 20:43

No we didn't tell anyone exactly for that reason! I didn't want everyone asking and I also wanted to be 'normal' and be able to suprise with an announcement! Plus after suffering a miscarriage before and having to break the news to excited people we definitely won't be telling anyone until we definitely know that every thing is ok!

It is hard though because it can be quite lonely and it's nice to have other peoples support if you need it! X

Shellster52 · 16/06/2014 02:32

faith, I am seeing my IVF doctor for the first time since my last IVF on Fri 20th June, so I haven't yet been advised anything. I have done much research and have my ideas on what went wrong last cycle and what I want to do next cycle. So rather than her advising me, I am going in with a list and hoping she will agree.

How did you get on calling your clinic? I assume you will have to go for another appointment to arrange another IVF. Do you have any ideas on what you wold like to do differently next cycle or are you just going to be guided by their expert opinion? I guess really you did amazing to have 7 embryos at day 5 (most women have a lot die off between day 4-5) so the only thing you need to change is the transfer day! Surely you can't be so unlucky that it will fall on Sunday twice in row.

My period arrived earlier than expected after this cancelled IVF, so now I am still going to be away on holidays at day 2 of my next cycle when I should be getting a scan and starting the IVF drugs. Hopefully I can do the scan a bit late and just take the drugs with me and start them while away. Will be a bit difficult keeping them cold while we travel around but I just can't bear the thought of waiting yet another cycle. I just want this long journey over with. Plus I am about to turn 37 so time is not on my side!

Chattycat78 · 16/06/2014 14:50

Hi guys,

Really sorry for my absence- I've been out of the country fir the last 2 weeks.

Happily- thanks so much for your message- and I can see from the thread above that you got a bfp!!! that's smashing- congratulations to you!! When is your scan and when will you be due?

All is good with me- have had 2 scans now, including one this morning and everything is good so I'm now 9 weeks pregnant. Of course I'm still very cautious, but hoping got the best.

Shell- how are things with you? X

Shellster52 · 17/06/2014 02:24

Glad for you that things are moving along smoothy Chatty. My last IVF was cancelled after only 3 of 14 follicles responded and my Dr thought I could do better. So trying yet again next cycle. The IVF fun continues!

Gottahavefaith14 · 17/06/2014 22:04

HI GIRLS,

i rang the clinic there said to come off the prog pesereis!! hurray! lol so i got my bleed today, there have advise a four month break until the next cycle and just to ring in three month time to book an appointment. The consultant said everything went to plan as far as the protocol and egg collection went , so he said he will probably wont change anything next time as there retrieved 15 eggs. As far as the cycle goes it went as well as it could of done.

i think i am going to try endo scratch next time round, as implantation was the problem! or maybe it was the day the embryo was transferred. it wont do any harm any way! so thanks for the advice !

i have just booked 2 weeks away in turkey for September so i will be relaxed and raring to go come October :/

Shellster52 · 18/06/2014 00:31

You are an amazing inspiration faith with your ability to look forward and see positivity for the future in your situation. You are right though - you got 15 eggs (I could only dream of that), you had 7 make it to day 5 (amazing quality) so it seems logical that it will happen for you and that it was just very unfortunate this time. A holiday overseas will keep you focused on that in the meantime. Yeah - definitely not day 6 transfer next time!

Happilymarried155 · 18/06/2014 07:22

It's great that you have a plan in place, always makes me feel better to know the next step!
Pleased your doing the scratch too! I've read so many good things about it that I'm sure it probably contributed to our bfp!

A holiday before you start sounds like the perfect idea :)

roseyfuture55 · 03/10/2014 10:52

Hi everyone, I'm new to this website and relatively new to IVF. I just turned 45, didn't ever think I'd still be without a child at my age or having to try IVF. A year ago I was forced to make the decision to try IVF as I was diagnosed with early borderline ovarian cancer and will need to remove my ovaries. I'd only really been trying to conceive for 6 months prior to that so came as a real shock. So I got myself tested for fertility problems and told I had low AMH at

Nyyadee · 12/12/2014 16:32

Hello ladies!
I m new and I m hopping u can help me!
