Only 2 possibly 3 follicles at IVF scan;(

Hi girls,

I hope you re all enjoying the sun! I'm looking for some hope that all is not lost! Attended day 9 IVF scan today. This is my first IVF and no idea how/if I would respond due to having low amh of 2.8.

Unfortunately looks like there are only 2 possibly 3 follicles doing much on one ovary and the other ovary is doing absolutely buggier all. Anyone got any hope to share as I realise that this is a pretty pants response. Am on 450 dose too so it's not like upping it is an option! Has anyone had similar and got much further or better yet got a bfp? X

Fab news Chatty! I'll keep everything crossed for you. I totally understand that it must be hard to relax, but if things go well you will have plenty of time to enjoy it all!

Has the spotting stopped Chatty? Did you have spotting at the beginning of your previous pregnancy? I do hear of women having implantation spotting so hoping that was all it was. Maybe if you have a thick lining/heavy period, the spotting is more likely to occur?

I am about to start IVF in a few days. Not far behind you in your BFP!!

Hey girls- thanks for the warm wishes. Shell- spotting still present a bit and I did have it unfortunately with the other pregnancy so it's hard not to panic really! I'm just praying it's ok this time.

Good luck starting IVF in a few days! X

Sounds like the spotting is at least settling down then. When are you next getting reviewed/blood test/ ultrasound to give you some reassurance...are your HCG numbers still climbing? I just want it to work out so bad because I know the pain. Thinking of you.

Yep, my period should arrive any day now and then crazy me is putting myself back on the roller coaster ride of emotions with IVF!

Hi shell- just checking in. How is the cycle going? I'm guessing you've started now? I really hope this Is your lucky cycle this time.

Happily- same applies to you - how are you getting on?

As for me, I'm just praying that my scan in a week and a half is normal. Let's hope we all have good news soon xxx

All going well so far, have 12 big follies so ec all scheduled for Monday! That's the bit I'm most scared about! X

Happily- I found ec fine. I can't even remember it at all and I felt fine afterwards. I'm sure you will be ok. Good luck with it. Let me know how u go. 12 eggs is a great number.,you should get some good embryos out of that!

I feel ok. Sore boobs and stretching feelings in stomach and a bit sick in the morning but not a lot else yet. X

Yes I've started now Chatty. Had 13 follicles at day 2 scan yesterday. I know normally about half respond but I think my left ovary has been permanently damaged during Sep 13 egg retrieval as it hasn't responded well to stims drugs since. My next scan is booked for day 9 so I just have to wait and see. Just have to remember you and know it's all about quality over quantity.

So we shall be having scan around same time. Let us know how you get on. I think even when we are pregnant, it's still not the same as if we had conceived easily because the pregnancy is so much more precious to us with the years of pain it takes us to get to that point. If something goes wrong, we know the chance may never come again.

Hi shell- wow 13 follicles is amazing! Fingers crossed you get a good response this time. Surely there will be some good ones in there with 13 to start! We re u taking aspirin this time? I wonder if it's that?

Yes that's exactly how I feel about something going wrong- as a result I'm terrified about the scan or having another miscarriage. In a way I'd rather not find out and stay ignorant! I suppose I've got no choice though.

Yes I have been taking Aspirin since my March IVF cancelled cycle when I only had 5 follicles on day 2. It is definitely the Aspirin that has helped. My saving grace. I am so glad I found that research article about it or I would have felt like all hope was lost. When exactly did you stop the Aspirin? Obviously you got your BFP so I am happy to follow what you did!

Lets just hope that there is absolutely nothing wrong with your baby and there is no need for you to stay ignorant! How many weeks along will you be at this scan?

Hi shell- I stopped the aspirin at ec, although I don't know that it helped me this cycle as you know about my low numbers! If this doesn't work out and I have to do IVF again ill def get back on the aspirin.

13 follies is really great - let's hope they all grow!

At the scan I'll be 7 weeks, so just praying til then really....

Thanks for answering my question Chatty. I am continuing on with the Aspirin too. Since it has helped get extra blood to my ovaries to produce 13 follicles, I figure it will get extra blood to my ovaries to get them growing too. So I am doing injections at the same time as taking Aspirin so that the FSH filled blood can get to my ovaries and grow my follicles. Although, lets hope you never need any further Aspirin advice since this pregnancy will all go smoothly!

Some women take the Aspirin after ET, assuming it will help with implantation. But since you stopped Aspirin then and got your baby, I will stop too!

Everything went fine today, got 15 eggs so I'm pleased with that. Just need to wait for the dreaded phone call tommorow now! X

Hi- yeah am ok thanks. A week to go til the scan. Still terrified of what it might show or not show but I guess I've done everything I can now and have no control over what happens next. You'll Be in the tww yourself soon! :)

13 is a brill number- congratulations! I'm guessing you might go for 5 day transfer with that? You may also have some to freeze! X

Ok thanks happily. Although saying that, very tired and Feeling very much like I have a stomach upset. Not sure if I do or if that's my version of morning sickness! Still dreading the scan, but I guess I need to find out if this is A viable pg or not eventually.

Yey for you and your 5 dt! When u get to that point - i ate fresh pineapple and pineapple core every day from transfer . I think some studies have shown it may help, but I figured it couldn't hurt!

Hi just like to share my expirence I had egg collection today , I had 12 days off stimming and on my last scan I was told that there was only 2/3 follicles that looked big enuf but would go ahead with transfer any way becuae of my Pcos was unsafe to stimm any longer and way to cut a longggg story short after the expected 3 ther received 15 eggs!!! 13 of which were mature , so ease don't worry ther know best!! Xx

Thanks for sharing faith. Must have been such a relief to get that news! Although with my history, they only expect a poor number and that's all they ever get! At day 9 of cycle today and only 5 follicles that may be large enough at same time for egg collection. So I am still not hopefull about numbers but hoping as was the case for Chatty, its a case of quality over quantity. Keep us updated!

yes it was such a relief shellster, i wasn't expecting to make transfer day but l had transfer today one grade 2 blastocyst. and the tww begins!! no idea what grade 2 means!

did you have another scan today to check follicle growth , how did it go? xx

Yep, went for scan faith. Largest follicles 20mm, 20mm, 15mm and 11mm. Another 10 were all under 9mm. Dr said that it was unusual to have only 3 mature follicles when I had 14 in total and advised me to cancel and try another cycle as she is sure I can get more. So I am waiting this cycle out, then having a one cycle break while we take a holiday. I will start IVF the following cycle a few days after we return. Tried naturally last night because it's free so we may as well not waste 3 eggs, but hubby has 100% abnormal sperm so I don't have any faith.

Out of curiosity, do you know the size of your largest follicles when they said only 3 were mature but ended up with 13m mature? Surely they weren't as little as mine at

I have 2 children both from 3 follicle IVF cycles. Your right on your high dose of FSH it's not ideal but you only need 1 egg to make 1 baby. If this cycle is unsuccessful it's worth looking into natural cycle IVF. Best of luck and I've got everything crossed for you xx
