Hi girls,

I hope you re all enjoying the sun! I'm looking for some hope that all is not lost! Attended day 9 IVF scan today. This is my first IVF and no idea how/if I would respond due to having low amh of 2.8.

Unfortunately looks like there are only 2 possibly 3 follicles doing much on one ovary and the other ovary is doing absolutely buggier all. Anyone got any hope to share as I realise that this is a pretty pants response. Am on 450 dose too so it's not like upping it is an option! Has anyone had similar and got much further or better yet got a bfp? X

sorry to hear that your cycle has been cancelled you must be so disappointed its so hard , you sound pretty positive about it though witch is good.

no unfortunately no frosties, there was only one left yesterday wich was a grade 2 6 day blast, the embryologist seemed pleased with it but i was disappointed from the 7 that was still there the day before only one survived to transfer day. but it only takes one!

on my scan there was one 15mm one 14mm and the other was 11mm the others were >10, i have no idea how i had 13 mature after transfer, there were umming and aring weather to cancel my cycle also but decided to go ahead, thankfully!

the tww begins im only on day one and google mad already! its going to be a longggg 2 weeks.

Happilymarried155 · 03/06/2014 19:57

How did you get on chattycat?

Shellster52 · 04/06/2014 03:21

So you had a day 6 transfer instead of a day 5? I have never heard of that. And there were 7 on day 5? I thought they normally froze them on day 5. Or perhaps I am not understanding right?

Yes, I'm trying to look forward (after a day of sobbing!) I think I have found the answer to what went wrong so it gives me hope for next time. I took Aspirin in the lead up to IVF which worked in that it doubled my AFC, but I continued taking it during stim phase. However, I just read a study that it actually hinders follicle growth and in the study, those on Aspirin got less eggs than those who were not! So next time I will stop the Aspirin before I start the IVF drugs and hope that is the answer!

Perhaps you can confirm this Chatty - I know you only had 2/3 follicles respond. Did you have a day 2 scan to know how many you started with? I hope you are okay?
So next time, I am stopping Aspirin before I start IVF

Chatty, are you okay

Gottahavefaith14 · 04/06/2014 12:37

i had day 6 blast transferred because day 5 was a Sunday, as far as i can understand the hospital don't do procedures on this day. on the Saturday the lab tech rang me up about 11am and said all looked perfect and booked me in for transfer the following Monday but by the Monday there was only one suitable for transfer and none suitable for freezing. there wouldn't of frozen the embies on day 5 (the Sunday) because my transfer wasn't until the next day.

I hope you have discovered the answer as too why too. its such a hard time , wishing you all the luck in the world

Shellster52 · 05/06/2014 02:00

Oh, okay that makes sense why you had a day 6 transfer. Wow, so they really don't seem to be able to live beyond day 5 in the petri dish - your last little embryo must be really strong and hopefully that's a good sign for you.

Yes, I hope I have found the answer. Its going to be such a wait to see if I am right. Hopefully the holiday next cycle will help fill in the time until I try again the following cycle

Gottahavefaith14 · 05/06/2014 16:42

oh really , i wasn't aware off that i was thinking a may have low quality eggs because there all didn't survive apart from one, i prefer your method of thinking ! i will go with that!,

you have a positive attitude its very refreshing , the holiday might do you good. how many ivf cycles have you had? if you dont mind me asking x

do you know how long a trigger shot usually stays in your system? i tested this morning to make sure it had gone after reading up about it online, the test was faintly positive this am so it is still there and its been ten days since i had it, is that about right? x

Happilymarried155 · 05/06/2014 19:17

I think it can stay in your system for 10-12 days, might even be 14 if I remember rightly!

chatty how are you? X

mummytowillow · 05/06/2014 19:30

Hi, I had 5 cycles of ICSI when I was 38. I was a poor responder, my first three cycles were on Menopur and they were cancelled as nothing was happening Hmm

I then had another cycle on Gonal F and I only got three eggs and BFN.

Next cycle worked with three eggs again but sadly MC'd.

Final cycle I threw everything at it, no alcohol, caffeine etc for 6 months. Zits West bits and acupuncture for 6 months (cost a fortune)! Got three eggs and my DD is now 6 so it can be done Grin

I'd seriously consider acupuncture as I'm convinced it helps. Good luck

Shellster52 · 07/06/2014 01:52

I don't mind answering any questions at all faith. I have now had 6 cycles, but 3 of them were cancelled.

1 - One embryo fertilised but died before transfer
2 - Cancelled because I forgot to take injection and ovulated naturally
3 - Two mediocre embryos transferred. BFN.
4 - One excellent embryo transferred. BFN
5 - I cancelled because I only started with 5 antrals of which only 3 grew
6 - Dr cancelled because only 3 follicles grew after starting with 14 so she thinks she can get more to respond next time

I remember testing just a few days after the trigger shot and the preg test was negative but obviously yours is still in your system longer. Have you retested since?

mummytowillow, it's always refreshing hearing success stories from fellow poor responders so thank you. I too am throwing everything into it so it can be a case of quality over quantity n(except for the last week after recent cancelled cycle where I drank alcohol and ate junk - but getting back on track now!) I am doing acupuncture but not sure what you mean by 'Zita West bits'? Am happy to try everything so I can say I gave it my all.

Happilymarried155 · 07/06/2014 08:18

gotta how are you getting along with the wait? X

Gottahavefaith14 · 07/06/2014 22:22

you must be very strong shellster this is my first round of ivf and it is sooooo hard, sorry to hear about your miscaraige, i tested yesterday to check and it was still positive that was 4dp5dt so trigger still in my system ive read somewhere that it can take up to 14 days to go from our bodies so no more early tests for me! ill wait the 14 days so it will defiantly have gone, i didn't really do much the first few days after transfer so maybe ive taken longer to metabolize it.

happily im doing okay i suppose just very impatient! have had AF pains today but that's the only thing besides that ive felt completely normal, apart from tiredness from the dreaded progesterone pesseries!! Im only 5 dp5dt! im worried Af might be coming, how are you doing hun?

ladies with an IVF cycle when should i expect AF? is it the normal 14 days post ovulation (collection) or does the progesterone prevent it? its mabey a question i should of asked the doc but i didnt really think that far ahead! Blush

Turquoisetamborine · 08/06/2014 08:04

Gotta the progesterone normally prevents AF showing up but I had a bleed at day 15 after transfer and I knew it was all over then. Proper bleed started the day after stopping the progesterone.

It's a cruelty because it causes pregnancy symptoms. Hope it's not too torturous for you.

Gottahavefaith14 · 08/06/2014 14:18

Thanks turquoise I thort that would be the case , yeh the progesterone is awfull stuff, nausea has hit today! , I'm not feeling very positive today. I'm only 6dpt got another 8days till test day ! Thanks for your reply. Are you going to try again x

Shellster52 · 08/06/2014 22:43

Maybe I worded something wrong faith - I never miscarried. If I recall correctly, I think during my IVF cycle, my period still showed up at about day 28-29. So today is 12dpt - and you still have to wait another 7 to test! That sounds ages away. I would have thought you could test at 10dp 5dt - as that would make it day 29 of a textbook cycle which would be the first day after a missed period. When is your period scheduled to arrive if the progesterone was not delaying it?

Turquoisetamborine · 09/06/2014 07:12

Hi Gotta yes trying again next month. Lucky number two hopefully. Much better clinic this time so fingers crossed for us both!

Gottahavefaith14 · 09/06/2014 11:05

sorry shellster i read it wrong, apologies. Yes my test day is 14 days post transfer which i think is a bit mean! today for me is 7dpt, i may test on Wednesday which will be 9dpo, i don't no when Af is due, due to my pco i have very irregular cycles, my last natural period was November!

Turq, good luck and fingers crossed for second time lucky!

Shellster52 · 10/06/2014 01:15

faith, if today is 7dpt, doesn't that make Wednesday 13 days past ovulation? I would think that by Friday you could test and know for sure since that will be 15 dpo. Even though your cycles are whacky, the embryo would still implant and produce HCG at the textbook rate and you would get an accurate result one day after the textbook missed period. That's my theory anyway!

So 14dp 6dt - that is the day you go to the clinic for an official blood test, but you can test yourself sooner? Will you get a natural period if this cycle fails (gulp) since they have put your body through a natural cycle of producing follicles and ovulating/egg collection?

Sorry, all the questions! I am impatiently waiting until I can try again so in the meantime I am living through others!

tamborine, do you have any idea of date when you will start? I start
mid July and I too am at a new clinic. Would be nice to chat with others going through all the emotions of it at the same time.

Happilymarried155 · 10/06/2014 07:46

I caved and tested at 8dp5dt and it's a very dark clear BFP!!!!! I'm so happy and scared at the same time!!!! X

Turquoisetamborine · 10/06/2014 07:48

Hi Shell I'm going for my first consultation at the new clinic today so I should know some dates better later on. I'll let you know. When should you be starting?

Gottahavefaith14 · 10/06/2014 20:20

WOW Happilymarried CONGRATULATIONS!! great news SO SO pleased for you !!

Happilymarried155 · 10/06/2014 20:24

Thank you, being very cautious until I've had the scan as I've been here before but I'm hoping that I can't be that unlucky twice!

How are you getting on? X

Gottahavefaith14 · 10/06/2014 20:30

shellster tomorow i will be 9dp5dt , is that counted as 14dpo ? i will test in the morning, im sure its going to be negative i just want to put my self out of my misery! ill test again Thursday which will make it 15dpo. im not holding out much hope.

i think you theory makes sence! im on progesterone pessaries so if it fails, i will be told to stop taking them , the withdrawal of the progesterone should (should) im guessing! bring on a bleed.

and dont worry ask away!

happily congratulations again!! such great news! :)

Grittzio · 10/06/2014 20:35

Hi, sorry haven't read all the thread but I was a low responder, I only had 3 follicles, 2 fertilised resulting in 1 DS, good luck, it only takes 1 as my consultant kept saying x

Shellster52 · 11/06/2014 06:10

Whoop, whoop! I am happy for you Happily and jealous at the same time! After 6 previous IVF attempts, can you put me at the top of the list to be next please!!

Turquoise, I have an appt on 20th June to see if Dr agrees with mty plan but so far this is it - today day 21 of current cycle. Will have next cycle off then start IVF the following cycle. My cycles always vary by a few days so I can't give exact date but should be mid July. Looking forward to hearing when you are starting.

faith, you sound so negative but I just have a BFP vibe for you. Here's hoping...

Happilymarried155 · 11/06/2014 06:54

faith good luck today I'm thinking of you and really hope you get your bfp!!

shellster thank you so much. I can hardly believe it after 4 years of trying. I'm trying to remain calm until my scan as I've obviously felt this joy once before and it came crashing down so I feel like the 6 week scan is my final hurdle!!! Wishing you all the very best of luck for your next ivf scan, you really do deserve your bfp!!! X
