The hut of gl/doom: ttc against the odds

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 10/02/2012 22:51

This is a safe haven for those ttc with difficult, with ?sub-fertility or sub-fertility labels. Where like minded people offer encouragement at times and commiserations at others.
I've decided the theme is Cocktail style: Flanagans. With a pink neon sign: Cocktails and dreams. Blinkity blink.
Newbies are welcome. Come share your tales of woe

Pink I know it might seem like they are being negative about the last round of injections but at least they are setting you up for the next stage just in case.
BB that is very unfair. I would insist on going back and asking for at least a realsitic weight loss target that they will then see you after eg a stone and also a timescale for how long you will have to wait before they will do anything

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 17/02/2012 07:02

BB could you ask for a dietetic referral for dietary advice? Doesn't seem fair for them to say 'lose weight' with no help to do it! How are you finding Paul? I've found it helpful to join the thread in the big/slim/whatever category for support.

Thanks guys im glad its not jst me who thinks its a bit unreasonable! My doc said the consultant wont see me until im under 100kg... And then said I wouldn't be a priority as have DS. Im trying not to get worked up about it as i am loosing weight anyway an conceived DS naturally but on the other hand can see myself not thinking that way if nothings changed in a year!! They offered a singular dietician session but i wanted counselling as I think my eating stems from grief and is often affected by stress and boredom! Thats here im hoping paul mckenna will help going to start it tonight as was too ill yeaterday and weds to eat a thing. Its just disheartening as people look at you as i you should just be able to loose weight yet dp and i followed sane diet for 6 mnths, he lost 4 stone i lost 1!! Not bloody fair! Any way thats my rant done haha!

queenrollo · 17/02/2012 10:22

Morning girls.

Gah! I woke up itching all over this morning, huge hives came up. Just been to nurse practitioner who says either 1/ post anti-b allergic reaction or 2/ possible reaction to Canesten cream.
She's not convinced I've got thrush but doesn't want to swab just yet, has asked me to go back next week if the discomfort doesn't go away.

carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 11:39

I am only just under the 100kg but I am tall and have a fluid retention problem which they have taken into consierdation. My consultant wasn't bothered about my weight. Have you much to lose to get under that BB?
Queenrollo I was wondering where you were :)

carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 12:58

BBisBBack · 17/02/2012 15:17

Ah carrie Sad we are all guilty of it every month when im late i think this is it ive had x y z symptoms!

Eek queen tht doesnt sound fun at all!

queenrollo · 17/02/2012 17:11

oh ffs. i've started itching again and the hives are coming back up. GP surgery closed, so i tried NHs direct but they're playing a message that says urgent enquiries only as they are very busy. Well it's not really urgent - but i do need advice because i'll never be able to sleep like this, and already took a one a day anti-histamine so not sure what else i can do?

and we really should dtd this weekend for our best shot. how crap.

BBisBBack · 17/02/2012 17:17

Queen eek thats a dilemma i dont know if the chemist might be able to help? These things always happen when its time to dtd! Same with my dps shift change and my d&v.

carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 17:46

Try a pharmacy they will give better advice about what pills you can take and what creams will stop the itching. Try getting carmine cream I use it for my DD allergy

carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 18:16

Oh and BB 10kg is about 22 pounds so your half way there already!

BBisBBack · 17/02/2012 19:20

Oh thanks carrie thats cheering! I shall do this! I shall!

carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 19:46

So how painful is the HSG?

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 17/02/2012 19:53

Umm Hmm
Most women say it's not too bad....
I went into spasm and was in lots of pain for a few days
Take some painkillers beforehand and a towel for afterwards!

OP posts:
carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 20:26

I'm going to take lots of pills lol and a stick on heat pad as well. I didn't think about the dye leaking out after!

queenrollo · 17/02/2012 20:44

actually my surgery was open. My GP prescribed me some better anti-histamines. Well either they aren't working or i would be scrubbing myself with a wire brush without them.

This is not like the rash i get with penicillin. This is proper hives/urticaria and I am in fecking agony. My ears are on fire. I can't sit on a hard chair Blush sorry but it seems to be really bad on my behind and it hurts now!
The only cream I have in the house is Sudocreme - would that be ok? would it give me relief do you think. And my eyelids have swollen too. This is rubbish.

carrie - I found the HSG uncomfortable but not unbearable. I took two ibru about 30 mins before I went and found I could breathe through the worst bits. I didn't leak all that much afterwards and was a bit crampy that afternoon.

carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 21:19

Sudocreme should help sooth and won't irrate so perfect it can be used on burns and all sorts. Try putting it in the fridge. A cold bath might help as will a cold cloth for your eyes. I hope you get some relief soon. Itching is always worse with heat so keep as cool as possible.
I have cramps most of the time so I don't know what to expect. I will take some half an hour before as it seems to be what everyone is advising

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 17/02/2012 21:46

I was going to say cool shower or bath, avoid any gels/bath foams. If it gets worse you'll have to go to a&e, especially if your eyes are swollen. If your lips swell, go immediately!
I'm not sure the heat patch will help much carrie cos it's very internal. Yes the dye seeps out and I spotted a bit because they had to push through my rather narrow cervix. Ouchy. Not the case for everyone!

OP posts:
queenrollo · 17/02/2012 22:11

I was thinking that this isn't like my usual allergic 'rash'. I've been doing some research and realised that it's hives! I'm less worried about my eyes now as i've read that swollen eyes are a common occurrence with urticaria. Don't worry though phoenix i've taken your advice on board and also DH has said that if i get worse and he's worried he's going to take me to A&E!
I just hope I can get some sleep tonight, and the itching settles down properly.

I look a state though....ugh....

carrieonlaughing · 17/02/2012 22:13

I had a coil fitted before I had my DD and they had to open my cervix and yes it was very ouchy. Hopefully as I have had her it won't be as bad. I find heat very soothing when it comes to any pain more so than painkillers.
Yes if it starts to affect you lips or tongue at all go to A&E. TBH if the reaction gets any worse and your starting to worry I would go

queenrollo · 18/02/2012 08:35

well i just got home after a dull and tiring 4 and a half hours in A&E. Woke up in the early hours really not well and called the 111 service. This is brilliant!! but due to my explanation of symptoms and the face swelling I was told to go straight to A&E. Had to get DS out of bed (it was 3am!) and I woke DH who in his sleepy fog kept saying 'can i have a cuppa first?' no you fecking can't!! I'm really ill and in danger of anaphylaxis.

Triaged well, except she couldn't get any blood out of me (this never happens) and she has really brusied my arm. In fact very badly, it hurts to bend it. Hence 3 hours later when the Doctor finally got to me and said I needed bloods taking I started crying and said 'no. i won't let you' Blush Eventually got a lovely lady to come and talk me round and she did the bloods and canula in the elbow at the same time, and it barely hurt at all.
I have no idea what the blood tests were for? They weren't back by the time I was discharged. I ended up having a wacking great load of Piriton and hydrocortisone via IV. Spaced out now, but wide awake despite lack of sleep (that's the hydro cortisone right?) so have sent DH back to bed for a couple of hours so he can catch up. I'll probably fall asleep later, and then he can look after DS.

That was a scary night, and i'm still Confused because this was quite a severe reaction, over quite a length of time and I still have no idea what caused it.

BBisBBack · 18/02/2012 09:00

Blimey queen that was scary! Glad you are ok though! I have bad veins and some nurses feel i they go for it they'll and they just bruise me! So feel your pain there! Hope you will get answers soon!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 18/02/2012 10:08

I'm glad you went to a&e under the circumstances! They were probably looking at inflammatory markers to see if it's an allergic reaction. The piriton would make you drowsy but the hydrocortisone could make you alert.
Have you changed anything lately like wading powder, tried new food? If not it may be worth asking for a dermatology referral to have skin patch tests down to see what you react to...you need to avoid this happening again!
Carrie if you've had your cervix opened and pushed a baby through it! I doubt the Hsg will be too bad. It just smarts.

queenrollo · 18/02/2012 20:00

phoenix i've wracked my brains to think what this could be. We've only been looking at what happened the day before though, and it's been brought to my attention that I could have had a delayed reaction so i've started looking at the few days before too.
I did get some plant sap on my hands when pruning a houseplant. I've looked it up and the plant sap is latex based. I had severe reaction to latex based plant sap once before but it was entirely localised and a very bad blister/burn. I'm aware though that reactions can differ. This particular allergy can also be triggered by eating avocado, which I eat rarely but had on Valentines Day.
I also wore a necklace that DH bought me so need to check if it has nickel on it.

I haven't changed wash powder, or toiletries. No new foods. It has scared me though, it was so very intense. I'm scared if it happens again that it will be more severe, and i'll have the breathing difficulties.
I may post in allergies on here to see if any has any pearls of wisdom.
