The hut of gl/doom: ttc against the odds

This is a safe haven for those ttc with difficult, with ?sub-fertility or sub-fertility labels. Where like minded people offer encouragement at times and commiserations at others.
I've decided the theme is Cocktail style: Flanagans. With a pink neon sign: Cocktails and dreams. Blinkity blink.
Newbies are welcome. Come share your tales of woe

Hello all,
Was hoping I could join the hut?

Came off microgynon last August to TTC. No periods since. I had an ovarian scan back in 2007 related to sharp pains (not TTC) which showed PCO, though bloodwork this time round shows "nothing untoward" in my GP's words. I've been referred to the fertility clinic though I think there's about a 2 month waiting list so in the meantime just hanging on in there.

I know I haven't been at this for very long at all but thought I'd fit in better here than one of those threads where people count DPO and such like since I feel pretty much pre-pubescent.

Hello summer

I'm similar to you in that I came off microgynon last July to TTC and not a sniff of AF since. But I have high prolactin levels which inhibits ovulation and am getting treatment atm but still very impatient and worried that AF will never appear! If your bloodworks all look good then maybe it'll just take a bit of time.

Welcome to the hut, feel free to gripe and moan and all the rest!

summerintherosegarden · 23/05/2012 12:40

Thanks flixy. It is reassuring to hear of others in the (somewhat) same boat. Hopefully your treatment works - I suppose it is positive at least to know what it is that needs to be treated.

When I told my GP I hadn't had AF for 9 months, she said, "a lot of women would kill for that problem!" :) (She has otherwise been brilliant and sympathetic though)

carrieonlaughing · 23/05/2012 12:58

Hi summer. I had similar problem 3 years ago no pill but periods just stopped for over a year! They didnt do any testing at the time due to me not TTC. They suddenly came back after about 15 months! Had no problems other than very heavy, long and painful since. Kinda wish I was back there lol.

summerintherosegarden · 23/05/2012 14:25

Wow carrie - did you ever find out why in the end? My GP seemed utterly baffled. I also have to admit to going to an acupuncturist (feel a bit Blush about that for some reason) who was the same. I went for 5 sessions and each time his face would fall in the same way when I said, "no, still nothing..."

carrieonlaughing · 23/05/2012 17:41

They just said stress! I had one blood test that showed I had high prolactin but that was all. My prolactin is normal now so could have been. I'm sick of opks I am normally fine with them. Now I am on clomid my ovulation isn't showing up. I know I must be or be due at least I have slight pain and ewcm. Just wish it would show

pinkapples · 23/05/2012 17:57

Hi summer im also a pcos sufferer... Welcome to the hut it is a god send some
Days Grin

Having a fat day today.. Ordered some neoprene slimming shorts yesterday and have made an appointment with a gp but it's not for like 2 weeks Sad

Stuck in a vicious cycle eat healthy lose nothing eat crap feel fat etc etc hopefully they can help I'm all out of ideas to do on my own apart from that very nervous about Friday but I'm sure I'll be fine GrinGrin

carrieonlaughing · 23/05/2012 21:18

Hi pink I am the same as you, I try fail then feel bad and its never ending.
Having a mental moment but hiding in the bathroom. My OH had agreed that while on clomid he would put in the extra effort dtd wise ( he has a lower drive than me) and we should be trying as this is the magic time and guess what he is too tired. I don't get how he can waste our last chance like this

summerintherosegarden · 24/05/2012 08:20

Thanks pink. I'm really lucky in that I don't have weight problems but a friend with PCOS who does swears by Weight Watchers - she went from size 22 to 14 in a year (!) and has stayed that way since, though she doesn't go to the meetings any more. Have you given them a try? Might be helpful being in a group setting (though I guess it depends what the other attendees were like - could be godawful if they were smugface weight losers)

carrie I hope you managed to bring DH round last night, or maybe managed something quick this morning..

carrieonlaughing · 24/05/2012 13:09

Nope he stayed out last night so haven't had chance. I have woken with pain in my left ovary and been to walk in. I could be I am ovulating but they were shocked I am not getting monitored at all. Have been told to go to A n E later if its still as bad

summerintherosegarden · 24/05/2012 14:13

Shit - hope it subsides and does turn out to be ovulation. Might be worth telling your GP/gynae about the pains & pretty much demanding monitoring?! (Easier said than done)

carrieonlaughing · 24/05/2012 17:42

Well its imoproved a little and just got a fairly strong line on my opk test so guess as soon as DD is down we best get on with it, pain or no pain I am not wasting it

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/05/2012 20:52

carrie,

Painful periods if consistent are often indicative of endometriosis being present.
Am glad to read that the pain has decreased but endo is also like that. If you eventually have to go to A & E I would insist there that you are transferred to the gynae unit.

It is poor practice that you are not being monitored whilst on clomid; you have no way of knowing whether its doing what it is supposed to (clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder). If there is definitive proof you are ovulating via blood tests I would question why they have put you on clomid in the first place.

Its not a good idea to use OPKs whilst on clomid because clomid encourages more LH to be produced. The kit may well be reading the increased LH levels due to clomid so is giving a false positive reading.

carrieonlaughing · 24/05/2012 22:08

Thanks atilla for the reply. I do have endo so suffer with symptoms.
They said the clomid was to produce more eggs and give me more chance with me only having one tube and OH having low mobility.
They didn't say it would affect opks

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 25/05/2012 08:22

Good luck for today pink, hope it all goes well!
carrie hope you're feeling better. Have you thought about contacting the team who put you on the clomid?

summerintherosegarden · 25/05/2012 11:22

Oh yes you've got your appt today pink. Best of luck & let us know how it all goes.

carrieonlaughing · 25/05/2012 12:53

Thinking positive thoughts pink.
Looks like it was ovualtion pain, just extreme pain. Feel a lot better today just twinges and dtd last night so fingers crossed.
I am on holiday next week so going to see how I am when back and then contact them and ask for some kind of monitoring

flixy102 · 25/05/2012 17:46

What a lovely day sure even the hit doesn't look too gloomy when the suns shining!

pink hope your appointment went well.

About to start making a carrot cake as a surprise for DH. As I'm totally useless in the kitchen a bit of a cake novice I hope it turns out ok! Grin

pinkapples · 25/05/2012 20:00

Didn't have an appointment ladies but have started taken the tablets my next hospital apt is the 12th June so I'm on tablet and nasal spray till then and then if all is well well start the injections hehe

summerintherosegarden · 25/05/2012 20:22

MMM carrot cake. If it goes wrong just slather on more frosting!

It's going to be beautiful all weekend I think. I'm waiting to have dinner in the garden with DH - we were about to eat when he got a call from his Dad and had to run out to buy him some immodium...

carrieonlaughing · 25/05/2012 20:51

You can't go wrong with cake as long as you measure it out and make sure your oven temp and timing are spot on. I find baking very theraputic but my ass doesn't.
Having a lot of pain and seriously considering refusing to take more clomid I am going to call the clinic next week even while on holiday and request another appointment

flixy102 · 25/05/2012 22:04

The cake turned out very well if I say so myself! Waiting on DH coming home from work to sample a wedge slice with a cup of tea Grin

pinkapples · 26/05/2012 09:00

Woowoo flixy glad your cake came out ok was it nice with your brew?
