fantastic Lou

welcome back runout

Tatt, tell your friends that the airlines are REQUIRED to put them up regardless of the cause of the delay. They are only absolved from paying extra compensation because it's extraordinary circumstances. They are NOT absolved from paying for accommodation. My dh brought a copy of the regs (which are available in all eu languages) to the ticket counter with him at the airport and made such a fuss so that they finally agreed to give him a room and eventually send him out on a coach. They might also call uk embassy in athens.

tatt · 23/04/2010 06:17

thanks SofiaAmes I've passed the message on but I think they'll have to sue when they get back. Hoping that they may have got a flight as they haven't replied to latest message.

tatt · 23/04/2010 06:24

MmeLindt its cyprus airways - they booked flight and villa separately so don't have the benefit of a tour company. They've rung the British High Commission in Cyprus only to be told to contact the airline. The airline numbers are constantly engaged so they have to keep going to the airport. Cyprus airways are not giving priority to those delayed They may be camped out at the airport now

My parents are finally back

In the end my sister got eurotunnel tickets to rescue them from calais.

After a day of looking after her kids plus my kids I was v tired and emotional and burst into tears when I saw them.. I blame the pg hormones

DH has landed! Plane got in about an hour ago so he should be here in a couple of hours.

He has travelled 20614 miles since leaving home!

Portofino · 23/04/2010 08:55

Ooh I'm "delightful"!

DD is missing her new friend already! The house seemed strangely quiet last night. Glad you all got home safely.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2010 10:41

Blimey Ali - thats nearly round the world! Must be nearly home

will everyone make it back before the thread runs out of room?

frumpygrumpy · 23/04/2010 11:37

My DP is home! Scotland - London - America (north, south, east AND finally west) - Vancouver - London - home. Went for 5 days, was away a fortnight. The good news is he only took a tiny bag of 5 shirts so little laundry

Still have friends in Oz and friends near Miaimi. They've been offered flights on 30 April and 1 May respectively

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2010 11:40

Hooray Frumpy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2010 14:35

wow Ali - pretty cool ) must be fab to have him back!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/04/2010 15:22

It is lovely, and we had a nice lunch out but now he's been hauled onto a conference call with his boss.

I am NOT HAPPY, and I'm ranting at him on msn.

There is champagne in the fridge though so all is not lost

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2010 15:45

bad boss

detoxdiva · 23/04/2010 16:48

Dsis is landing tonight - Thai air put on an extra flight today so that cleared 400 or so of the passengers waiting on the standby list

Great news about the others coming home....some mammoth journeys on here

tatt · 23/04/2010 16:51

Friends have a flight back tomorrow - but not with Cyprus Airways. Cyprus airways have been saying no flights available for 2 weeks - then advertising seats on the internet. If I go to Cyprus again that's one airline I won't want to travel with.

Pollyanna · 23/04/2010 21:30

we got home in the early hours too! Had a difficult last few hours on eurostar (business men shushing us as soon as we got on the train) but a lovely english woman lent dd3 her ds which kept her quiet. ds2 (2yo) had a fever for the last 24 hours and was inconsolable on the train (businessman not happy), a couple of people told us how lovely our children were as they left the train which made us feel much better as I was starting to think I had monsters.

and when we got to St Pancras there were no trains to Gatwick (to pick up car).

When we got to Gatwick, car wouldn't start! so dh had to arrange to jump start it while dcs slept on the floor! We finally got home and are now making our way through a huge pile of washing. glad to be home! Tbanks to everyone for their support!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/04/2010 22:42

Pollyanna - glad you are home! That makes me really cross, you paid as much for your tickets as those business people. If they were that bothered about silence and getting work done they should have forked out for first class.

Pollyanna · 23/04/2010 22:47

yes, me too Alibaba (although they weren't working, just chatting)- we were travelling late at night with 5dcs aged 11 and under - we certainly wouldn't choose to do that! I was really pleased that the 2 women (travelling separately) spoke kindly to us. the 2 men made me feel uncomfortable for most of the journey.

northender · 23/04/2010 23:39

Really glad your dp is home fg x

MABS · 24/04/2010 08:45

so glad you back polly x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2010 08:54

polly you must be exhausted - nightmare end. I hope you had a really good nights sleep.

MmeLindt · 24/04/2010 10:02

Glad you made it home, Pollyanna and a on those business men. Glad that there were some nice women on the train too.

violetqueen · 24/04/2010 10:29
