Ruby
sounds good.

Paula
Great, not long now.

I almost slapped a woman today who asserted that if people don't have an extra £500 to 1000 "in a bank account at home" so that they can get themselves out of such a situation, then they have no business going on holiday.

Now, we have thankfully never been in the situation, but I know that many people have to budget carefully to afford a holiday and don't have a lot left as an emergency fund. Should they all stay at home just in case a volcano explodes?

Been sitting in the check in queue at Changi for six hours now. It is chaos! No idea if I will get ona flight despite getting told that we would.

He is Home!!!!!!!!! He looks a bit beat up and smells a bit funny but I don't think I've ever been happier to see him.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/04/2010 17:04

Lou!!! I had hoped you would be winging home by now (or even home courtesy of the ba stand off)

yay Paula

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 21/04/2010 17:13

Very pleased to see more people making it home

DH is getting on a direct flight to Heathrow tommorrow night, yay! So he should be home by about 10am Friday morning I can't wait to see him, less than 48 hours to go!

In the meantime he is having a fine old time, they are being looked after by collegues in the US - lunches and dinners out, trips to the baseball

Mme - isn't that what the limit on my credit card is for? Emergencies like this?

I don't have a holiday cushion easily acccesible! My money works for me when I'm not spending it

DH is in the air! Left Shanghai airport this morning, and is expected to land at about 8 this evening (only 6 days late!). Hopefully he'll be home by about 11.00pm

Today is my birthday. What a lovely present.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 21/04/2010 18:39

Yay! glad he is nearly home. Happy birthday sweetie

moondog · 21/04/2010 18:40

I am stuck in Bangladesh with my kids (came out to see dh who works here).
Due home yesterday but have been told earliest they can get us out is May 10th.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/04/2010 18:52

blimey moondog!

Littlefish, you will be so glad to get him back.

Littlefish · 21/04/2010 19:34

Oh goodness Moondog - that's a very long time. Have you got adequate accommodation?

MmeLindt · 21/04/2010 20:00

Happy Birthday Littlefish, glad that your DH is going to be home in time to raise a glass with you.

Moondog
Shall we send the Navy over to pick you up?

Monty100 · 21/04/2010 20:13

Lou - hope you get on a flight soon.

frumpygrumpy · 21/04/2010 20:23

Oh moondog at least you are with your DH. Awful!

My DP should leave Vancouver tomorrow morning...........we'll see!

Pollyanna · 21/04/2010 20:30

We are in Paris now! we are booked on Eurostar tomorrow from Brussels - sounds as though we could have got a ticket from Paris if we had turned up at the station, but we didn't know that/want to risk it. In the end have had a nice day in Paris today - children extremely excited.

We did feel very scruffy in our skiing gear next to all the chic french people (anna would be choking on her fat free black coffee), but decided to make the most of it.

Nearly home. then need to work out the damage to our credit cards (no emergency fund here!).

We gave you a metaphorical wave Mme L and Mystic Masseuse at the Rail Europe Boutique. Trains were fine from Geneva although there was a very quick change at Lyon that we nearly cocked up, and some snotty people on the TGV who weren't happy with our rabble of children on their nice quiet train.

MmeLindt · 21/04/2010 20:35

Great to hear from you, not long now and you will be home Pollyanna. Did you go up the Eiffel Tower?

noddyholder · 21/04/2010 20:40

Pollyanna so glad you are finally making headway!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/04/2010 20:44

I hope evryone makes it homes soon. This thread is running out of room!

God luck for tomorrow Polly and frumpy.

YanknCock · 21/04/2010 20:53

Sorry for not reading everything. We (DH, me & 7mo DS) just got back home a few hours ago. Was on holiday visiting my family in the USA, should have had a 3 hour stopover to change planes in Amsterdam--but we were stuck there from last Thursday morning until today. We got an overnight ferry to Newcastle that arrived this morning, then 3 trains to get to Liverpool airport to get our car.

The airport wouldn't let us have our luggage, and KLM shut off their phones so we couldn't even find out what was going on with it or getting alternative flights. We booked the ferry on Saturday when our re-booked flight was also cancelled.

I'd say we've spent at least £1500 on hotels, food, transport, and replacement clothes/toiletries.

I've had to buy a new breast pump as mine is in my luggage and I need to pump for my son since I am starting back to work full time--have already missed two days (was supposed to start Monday!).

HandbagAddiction · 21/04/2010 21:32

Oh my goodness Yank, that sounds terrible and not a great start for you if you're supposed to be back at work already.

But fab news that my DH and Alibabas DH will be on their way home soon. They have had a real adventure, although I think the jet lag and stress is really starting to kick in now. DH sounds absolutely exhausted!

Fingers and toes crossed that their flight goes direct to eathrow tomorrow evening and with any luck, they'll be home by lunchtime. I daren't tell the DDs anything in case I jinx it all, and I'll be at work when he gets back, but dd1's face when if he picks her up from school in the afternoon will be an absolute picture! Oh, I am SO happy

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 21/04/2010 21:56

Handbag it's fab isn't it Had a chat with DH on the webcam earlier, DS is only 21 months and he doesn't understand why DH isn't here so seeing him 'inside' the computer has been a big help.

I cannot bloody wait for DH to do bathtime on Friday night, I am not cut out for this single parenting and after this fortnight I have even more admiration for those that do it full time.

Also, more weirdly, I've got 'going on a date' nerves about seeing him on Friday!
