I'm watching on ITV news on digital.

tammybear · 09/07/2005 21:13

my mate just spoke to someone whos in birmingham. according to him, it was just some people making it up and they have been caught.

hercules · 09/07/2005 21:14

what sort of sick people would make up such a thing??

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:14

Broad Street has been closed and all pubs, clubs and bars evacuated.

tammybear · 09/07/2005 21:21

im not sure if its true though, and if theyve got so many police out and still evacuating people, then maybe there is a thread. i really hope not

hercules · 09/07/2005 21:22

let's hope it is a hoax.

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:23

They are obviouisly taking it seriously as apparently there are ambulances and a helicopter etc lined up.

Someone tell my brother to switch his phone on, honestly whats the point of having a mobile if it's switched off.

lemonice · 09/07/2005 21:24

It seems to have moved from a general take care to a complete evacuation of brod Street, Chinatown and Digbeth areas ..it is presumably a threat to an entertainment venue...no one is allowed into the centre..hopefully it will not become an incident...

After all the IRA bombs there was always various scares and threats in other towns and cities following an attack. People were evacuated then to be safe. These things are to be expected for a little while I guess.

Let's hope this is such a false alarm.

marne · 09/07/2005 21:27

at least they are getting people out, aparently they have found 2 packages.

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:28

Oh god

Think my brother is at his girlfriends, thankgod.

tiffini · 09/07/2005 21:31

I always worry about threats to a certain area, in case it is a diversion.

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:32

Thats exactly what I just said to Dp

jayzmummy · 09/07/2005 21:37

Its times like this that I am glad I left the hustle and bustle of city life, to opt for life as a recluse in the little corner of the earth I live in now.

Ive spoken to my sister and they are all in a taxi making their way to the Belfy...she said the city centre is rather terrifying ATM.

lemonice · 09/07/2005 21:39

dp has just come in for his break..apparently another driver dropped off in the centre about 6.00pm and was almost immediately called back to pick them up...

I hate going to the city centre at all unless i'm with someone else, but recently made myself go on my own with Ds.

Things like this out me off it big time though.

Glad you got hold of your sister Jazmummy

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:44

There will be a press conference at 10pm

HappyHuggy · 09/07/2005 21:47

sis just called me from broad street, theyve been evacuated

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:49

Is she going home Huggy ??????

marne · 09/07/2005 21:51

One of the news reporters said the town centre could be closed all night!

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:54

Apparently it was all quite calm until police suddenly told people to go quickly and they all started running.

Rumours of controlled explosions too.

HappyHuggy · 09/07/2005 21:55

Police have told them they have too, she got no choice. Too close to home for comfort.

Police just said they are taking it seriously but cant reveal the nature of the threat

nutcracker · 09/07/2005 21:57

Threat is based on credible intelligence apparently.

HappyHuggy · 09/07/2005 21:58

Grrrrrrrrrr at the scum who do this to people
