I think this thread has been very civilised, considering how poles apart the viewpoints are!

I tried to flounce but got sucked back in 5 minutes later

RTKangaMummy · 06/07/2005 18:09

I think it would be sooooooooo DEFFO BRILL

If in 2012 we found out that one of the people on the podium or even in the opening ceremony with the flag was one of the Mumsnetter sprogs

DEFFO BRILL

SenoraPostrophe · 06/07/2005 18:09

actually...

I quite like the idea of being a selfish bith.

RTKangaMummy · 06/07/2005 18:10

Do you think we will still be here?????????

SoupDragon · 06/07/2005 18:10

I'm not saying I don't enjoy the olympics (I would have been just as happy for anywhere in the same time zone to have won the right to host them though) I just think that it's not going to be as rosey and wonderful for sport as people seem to think.

MarsLady · 06/07/2005 18:11

I do hope that London hosts the Olympics as well as and better than Manchester hosted the Commonwealth Games. The Manchurians did a FANTASTIC job! It was well run, transport was a dream. We really enjoyed visiting.

Once my daughter has won the gold for track events, my son collected gold for 200m and the long jump and my next daughter gold for gymnastics I shall know that it was all worth it!

The DTs can pick up some cash as child labourers handing out leaflets etc.......

I'm not 'sporty' at all, but I think it's great that the UK has won something for a change, and it's also nice to see that the silly 'eurovision' style UK-haters didn't stop us getting something this time.

SenoraPostrophe · 06/07/2005 18:13

kanga - we've already agreed that we'll all still be posting in our seventies

so i guess we'll be here in 2012.

RTKangaMummy · 06/07/2005 18:15

Thanks SP

DEFFO BRILL

MarsLady, your Son can have 200 m, but my Sam gets 1500 OK? He's got good stamina.

Seriously though, we tried to fins him an athletics club and couldn't maybe some funding will get out somewhere now? Despite being without glasses (50 % vision)he won by half a field at the school sports, and OK he may not be an Olympian but he might be!!! He should get a chance to find out, all kids should.

Twiglett · 06/07/2005 18:17

Not taking part in this debate but have to say MARSLADY

Manchurians???? WTF???

MANCUNIANS

MarsLady · 06/07/2005 18:18

That's ok, like me DS1 has no ability when it comes to long distances. It's all yours. I think that your DS will do the country proud in the 1500m.

I just think that it is all so exciting!!!!!!!!

MarsLady · 06/07/2005 18:20

Sorry Twiggy. Even as I was writing it I was thinking it was wrong and then I figured I'd be forgiven cos I said how FANTASTICALLY they hosted the Commonwealth Games!

So much for thinking we could escape the hassle by going away during the olympics. DH's trip home tonight was delayed by everything being mucked up by celebrations. Apparently the chaos starts now, and carries on for seven years. Gr.

Is there a minimum age for entering the Olympics, my DS will be 17 is that too young or should he start training now?
