My DD. Gold medalist. 100 Meter Egg amd Spoon. London 2012.

handlemecarefully · 06/07/2005 14:47

is she good enough possibly FIMAC?

aloha · 06/07/2005 14:48

I'm all for nice things in life but not more horrible, tedious running & jumping! Can you tell i hate sport?

FIMAC1 · 06/07/2005 14:48

Dunno - first competition on Sunday - she only started 6 months ago but is very proud of the fact she can swim 1 and half lengths underwater lol - plus do lots of other fancy 'figure' work of course but that is what she is most proud of

SenoraPostrophe · 06/07/2005 14:48

no offence meant fimac.

It is fun to watch, but I wish they would stop grinning manically for 5 seconds here and there.

Gizmo · 06/07/2005 14:50

Aloha, just a thought - have you seen how much you can rent your house out for if it's well placed for sporting events?

Could probably fund many nice trips to St Lucia

Or have you already had this conversation further down the thread?

handlemecarefully · 06/07/2005 14:50

Bless her!

yingers74 · 06/07/2005 14:51

but we are soooo good at being cynical!

Oh well, any body like to help us londoners pay our increased council tax bill? I imagine that if I was an east londoner I would be less annoyed at the costs, I live a non grand part of west london which won't benefit. As mentioned before I think londoners would be less cynical if we all got discounted tickets!!!!

aloha · 06/07/2005 14:51

i am so stuffed if my kids turn out to be christian sports fans....i'll have to trade them in....

snafu · 06/07/2005 14:53

Surely you can stretch to an extra 34p a week, yingers?

northerner · 06/07/2005 14:53

I think it's amazing that the UK are to host something as amazing as this.

It will do wonders for morale in this country, and I bet all of you cynics will be loving it when the time comes.

handlemecarefully · 06/07/2005 14:54

Oh Aloha - you're terrible

yingers74 · 06/07/2005 14:54

But I could use that for chocolate instead?

I know it is petty but our council is one of those money slips through fingers types, I already pay over 200 a month so am loathe to stretch any further!!!!

donations of chocolate bars will sweeten the pill!

snafu · 06/07/2005 14:55

According to radio London they're calling it the Walnut Whip tax...

yingers74 · 06/07/2005 14:56

he he he, I am actually quite looking forward to it though as my dd and my bump will be old enough to enjoy it too, however, I just LOVE being a cynic too and anything to annoy the mayor of london!

yingers74 · 06/07/2005 14:58

feel for all those walnut whip lovers! I bet it turns out to be a walnut whip, twix and cheese and onion crisp tax!

zubb · 06/07/2005 14:58

Venues all over London will be used. The focus is East London as the main stadium, the aquatic centre and the olympic village will be there. They will also use Lords, Regents Park, Hyde Park, Wimbledon, Wembley, Broxbourne (herts?), Greenwich, The Dome and the beach volleyball will be in Horse Guards Parade!

bundle · 06/07/2005 15:02

personally I loved the curling event at the last winter olympics, despite being the most unsporty person i know

beatie · 06/07/2005 15:04

Please tell me where you can buy chocolate for 34 pence these days

aloha · 06/07/2005 15:10

Now, a chocolate olympics...that's a different thing altogether... ds would ADORE that.

compo · 06/07/2005 15:12

and the Olympic village will be in Stratford

beatie · 06/07/2005 15:13

I may well be a contender for a chocolate event. I'm sure I could still manage it at 38.

beatie · 06/07/2005 15:13

Oh no, that sounded rude.

Twiga · 06/07/2005 15:14

Oh great! Was out in town when this was announced, wandered how it had gone - knew mn would have the answer!

yingers74 · 06/07/2005 15:14

just saw lots of unhappy french people in paris, saying the french are the best. The presenter did not help matters by saying 'but you didn't win'!!!!

Saying the the two french people he interviewed said 'well life is unfair, we are dissappointed but well done to london'. I felt for them!

and a big yes to the chocolate olympics!
