Rapist may be out in as little as 4 years

'A 16-year-old schoolboy who raped a teacher has been given a life sentence at the Old Bailey.

The judge told the youth that he had violated the teacher's classroom - her place of safety - and had left her "physically and mentally scarred".

He said he agreed with a doctor who said his behaviour suggested that he had planned or rehearsed the rape in a fantasy.

The youth, who had pleaded guilty to rape at an earlier hearing, will be eligible for parole after serving four-and-a-half years.

But he will not be released until doctors consider he is no longer a danger.

The teenager, from south London, was 15 when he attacked the 28-year-old teacher on her second day at a central London school in September last year.

Brendan Kelly, prosecuting, said the teacher was in her classroom when she was grabbed round her neck and pulled to the back of the room.

The court was told that the 5ft 11in, powerfully-built teenager head-butted and threatened to kill the woman as she fought him off.

But she was overpowered by the pupil and sexually assaulted. After the attack, the teacher ran naked to the headteacher's office.

Describing the impact of the assault on the victim, Mr Kelly said: "The effect of this attack upon her has been devastating.

"Since the incident she has been unable to teach. She anticipates that once 'all this' has been put to bed she proposes to go back on a trial period - not to the school in question, she will go to another school.

"Her confidence has been devastated, her social life equally has been devastated. She lives in fear of returning to her vocation."

Judge Moss lifted a court order protecting the youth's identity but stayed this until Friday afternoon after the defence said it wanted the decision reviewed by the High Court.

He ordered that Westminster City Boys School, central London, where the teacher was attacked after working only two days in September last year, could be identified.

After the case, the teacher said: "I was very glad to be alive because I did not think I would be.

"I honestly thought that I was going to be murdered, on top of everything else."

She said she is now trying to rebuild her life. '

Make you feel all nice and safe, doesn't it?

he could be out in as little as four years. It makes me feel sick.

no worries love.

I can see where you are coming from totally. But I just like to think maybe we can help people... I do think some people may be beyond help but I hope that not all...

That is all I am trying to say.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:19

i just dont think some people can be helped though, and i dont think they deserve to be either.

(am typing slower now and alothough you cant get tone of voice in writing i hope you know im no longer shouting)

Sorry, havent read the whole thread but how on earth can you have an rational arguement when you start discussing evil as an actual thing? It's not real so is no justification for an arguement. This thread reminds me of the Jamie Bulger one

hercules · 05/07/2005 22:34

What sort of society would you like to live in, HappyHuggy?

hercules · 05/07/2005 22:35

Weren't people burnt once for containing evil?

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:40

i believe that people can be evil hercules, and that if you commit acrime then the punishment should fit it.

Why cant people be evil?

hercules · 05/07/2005 22:40

So, what is "evil"?

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:44

evil is having no love inside you, no copassion, no thought for others, evil id having the capability to commit crimes like murder and rape.

why defend rapists? why pax for them to be looked after, fed and clothed?

aloha · 05/07/2005 22:47

Some of the stuff on this thread makes me feel ill. What vile fantasies. Jesus, what kind of society would this be.
Agree with Cod, 100%.
Of course this boy with his history should not have been in school at all. The teacher should never, ever been in a position where she could have been alone with a boy like this. Things must change, clearly, to protect both teachers and all members of the public.
His father was extremely violent. He beat up the boy's mother, and I'm sure this is the tip of the iceberg.
As for the 'four years' - total tabloid hype IMO. He got a very unusual indeterminate sentence. He could be in for the rest of his life. It's not likely, but more likely than release in four years from everything I have seen.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:53

not vile fantasis ahola - now rape, thats a vile fantasy.

and again i stand by my idea of justice.

hercules · 05/07/2005 22:53

Just because i dont believe in branding doesnt mean I am defending rapists. I do defend human beings who are abused though and believe that rehabiliation along with incarcaration is far more civilised than believing in tabloid headlines.

hercules · 05/07/2005 22:54

WOuld you really want to live in a society like that? Isnt there a saying about judging a society on how it treats it's prisoners?

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:56

i would prefer to live in a society where rapists are branded rapist yes.

I would quite happily torture and kill a rapist and still be able to sleep at night, of course i would

the dirty perverted scum need shooting

hercules · 05/07/2005 22:56

Well, we are different people then.

aloha · 05/07/2005 22:57

Vile and disgusting fantasies. I won't be returning to this thread as it is the stuff of nightmares.

Caligula · 05/07/2005 22:58

The problem with that of course, is that if rapists knew they would get the same sentence as murderers (whether that's the death penalty or life imprisonment), they'd have more of an incentive to murder their victims. (After all, if a victim is dead, she can't bear witness, can she?)

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:58

and rape isnt the stuff of nightmares?

Gomez · 05/07/2005 22:58

The view is however that they are not human Hercules therefore don't count.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:59

yep, thats my view and i stand by it.

hercules · 05/07/2005 22:59

No one is saying rape isnt a terrible thing.

hercules · 05/07/2005 23:00

Okay, well we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 23:02

fair point caligua
