Rapist may be out in as little as 4 years

'A 16-year-old schoolboy who raped a teacher has been given a life sentence at the Old Bailey.

The judge told the youth that he had violated the teacher's classroom - her place of safety - and had left her "physically and mentally scarred".

He said he agreed with a doctor who said his behaviour suggested that he had planned or rehearsed the rape in a fantasy.

The youth, who had pleaded guilty to rape at an earlier hearing, will be eligible for parole after serving four-and-a-half years.

But he will not be released until doctors consider he is no longer a danger.

The teenager, from south London, was 15 when he attacked the 28-year-old teacher on her second day at a central London school in September last year.

Brendan Kelly, prosecuting, said the teacher was in her classroom when she was grabbed round her neck and pulled to the back of the room.

The court was told that the 5ft 11in, powerfully-built teenager head-butted and threatened to kill the woman as she fought him off.

But she was overpowered by the pupil and sexually assaulted. After the attack, the teacher ran naked to the headteacher's office.

Describing the impact of the assault on the victim, Mr Kelly said: "The effect of this attack upon her has been devastating.

"Since the incident she has been unable to teach. She anticipates that once 'all this' has been put to bed she proposes to go back on a trial period - not to the school in question, she will go to another school.

"Her confidence has been devastated, her social life equally has been devastated. She lives in fear of returning to her vocation."

Judge Moss lifted a court order protecting the youth's identity but stayed this until Friday afternoon after the defence said it wanted the decision reviewed by the High Court.

He ordered that Westminster City Boys School, central London, where the teacher was attacked after working only two days in September last year, could be identified.

After the case, the teacher said: "I was very glad to be alive because I did not think I would be.

"I honestly thought that I was going to be murdered, on top of everything else."

She said she is now trying to rebuild her life. '

Make you feel all nice and safe, doesn't it?

he could be out in as little as four years. It makes me feel sick.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 20:59

how sanctimonious is that. youve pissed me right off, i cant even put it into words

fishfinger · 05/07/2005 21:00

happy huggy I think you are a man
you talk enough bollocks

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:01

how can you possible compare any of that to rape?????????

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:02

why the fuck would you think im a man?

Gomez · 05/07/2005 21:06

I am in NO way comparing any of those offences to rape or sexual assault. But I also think there is no place in OUR society for the type of behaviour that was suggested earlier.

If you think the people were given the rights to act as suggested towards rapists that they would stop there? To SOME people theft, teenage sex or adultry is no different to rape and so they would wish to punish as they see fit too.

Caligula · 05/07/2005 21:06

I think we need to remember that most rapes are committed not by violent maniacs, but by regular guys like our fathers, uncles, brothers, husbands and sons. Rapists aren't a different species to other men.

Gomez · 05/07/2005 21:07

The phrase 'no different' is wrong, I mean 'as serious as' I suppose.

Again these are not my beliefs but they will be held by others.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:10

it makes me feel sick to think that these dirty twisted perverts are suppossedly 'rehibilitated' and then released back into society.

No rapist arnt a different species but they are evil and dont deserve the luxery of life

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:11

and i still want to know why you think i talk bollocks cod?

Can everyone please remember the sensitive nature of this thread! It is a controversial subject which need treating as such - Please think before you type - please!!!!

happymerryberries · 05/07/2005 21:19

Life or until they are considered not to be a risk any more (be that by nature of treatment or age)

essbee, I think any sentence which removes the rapist from harming anyone
So, life incarceration etc
I don't really think castration is a viable option as I think the rapist would still assault women, just not in an obviously "sexual" manner

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:27

dealth penilty

Hulababy · 05/07/2005 21:30

Not long enough

That poor teacher has to live with that forever; perhaps bnever returning to her chosen career again as a result.

hmb - I agree; the teacher should NOT have been put in that position at all. As you know, I work in a prison. Our sex offenders (no matter how - right words??? - light? a crime - not right word I know but can't think) are labelled on their files in such a way that all staff are aware that they should be vigilant around them, and they are not allowed to be in a class when a female is teaching, or to be with a female alone. For example, if have to have an officer present with me if I am interviewing such a man/youth. If I am protected, then other teachers (regardless of their location) should be.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:33

and im still waiting for cod to explain herself?

cod?????

mytwopenceworth · 05/07/2005 21:34

lets not forget that some people with extreme views and fantasies of death of a rapist have good reason to hate. certainly, it takes a better woman than i to be able to not wish rapists all manner of horrible and painful torture. what they put you thru you never get over and you are changed for your whole life. i am so so proud of any woman who manages to somehow deal in a way that allows her to move past the hate and deathwishing, but i sure as hell dont know how they do it. i think certain people deserve a terrible fate, rapists and paedophiles to name 2. i hate rapists and i know for a fact if my child was the victim of a paedophile i would be out for some baseball bat justice and if that attitude would lead to the breakdown of civilised society, let me be the first to say tough luck.

weesaidie · 05/07/2005 21:42

Wow. Some very harsh views expressed here.

I am against death penalty and don't think that anyone should have the power to end someones life like that.

Obviously rape is a terrible crime and must be punished, imprisonment for a long time and hopefully rehabilitation (sorry but I don't think it is impossible) but some of the suggestions here are horrendous IMHO, as many others have said.

I am glad we live in a society where that sort of 'justice' is not tolerated.

Agree with wordsmith et al, whom all said so better than me!

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:48

horrendous suggestions? try living through rape and thentell me your definition of horrendous

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 21:51

how can it be possible to rehibilitate evil?

weesaidie · 05/07/2005 22:00

Sorry, I haven't been there, just expressing my views and two wrongs don't make a right IMHO.

I don't know about the evil thing I am afraid, but as others have said SOME rapists have been very very damaged so perhaps they can be helped. Not just shot.

I may be wrong there though and I don't want to upset you HH.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:01

rapists damaged?????

weesaidie · 05/07/2005 22:06

As children???? Abused perhaps???? As others have said????

Sorry, will leave this be. Obviously I disagree with you and that is fine.

HappyHuggy · 05/07/2005 22:09

sorry sadie
