bonkerz · 13/01/2010 23:22

moondog · 13/01/2010 23:30

Really?
I am a bit slow then.

Actually, the comments he made has made me really warm to Nick Clegg. He strikes me as a good bloke.

GrumpyWhenWoken · 13/01/2010 23:36

@ Bonkerz I knew she looked familiar!

I think her photo looked OK

At least she doesn't look like this

mehdismummy · 13/01/2010 23:41

she is on the same bus though!

MarineIguana · 14/01/2010 08:48

Ooh why was my last message deleted?? Was about Tracy Hogg not GF... and I've really tried not to be libellous...

Bonsoir · 14/01/2010 09:02

If someone has no qualifications in childcare or medicine and no children herself, then I definitely think it is quite legitimate to dig into her past for clues as to why she might have some particular life experience that would give legitimacy and credibility to her claims.

I don't think anyone would bother to dig into Penelope Leach's life because her qualifications and expertise speak for themselves (whether or not you agree with her stance).

DitaVonCheese · 14/01/2010 09:23

One of her books definitely says that tiny babies should be "left to settle for up to 20 minutes". It might be an old version as I got it from a charity shop, but that can certainly be interpreted as allowing a baby to cry itself to sleep (that's how my SIL seems to read it anyway).

Agree that it's an unpleasant article though.

RamblingRosa · 14/01/2010 09:53

Morning Paper: "In the pictures Andrew M Brown is noticeably bald ? one wonders just how bald.

Hmmm Andrew? "

Scottish Mummy: "so had gf been a tidy bit of fluff looker would you all like her more

maybe get lily cole to write your parenting books.shes bonnie"

PMSL . Couldn't have put it better. I'm a bit shocked by all the unsisterly piss-taking of another woman's looks. I can't bear the GF style of child rearing but how she looks has absolutely no bearing on it.

moondog · 14/01/2010 10:35

We didn't lose our brains with the afterbirth. The crucial issue with any intervention is access to scientific evidence allows an individual to separate empirically validated treatments from those which may make ?common sense? but that may not provide benefit efficiently or effectively.

paisleyleaf · 14/01/2010 12:24

this is quite funny

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/01/2010 12:50

This thread has made me laugh . I bet MNHQ is quivering this morning though!

TheCrackFox · 14/01/2010 12:55

I think MNHQ should relax as SHMNBN will be far too busy suing this lot

fruitful · 14/01/2010 13:19

That photo always makes me think of this

Rindercella · 14/01/2010 13:21

Paisley, thanks for the FT link - it's very funny

tethersend · 14/01/2010 13:27

Message deleted by Mumsnet

(Thought I'd save them the trouble)

poorbuthappy · 14/01/2010 13:29

Why did I think she was tall, slim with long dark hair??? Who am I getting her confused with????

Ummmm...actually this is quite unnerving cos I've thought this for years...

MamaGoblin · 14/01/2010 14:14

poorbuthappy - I dunno - Angelina Jolie??

I don't like all these attacks on her looks - above all, from other women. God knows, I'm no fan of the woman, but it's unacceptable to have a go at her appearance, and totally irrelevant to a discussion of her childcare methods. Um ... which we're not allowed to have ...

greenday · 14/01/2010 14:28

Are the messages that have been deleted by Mumsnet deleted because they spelt out SWMNBN's name out?

Or were they something offensive? Gee, I wish I read this thread earlier!

edam · 14/01/2010 14:40

Scottishmummy - the writer's background is relevant, apparently.

No-one can say any more than that in public.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/01/2010 14:44

I always thought she'd look a bit hospital matronesque like a thin Hattie Jaques(sp) IYSWIM. No idea why I thought this just something in my head told me to read her books in that tone of voice (in my head I mean I didn't read them out loud or anything) OH I think I'd better shut up now I sound like a loon.....

scottishmummy · 14/01/2010 18:33

well edam someone told me a scurrilous rumour about gf today i cant repeat, off for a big drink (of tea) now
