Yikes

She has a TWIN

MumOfAPickle · 13/01/2010 22:30

I was shocked when I saw that photo! I agree that it doesn't matter what she looks like but still, I imagined something very different - more like that 10 years younger woman.

Her methods weren't for me at all, I flicked through the book at a friends and pissed myself

I'll just never forget the same friend nearly in tears because her lovely 5 week old DS was sleeping peacefully because "he shouldn't be asleep now - oh god how can I wake him up?"

I suppose I jusst thought she'd be a bit, sort of, neater what with the control thing...

scottishmummy · 13/01/2010 22:35

so had gf been a tidy bit of fluff looker would you all like her more

maybe get lily cole to write your parenting books.shes bonnie

GrumpyWhenWoken · 13/01/2010 22:36

First time I've seen a picture too, for some reason I thought she was in her 60's.

Flibbertyjibbet · 13/01/2010 22:40

Grrr the link in the Op won't work.

I couldn't possibly comment on the methods of any child care guru.

But I will say that after reading this thread

I heart Nick Clegg!!

edam · 13/01/2010 22:41

The article is written by "Andrew M Brown, a writer specialising in the influence of addiction and substance abuse on culture and celebrities"

wahwah · 13/01/2010 22:43

I had my first ever deleted post when I saw a picture of this woman way back when.

Re this woman, I do think her past is fair game. Given the lack of research evidence for her methods, her strategies must have come from somewhere- and it looks like she experienced significant early difficulties. Now I would ordinarily feel sorry for her, but somehow she has managed to persuade other parents to replicate this experience with their own children. Disclaimer-if you have followed her methods successfully, then your children are probably fine.

scottishmummy · 13/01/2010 22:46

think your overstating it edam.cut&paste from newspaper isnt salacious is it.not a hidden sourced searched secret.was plainly there on top of copy

TheCrackFox · 13/01/2010 22:51

Her past is completely fair game as she published an autobiography.

dawntigga · 13/01/2010 22:52

You put yourself out as a self styled expert on something like child raising and you have to expect to be examined quite closely. To do otherwise is at best naive.

CaptainUnderpants · 13/01/2010 22:55

Alot more people are talking about how good Nick Clegg is for having spoken about his parenting experience then saying ' I'm not going to vote for Lim Dem '

an example here from another website

CaptainUnderpants · 13/01/2010 22:56

Lim dem ? Lib Dem

SpookyMadMummy · 13/01/2010 22:57

Ooh finally a use for

Wonderstuff · 13/01/2010 22:58

They would never ponder over how fat a male author was

scottishmummy · 13/01/2010 23:02

deriding her solely on appearance is mean.her writings and opining is fair game, after all she is an author.

her appearance is not fair game for comment.she isnt a model or speak your weight schleb

CaptainUnderpants · 13/01/2010 23:03

I dont really care what she looks like
unless she looked like this

AvrilH · 13/01/2010 23:04

That was a snidey nasty article.

"Plenty of mothers feel that leaving tiny babies to cry, and not feeding them when they?re hungry, is cruel. "

GF does not advocate not feeding hungry babies, quite the opposite. IIRC, nor do current issues of her book advocate leaving tiny babies to cry at all - she does claim that if inappropriate sleep associations are established sleep training might be necessary - presumably meaning CC. In some cases, I think she will be right.

I am no GF fan, but was bought the book by my mother and read it from curiosity. I was really surprised at how different it was to the MN version.

scottishmummy · 13/01/2010 23:06

many on mn cant objectively discuss gf.red mist descends and they start barking at the moon

moondog · 13/01/2010 23:08

Her response to Nick Clegg was astonishing wasn't it?
If someone doesn't agree with what you say, so what?

CaptainUnderpants · 13/01/2010 23:11

Whether you agree with her methods or not , yes her response to Nick Clegg was rather.. er well .. strange ( could put it in stronger terms but can't afford libel case at moment )

bonkerz · 13/01/2010 23:14

www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/gigglebiz/watch/gailforcefacts/

here are some amazing facts about GF

moondog · 13/01/2010 23:16

Where have you been Bonkerz?
Long time, no see.

cory · 13/01/2010 23:16

agree appearance is irrelevant and lots of people swear by her methods- I still can't get over her response to Clegg

atlantis · 13/01/2010 23:17

Whats wrong with her picture?

At least she doesn't look like this

tartyhighheels · 13/01/2010 23:18

I am not fond of her methods and have no routines..... my life fits around my children rather than leaving them on their own when what they really need is physical closeness. She has got too big for her boots and shows her ridiculous naivete by wading into the political arena. My husband says she is a 'brute', added to that, she looks like she is melting...... eeewww!
