edam · 14/01/2010 19:06

yup, that's the idea, scottishmummy.

mrsjuan · 14/01/2010 19:28

This has probably been done to death but can someone please explain exactly what and why we are not allowed to discuss?

Obviously we can't make personal attacks but why on earth can't we have a rational debate about her methods?

morningpaper · 14/01/2010 19:30

yes it's true SM

she is not a natural blonde

CaptainUnderpants · 14/01/2010 19:31

mrsjuan because this happens

mrsjuan · 14/01/2010 19:39

Yes yes - I know about that but still don't understand why we can't discuss it like we'd discuss any other book. Hey ho.

Have to say these comments from that article made me spit my tea out though:

"bore the defamatory meaning that our client has unpleasant and unhygienic personal habits".

"says our client straps babies to rockets and fires them into south Lebanon".

CaptainUnderpants · 14/01/2010 19:43

I think its because its been done and since 'that incident 'people have avoided it and actually have no wish to discuss her methods. I may be wrong but thats what I feel.

However I dont think there is anything to stop someone starting a new thread in the appropriate topic , although there may be alot of

scottishmummy · 14/01/2010 19:44

mrsJ many on mn cant objectively discuss gf.red mist descends and they start barking at the moon

DuelingFanjo · 14/01/2010 19:45

PMSL at tethersend

mrsjuan · 14/01/2010 20:00

Fair enough - I can see why people wouldn't want to drag it all up again but they'll always be new people popping up - people don't stop having babies just because they might offend SWMNBN.

IloveNickClegg · 14/01/2010 20:15

People dont really care if they offend GF , GF cares that she is offended and that is where the problem lies FYSWIM

mrsjuan · 14/01/2010 20:45

Touchy isn't she?

amulg · 14/01/2010 21:49

Every thing about this childless woman and her so called advice offends me.
One hardly knows where to start.

Having no baby of her own she can have NO idea of the emotional bond of a mother and baby.

Being a nanny/maternity nurse is nowhere near having the ability to MOTHER a child.
Mothering a child is totally different to attending to a babies needs.

A mother is biologically driven by love and a primitive desire to nurture her child.

Every type of care pours from her with love and desire to comfort console and MOTHER her child.

No 'maternity nurse', nanny or nursery can come close to the same level of intense care
that every baby needs and deserves.

Anyone can change a nappy and bottle feed a baby. You simply cannot buy the love and care of a mother in a bookshop or elsewhere.

WinkyWinkola · 14/01/2010 22:09

GF offends me too. I think she's ridiculous.

But "Every type of care pours from her with love and desire to comfort console and MOTHER her child." is really not always the case.

It makes mothers sounds like the worst kind of martyrs.

edam · 14/01/2010 22:28

Yeah, but there is a undeniable physiological and emotional bond between mother and newborn that means that mother's response to her newborn's cries is just not comparable at all to that of a nanny. A crying baby does not raise the nanny's stress hormone levels in the same way it does the mother. Nor does the baby's cry cause milk to leak from the nanny.

MUCH easier for hard-hearted Hannah to ignore a child than it is for the mother - biology and evolution is drives us to comfort our babies. And there's a reason for that. Which GF has made millions out of denying.

edam · 14/01/2010 22:29

is oops!

Heated · 14/01/2010 22:33

Wonder what % of her income goes on legal proceedings?

scottishmummy · 14/01/2010 22:37

Wonder what % of some mnetters income will go on legal proceedings? if some of you carry on mumping

ilovepiccolina · 14/01/2010 22:41

Amen to amulg & edam. So true.

HinnyPet · 14/01/2010 23:08

That SWMNBN v MN article from 2006 says she's sold half a million copies, not 2 million, and I have burned two, so where's the rest .... has SWMNBN or publicist invented that figure?

IloveNickClegg · 15/01/2010 07:07

Anything that could be seen as libelous will be deleted by MN , no doubt they are keeping a close eye on this thread.

We should be able to freely discuss any methods of bringin up our children as we are the parents whether we agree with a 'guru' or not.

Taking libel action in court becuse someones looks are discussed would be interesting . surely the offended party would have to appear in court and prove that the matter was untrue - could be interesting .

the constant threat of libel action because someone else dares to speak out gainast them constitutes a form of bullying .

I have mentioned no names so am talking in the general sense.

Romanarama · 15/01/2010 07:22

I think she sounds desperately insecure - maybe because of not having her own children? But it's unfair to keep saying she says you should leave the baby to cry - she advocates really detailed planned routines with the aim of having a baby who's always happy and never cries. Fine not to agree with all the 'have a piece of toast at 7.48am' nonsense stuff, but I find she's constantly misrepresented, perhaps because she comes across as vain and offputting.

MmeLindt · 15/01/2010 07:34

A person can give advice on childcare and parenting without being a parent but there is a basic emotional pull that a non-parent will just not understand.

Until I first held my DD, I never knew such total all encompassing love. I love my DH, I love my parents, I love my brother but the love that I have for my children is different and has to be felt to be understood.

Her looks, however, should not be up for discussion. Has anyone ever said, 'Gosh, Salman Rushdie is a bit of a porker, wont be buying his books anymore'?

Whether or not you agree with her parenting advice (and for the record, I do not) I don't think that there are many who would say that her reaction to Nick Clegg's comments were wise.

He has likely won even more voters.

IloveNickClegg · 15/01/2010 07:40

Dont people make comments about Salman Rusdie looks because of all the dolly birds he keeps pulling ? I thought they did.

MmeLindt · 15/01/2010 07:54

Perhaps Rushdie was a bad example, he was the first male author who came to mind for some reason. It may be commented on in a 'How the hell did he pull her?' kind of way.

Whereas the comment in that article was gratuitous. It had absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand.

KimiLivesInStarbucks · 15/01/2010 07:57

Good to see Les Dawson looking so well however I had no idea he was a transvestite
