suprised as this will affect us
wonder if they will all be allowed over here now.
can we keep taking all these people, considering the goverment is talking about cutting education due to lack of money. it isn't like they are fleeing a war torn country.

donnie;...i'm not being ironic at all, i have never said that the immigrants living here now should be sent back to wherever they came from...i haven't said that at all, i've said we shouldn't take anymore.....what is it you don't get..?

so it's true that 80% of Afghans support the taliban is it..? do you think it's ok then to let taliban supporting Afghans into this country to live..?....a yes or no answer will do.

pofacedandproud · 25/09/2009 11:59

oh so now immigration in the 50s led directly to an increase in crime? Right...

MillyMollyMoo · 25/09/2009 12:49

An increase in people would naturally lead to an increase in crime where ever the numbers came from but yes people have different values, I wonder how all the do gooders will feel if it's their daughter raped because of that difference.

noddyholder · 25/09/2009 13:00

I am giving this a miss now for obvious reasons but I am sickened literally by these comments. The inability to see this as bigotry and racism coupled with the pure ignorance is unbelievable (but hardly surprising).

donnie · 25/09/2009 13:05

Me too Noddyholder. I feel the same.

pofacedandproud · 25/09/2009 13:05

MMM that is a disgusting thing to say.

donnie · 25/09/2009 13:10

MMM you appear to be saying it would be worse for my dd to be raped by an immigrant than by a nice British white boy. Are you saying this?

Or are you just saying immigrants are more likely to commit rape?

either way you are unbelievable.

This thread is now just a voice for racism.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 25/09/2009 13:14

Daftpunk, 20 years ago the Irish were being stereotyped as lazy benefit claimants, firing out huge families in council houses and supporting, er, terrorist organisations.
Can you not maybe just open your mind a teensy bit to the possibility that the other stereotypes in your head are as sensible as that one?

daftpunk · 25/09/2009 13:35

i agree with you,...and trust me, re; terrorism....catholics in this country suffered....

alot of anti-Irish crap going on.

daftpunk · 25/09/2009 13:37

and if you actually read what i've said...i haven't said i want people sent back...i have said i don't want anymore immigrants coming here....we have enough.

noddy I agree the ignorance is mind boggling, especially where people don't seem to get the long term affect of having a load of illegal immigrants forced on us.
strange how Donnie hasn't yet answered me

But there's a difference between racism and anti Islamic feeling. Islam isn't a race. I freely admit there is a lot about Islam that I feel very very uncomfortable about, but (being married to a black man myself) that doesn't make people who also feel negative about Islam necessarily racist.

Not sure that makes sense, but in a nutshell, no one can change their skin colour or whateve and nor should anyone feel it necessary, but religion is a whole different ballgame.

who are these anti's??
why can't people say they don't aggree with something with out being called racist.

OP posts:
scaryteacher · 25/09/2009 19:05

Rather than an anti-Islamic feeling Riven I think it may be an anti extremist/fundamentalist Muslim feeling. There is a difference.

TwoIfBySea · 25/09/2009 20:16

This is why there is no reasonable discussion on the matter of illegal immigrants because as soon as the subject starts then people begin to feel it is either racist or anti-muslim or whatever.

Then the discussion stops.

And the problem continues.

And will keep continuing until we stop going round in circles.

mumblechum · 25/09/2009 20:30

Exactly.

mrsruffallo · 25/09/2009 20:31

I can't find any racist or anti islamic views on this thread.
It's important that we discuss immigration and the changes it brings to our society. Or is it because most large groups of immigrants settle in the poorer parts of the country that it doesn't really matter?

mumblechum · 25/09/2009 20:36

And it surely must be common sense that, in addition to our homegrown terrorists, letting in a lot of Afghans who are likely to support the Taleban and all the other negative aspects of Islam is not a good idea.

I personally don't think our soldiers should be in Afghanistan, not because I think they're evil imperialist monsters as some would paint them, in fact they seem to spend most of their time trying to save the population from roadside IEDs. I think they should come out because the culture there is so totally different to ours that we're wasting our time trying to impose our ideals of justice and peace there and the price that we're paying for trying is too high.

daftpunk · 25/09/2009 20:45

totally agree mumblechum.....

TwoIfBySea · 25/09/2009 20:55

agreed mumblechum

Riven I don't agree that supporting the Tabiban is like similar to the way we support a political party.

None of our political parties think it's perfectly acceptable to murder people that don't share their views and positively encourage their supporters to do so.

I don't think Taliban supporters that came to live here would automatically become terrorists - but it's a distinct possibility as we've seen time and time again in the past few years. I think it's a risk we shouldn't be taking. If a refugee supports an organisation that openly despise the west then I don't see why we should have them here or - for that matter - why they'd want to be here, unless it is to cause harm.

daftpunk · 26/09/2009 08:56

it's impossible to have a debate with you Riven...not just you, noddyholder, donnie..

it's like talking to a brick wall.
