Model with flabby tummy shocks the world

According to the Daily Mail

How sad is that? That we are so used to the airbrushed perfection of models that a tiny pic of a normal woman causes such a fuss.

She is 5ft 11in and 12 1/2st and is considered too big to model plus sizes

I think she looks fab. I have a wee tummy just like hers and she has made me feel much better about it.

I think she looks great too! I can't believe anyone would think she was fat!

MmeLindt · 03/09/2009 08:42

I do agree with Anna (with gritted teeth) that having attractive, slim women around you affects the way you feel about your own body. Since movingto Geneva I have upped my game in respect of how I look when I leave the house. The women here are very chic. Even the mums of 3 or 4 dc doing the school run.

It does make me very self concious of my being slightly overweight.

Agree MP...I thought she perhaps had lost quite a bit of weight, hence the slightly flappy roll of skin and stretch marks. I think she looks perfectly lovely and normal though.

llareggub · 03/09/2009 08:42

I used to swim 12 hours a week as a teenager and ski for at least 2 hours. I don't think I could have done any more exercise and find time for school. I had a little roll of fat just like that and nothing would shift it.

I even resorted to Weight Watchers in an attempt to shift it and ended up getting very obsessive about my weight. Luckily for me my father noticed and pulled me out of it.

I'd love to look like that model.

BonsoirAnna · 03/09/2009 08:42

Why do you want to feel better about yourself by identifying with overweight women?

Personally I feel better about myself when I am healthy!

SpawnChorus · 03/09/2009 08:45

BA - is she overweight? I thought she was within the healthy BMI range? Which is more than can be said for 99.9% of professional models. I wonder if you are as disapproving of them?

NoGoodNicknamesLeft · 03/09/2009 08:45
  • "The trouble is, when you are surrounded by overweight people on a daily basis, you start to think that overweight is normal".

Aye, well, the reverse is also true. Which seems to be part of the issue with size-zero models - they think it's normal. Everything in moderation.

BonsoirAnna · 03/09/2009 08:47

Healthy BMI for normal framed women is 18.5 to 23.

please reference. everywhere I look it's 18.5 to under 25

tobago04 · 03/09/2009 08:50

Well my BMI is 20 and i still have a tummy like that,so should i starve myself til it's gone?

KSal · 03/09/2009 08:51

i am also 5'11" and weigh 12.5 stone and that picture has just made me feel really good! i think she looks great and as a couple of you have already said she's not fecking overweight!!!

just because 12.5 stone sounds a lot, you have to take into account the height and her bmi is within normal range.

again BonsoirAnna... she's categorically not overweight the most she needs to do is some sit-ups

grrr

noddyholder · 03/09/2009 08:51

BA you really are going to have to post some pics of your perfect life soon as we are not going to believe you otherwise! I agree french women look fab in their clothes but facially haggard old witches!(in general)not as pretty as english women a lot harder and wrinkly which no amount of dieting can fix

PlumpRumpSoggyBaps · 03/09/2009 08:52

There's nothing wrong with wanting to look healthy.

As this woman does. She doesn't look overwieght by any means. The bmi calculator is ok to a certain degree but if you have more muscle then it can be way out. At the weight she is, given that she is still quite slim looking, she probably has quite well toned muscles.

The skin roll is a little unusual for such a young girl, but as others have said, will disappear when she stands up, as indeed mine does. However I am twice her age and have had two children and didn't have it when I was 20, so I do wonder if she's perhaps lost a lot of weight in the past.

But that's all irrelevant really. The point is that she looks neither overweight nor unhealthy.

As for the ladies in Paris- well, unless they're walking around in their underwear or a bikini, it's not really a fair comparison. Magic knickers, good posture and wise dressing make an enormous difference.

I personally would love to see clothes designers who were actually capable of designing clothes for realsitic body shapes instead of stick insects. At the moment I don't feel that any ARE capable of this....

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 03/09/2009 08:52

french woman are prettier as a rule.

largeginandtonic · 03/09/2009 08:53

MmeLindt you can be chic and still carry a few pounds

I think the model looks great but agree it looks like a post baby tummy.

I can't belive it has such news coverage. Although i am reading about it and commenting so i guess i see why!

morningpaper · 03/09/2009 08:58

MmeLindt/Anna: The converse is also true. When I lived in London I was always rather insecure about my appearance and body shape. After moving to SOMERSET however I now think I am a complete babe.

I can recommend it for a feel-good hit

However when DH now returns from business trips to London he is a boggle-eyed lech

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 03/09/2009 08:58

you can be gorgous, voluptuous, beautiful but no you cannot be chic unless thin.

morningpaper · 03/09/2009 09:00

EleanoraBuntingCupcake

Fortunately only women notice chic

Boys just like clean

noddyholder · 03/09/2009 09:01

french women ar more stylish but not prettier.Chic is easy if thin but sexy is not!

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 03/09/2009 09:02

quite mp! unless they are gay, chic is wasted on men.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 03/09/2009 09:03

noddy you are in denial, they are sooo much prettier.

belgo · 03/09/2009 09:04

I also assumed she had had a baby. Maybe she used to be a lot bigger and she lost weight?

Morningpaper - in Belgium I feel chubby, if not outright fat.

When I visit Bristol, Portishead, Clevedon, WSM, and that area, I feel positively thin.

ShowOfHands · 03/09/2009 09:04

Your life is so beautifully neat BonsoirAnna. Nobody in Paris is overweight. All women with a roll of fat are unhealthy. All GPs think the same way. It must be strange having no shades of grey in your life.

noddyholder · 03/09/2009 09:05

Why would I be in denial? Me and all my friends are gorgeous !They have generally (and I know a few) v skinny bodies a la beckham which look great in clothes but fag ash faces!English women much softer facially and less hard.
