Identity of Baby P's Mother To Be Revealed Tonight.

Along with that of her boyfriend.

I'm loathe to defend or protect her but that can't possibly lead to anything good can it?

The names have been fairly easy to find online for quite a while but there's a hell of a difference between having to actively look for them and having her picture splashed across the front page of The Sun as it undoubtedly will be.

i dont know what to makje of it.

the sun have lso said there were more injuries sustained than revealed.

think i'm going to avoid the papers for a while.

atlantis - I don't see how. They've already been sentenced and imprisoned.

In a lot of these cases the injuries/details are worse than revealed, especially where there is legal involvement.

In a way I'm glad of that though.

I find this amazing - especially in light of the huge issue of giving a new identity to Maxine Carr ...

As abomnible as it is, she has served her time for the crime and should be afforded some anonymity (sp)...

They were outed on facebook last year IIRC, there was a hate group specifically for them.

The high court order protecting their identities runs out at midnight - which means that news organisations are free to name them if they so wish.

The mother was moved from Holloway a couple of days ago, presumably for this reason.

To be honest i wouldn't particularly care if the mother or boyfriend were victims of attacks in prison or had to be kept in solitary - let me see how it feels to be frightened of violence for a change.

The people I feel sorry for are people like the grandparents or the other children.

What expact said, all this is going to do is cost us money, and hurt innocents. These two will be given new IDs and protection for as long as is needed.

Why does it have a time limit, this anonymity?
Pity the other children and family members, what possible good will it do them?

And agree with Expat, how much will cost for the new identities?

when people are convicted of a crime their identities are usually automatically made public - unless they are minors.

This couple could not be named because they were also involved in another case - the rape of a two year old girl. Now that all proceedings against them are dealt with they can be named.

How depressing to see that people think this is a good idea.

What is the point in naming them? What will that achieve?

As others have said, further expense for the taxpayer as they will now need new identities. Risk of identifying their other children. Don't forget the risk that pig-ignorant vigilantes will take their own action against people with the same name.

I for one do not want to know any more details of the injuries inflicted on baby P - serves no purpose to release more details and names other than to whip up a media frenzy.

dunno, though, it's hard to find families prepared to take on/able to cope with children who are very badly damaged and may have all sorts of emotional and behavioural difficulties.

And Baby P's family had been in difficulty for generations - when his mother was a child, her family members seem to have been affected by the Islington childrens' homes child abuse scandal. If Lord Laming had done his job then, maybe Baby P's life would have been very different. But SWs who tried to do the right thing and sound the alarm about widespread abuse of children were ignored - by Laming and others - and even victimised.

Quite. Hideous. And then to follow it up by getting Laming in to write the reports after the deaths of Baby Peter and Victoria Climbie... words (almost) fail me. Unless he's engaged in an awful lot of reflective practice after preventing investigations into Islington childrens' homes he's the last man to be given the job of protecting children.
