I think his victory in the EU elections makes him think that he can reveal more of his true true heinous side.

How long before he starts extolling the virtue of gas chambers?

yea well the church I go to advocates compassion....

FigmentOfYourImagination · 10/07/2009 13:16

However the political opinions you hold seem to diametrically oppose those of the Christian faith

daftpunk · 10/07/2009 13:23

you have no idea of my political beliefs...you are making massive assumptions based on a few posts.

spokette · 10/07/2009 13:24

The Brits who bleat on about the EU and expanded borders probably are very happy to indulge freely in the benefits that EU membership brings them.

It is the old adage, do as we say not as we do. Spain, France, Australia and New Zealand are full of Brits who think there are too many immigrants in the UK. The irony is always lost on them though.

DP did you see my question about which conutries you thought had recently been made safe by the British Army? Do you have any examples?

As for your statement that there is a big problem with immigration in this country - that is simply your opinion and not one shared by the majority. For the sake of clarity though, is your problem with legal economic migrants, asylum seekers or illegal economic migrants?

onagar · 10/07/2009 13:29

MIFLAW, you dismiss mine, but want to go with a plan that can be demolished by primary school arithmatic or a simple experiement with a paper bag. If you don't like it then come up with a better way that works. I don't have an easy way out and part of the reason is that short sighted people like yourself let it get too far gone.

daftpunk · 10/07/2009 13:37

clemette...i'm sorry but my opinion is shared by many... i know mn is very left wing...funnily enough so am i...but i am politically intune enough to know people have had enough.

my problem is not with legal economic migrants...it's with some asylum seekers and illegal immigrants...who wouldn't have a problem with illegals??

you asked me which countries have recently been made safe by the british army..... i think our army is currently in afghanistan ????

They have hardly made it safe though have they. You asserted that they could "all" go back once the British Army made countries safe - my point is that this doesn't actually happen.

Your views are your own business, but they need to be based on fact not jingoistic nonsense...

I don't have a problem with illegal immigrants - the basis of my socialism is equal opportunity for all, I don't actually care where they were born. As for you being politically in tune, I am not sure who you spend your day with so couldn't comment, but I meet a fair few people from a range of backgrounds in my job and, in my experience, your view is a minority one (if it wasn't surely UKIP and the BNP would have stormed the polls...?)

brightongirldownunder · 10/07/2009 14:00

Sigh...
Surely we cannot have a debate about immigration STARTED by Griffin. He's a worthless piece of dog turd.

I am a migrant. Admittedly a legal one but we came to Australia for a better life. I can't imagine what its like to HAVE to escape from your country of birth to avoid being imprisoned/raped/murdered for your beliefs.Do you think people want to risk drowning or burning alive just to claim benefits. We're all screwed if we start thinking like that.

I say stick Griffin and his scumbag supporters along with Daily Mail journos on a boat and send them off to Libya.

daftpunk · 10/07/2009 14:04

you don't have a problem with illegal immigrants?...so you think it's ok for an illegal to come into this country and work as,.... lets say a cab driver....no insurance/no tax...no nothing...picking up young women....you're ok with that are you?

where did you learn your politics?...from a CD you bought at a car boot sale?

brightongirldownunder · 10/07/2009 14:09

Calm down and have a drink before you explode, dp.

If you've aimed that at me I can't be bothered to answer you.

One of my best friends escaped apartheid South Africa and if you heard her stories you'd seriously think twice before assuming the worst of every immigrant - legal or otherwise.

brightongirldownunder · 10/07/2009 14:11

You know I used to respect your opinions, but recently you just seem intent to being rude. Shame really.

sorry - ignore 1st repeated one. Darn it.

clemette · 10/07/2009 14:13

Am trying not to tell you to just fuck off. Instead I will say that combining being head of humanities (including A level politics) and recently finishing my doctorate in political history has left me little time for car boot sales. You may not agree with my politics but that doesn't mean they are not equally valid (if not more so as mine aren't diluted by bile and vitriol).

I have no issue with the principle of freedom of migration. Remove controls and then you remove the problem you outlined above.

clemette · 10/07/2009 14:15

Which aspects of "left wing politics" do you actually agree with?

daftpunk · 10/07/2009 14:18

clemette...you cannot have illegal immigrants working in this country...it's illegal.

daftpunk · 10/07/2009 14:21

workers rights...the right to stike..increasing the minimum wage...i could bore you all day...

JesuslovesDubrovnik · 10/07/2009 14:22

DP"my problem is not with legal economic migrants...it's with some asylum seekers and illegal immigrants...who wouldn't have a problem with illegals??"

now as much as i wouldn't mind DP getting flamed as shes probably on my top 10 'posters to avoid 'cos of slight insanity' list, i have to ask this

if she doesn't have a problemn with economic migrants

but illegal immigrants - why is she getting flamed?

@some asylum seekers

or is it that you think this is a thin veil for underlying racism.

posters who flame - please respond

MIFLAW · 10/07/2009 14:27

Onagar

Let WHAT get too far gone?

Look, it's not hard. Because our society is post-industrial, has a welfare state and has not been bombed for 60-odd years, life expectancy is increasing.

Because of rising expectations and improved contraception, the birth rate has not kept pace with this.

This means that more (old) people are being supported by fewer (young) people.

The MONEY - not the GOODS, the MONEY - to cover that gap has to come from somewhere.

OR we reduce the number of old people by culling them or sending them away and meanwhile work hard at reducing life expectancy.

All of this is true without immigrants of any sort. This is a tendency observable across the developed world, including countries like Japan. We are, simply, victims of our own success.

Immigration is one possible solution to this. In terms of physical overcrowding, countries like Japan (again) have proved we still have a long way to go. In terms of wealth, working people produce more than they consume - this is the basis of capitalism.

Read that again - immigration is the SOLUTION, not the CAUSE. The causes were in place before the Windrush docked and will remain with us for a long time to come. So what have I let get too far gone? The NHS? The raising of the school leaving age? World peace? Division of labour by specialism?

I really don't think you have a clue what you are talking about.

clemette · 10/07/2009 15:02

"clemette...you cannot have illegal immigrants working in this country...it's illegal." I think you may have missed my point.
However, it is evident that you are not interested in an actual debate, preferring personal insults, so I will make a tactical withdrawal.

Jesusloves I am not sure about flaming DP; I asked for clarification of the armed forces issue and was accused of being ignorant. I resent the implication from someone who doesn't seem to respect the fact that some people don't think immigration is a problem. Through the thread she has not been entirely clear which type of immigrants are the "huge problem created by Labour"

FAQinglovely · 10/07/2009 15:42

"t's with some asylum seekers"

ermm which ones would those be??

JesuslovesDubrovnik · 10/07/2009 16:23

agreed clement and faq. i think there needs to be clarity on asylum seekers/economic migrants/illigant immigrants (have i missed any?)

in my part of the country the only racism i come across is that directed at economic migrants.
