I think it is a rather nice send off,
Fitting.
Nice to hear others sing his songs

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 10:47

lololol. yep, spokette, you bought it, hook, line and sinker.

so you'd clearly have trusted poor, naive MJ enough to let him sleep with your kids, then?

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 10:52

and if your daughter's dating OJ, also acquitted by a starstruck Californian judge and jury following an obfuscatory defence? not a problem, i assume, because he too must be innocent?

Hulababy · 08/07/2009 10:53

This is why we need to be very careful with publicising such cases. As far as we all know he was acquitted. He was not found guilty of any crime. We do not know anymore than what is in the media - and the media is a very twisted thing in many circumsatnces.

I have no idea what the truth was. I wasn't there. I didn't see the fulle vidence or defense, other than what has been in the highly suspect media.

Unless people on here have some very close insight I can't see how anyone can insist he is guilty. They can speculate, but that is all it is. They are responsing to what they have seen on Tv and in the press. They are not responding to the full evidence nor truth.

Maninadirndl · 08/07/2009 10:55

If ever you travel in the developing world and wander the souks and bazaars in the pirate tape shops you will find loads of MJ CDs and T shirts. He was a global icon of our time who we'll never ever see again.

I am sure there are T shirts on kids in the Masai Mara in Africa to Saudi teenage girls to eskimos in the North Pole with a poster of him in their igloo (well not quite but you get the drift). He had global appeal and was perhaps the biggest star with talent to die since John Lennon.

mangopassionfruitshake · 08/07/2009 10:59

Erm, no strong feelings about MJ, but
"If ever you travel in the developing world and wander the souks and bazaars in the pirate tape shops you will find" ...tons of Osama Bin Laden tshirts. So?

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:00

hang on a sec. did you SEE that kid with michael jackson on the martin bashir documentary? the one that OKAYED by MJ? you thought that looked fine, did you?

you should read maureen orth's pieces in vanity fair, like dittany says. it's utterly pathetic to suggest that 'the media' has any more axe to grind than the Jackson family in this.

plus, that's some assumption that any insight we might have is only from the papers, you don't have a clue who you're speaking to on here or what other information we might have.

anyway, OJ? nice guy, huh? picked on by the media a bit though, eh?

Hulababy · 08/07/2009 11:06

I agree that you may have more insight. I included that in my post. Have been on Mn long enough to knwo to add such a cmment before posting!

But I do imagine that most people on here don't have more insight than that.

I have no feelings either way on MJ. So I feel what I post is pretty impartial TBH.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:08

yes, but by dragging up the old 'media bad' and 'we weren't there' argument, you were stifling discussion. that's not impartial under the circumstances.

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 11:11

Spokette- Alot of what you say makes sense to me. Possible, if not likely, that parents were trying to get money out of MJ.

Even so, he had such a difficult childhood. It is a paradox as his dad drove him and he became a genius. Tragic but brilliant. I cherish his brilliance and I am sad about his hurt. And the endless cynicism about exactly what was right for his funeral is just joyless and bitter.

Hulababy · 08/07/2009 11:12

No, it may stimulate conversation I agree. But it is simply an, imo, impartial comment responding to the previous posts about his guilt and the "would you let your child sleep in his bed" comments, which TBH to me is a much more inflammotary type comment - esp as mst parents wouldn't have their child sleep in a man's (or woman's) bed, bar close family, regardless of any court case.

Anyway, have to go. So not running out on a conversation or anything but am pretty ill and need to go and have a li down again. Will no doubt be online again shortly.

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 11:14

MJ was the GREATEST ENTERTAINER of all time. A flawed and hurt boy man but BRILLIANT.

Spokette- Prince can do it all as well: play the instruments, write his music and boy, can he sing!

varicoseveined · 08/07/2009 11:14

I don't know if anyone's pointed this out, but you have to remember that this is an African-American family and there are cultural differences, for instance we'd sing at the graveside for what seems like ages while the soil is placed back in the grave .

I'm originally from the Caribbean and I've been to many funerals where children have taken an active part of the service. In my view, it was not wrong for Paris to speak.

UnquietDad · 08/07/2009 11:16

So, in short, the funeral was ghoulish, weird and scary?

It's what he would have wanted.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:20

it's a challenging comment, designed to stimulate thinking and conversation on a board that lives and dies by thought and conversation.

so when you return from your sickbed (hope you feel better soon ), think about whether you agree that anyone who lets their child sleep with a strange man is automatically knowingly taking the risk that the child will be abused. and if so, does that make them guilty of wilful neglect? (even if no abuse has taken place).

that's how the jury got tripped up in the MJ case, by being directed to vent at Mrs Arviso. she had to be untrustworthy, you see, because most parents wouldn't let their kids sleep in another man's bed. never mind the fact that Jordy CHandler could identify MJ's penis in its erect state. (which was the piece of info that encouraged MJ to part with $20mill).

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:21

Harold Shipman was a good doctor, by all accounts... just that little matter of bumping off old ladies to take the shine off his obit.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:23

varicose, this wasn't the funeral. that was some days ago. this was a global television broadcast.

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 11:24

Come on guys, give MJ a break now that he is dead. Have been told that Elvis was not a nice or politically correct (!!) person but now that he is dead, I dance to his music with my little boy.

His family have a right to have what funeral they want. Now give him a break

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:26

not a funeral. a tv show.

he's dead, btw, he doesn't know about this thread. we can say what we like.

bobbysmum07 · 08/07/2009 11:28

There is no similarity whatsoever between Michael Jackson and OJ Simpson.

There was a mountain of forensic evidence against OJ Simpson, which the jury chose to ignore in order to make a racial statement (granted the police had planted some of the evidence).

There was NO evidence at all against Michael Jackson. The Arvizo kid was a proven liar and he came from a family of serial litigators. The mother used the kids routinely to extort money from people who had 'sexually molested' them. Jackson was not the first.

If Michael Jackson had been a paedophile, there would have been many more accusations against him. He invited hundreds of kids into his home, not just these two.

monkeytrousers · 08/07/2009 11:30

MJ and Shipman - the connection between them is lost on me

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 11:31

thank you bobbysmum.

Wish those of you who didn't like his farewell just tune out. SOme of us were moved and just just wanted to celebrate his music and his idealism.

spokette · 08/07/2009 11:32

Aitch, I think you should go public with your evidence regarding the guilt of MJ.

Just make sure that your own character can stand up to scrutiny.

spokette · 08/07/2009 11:34

I agree TDiddy

I think the haters should start their own thread and wallow in their perfection.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:34

bobbysmum, what an extraordinary leap of logic.
MJ has a proven track record of paying children not to accuse him publicly of child abuse... so you don't know how many he's paid off over the years. certainly he doesn't seem to have a lot of cash left.

and abusers do look for vulnerable people to abuse. a dysfunctional family with a greedy mother and a child with cancer... BINGO.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:37

that's COMPLETELY the point. my character would have NOTHING whatsoever to do with someone abusing my child. i'm rather shocked that you don't understand that, or would be had you not swallowed the MJ 'defence'.
