I think it is a rather nice send off,
Fitting.
Nice to hear others sing his songs

mj's children have had a very unusual upbringing, so to them, things that are normal and acceptable, ie, paris speaking at her fathers memorial, will be very different to what is normal and acceptable to most mnetters children. they are most likely very used to being surrounded by strangers with cameras pointed at them.

from what i saw, janet was asked if she wanted to speak, janet then said no, but that paris wanted to. paris was asked quite a few times if she was sure she wanted to do it.

slyandgobbo · 08/07/2009 12:28

Er, MrDogobama, que? These kids could have controlled the situation? You really think that?

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 12:28

"these kids were really savvy street smart, so one is left with the impression that they could have controlled the situation."

were they street smart? he got them from cancer/make a wish charities didn't he? or from their venal parents as a sacrifice to his celebrity cash.

bobbysmum07 · 08/07/2009 12:34

The Arvizo kid was street smart enough to take the witness stand against several other people who had 'abused' him, including his father and two security guards from Sears who 'molested' him after they caught him shoplifting.

tearinghairout · 08/07/2009 12:35

I liked the memorial, on the whole. I don't usually like Mariah Carey but she did a good job, showed a bit of vulnerability, it must've been really hard to sing there. From her song on, I was blubbing. Stevie Wonder was awesome, what a great musician. A bit -er- American: "I love you Michael & I've told you many times" etc. but there you go, people are emotional.

I learned quite a bit, eg that he'd visited the troops in Iraq & gone to hospitals etc. also that he gave the most to charities out of any celeb.

Listening to what people were saying about him on various TV progs recently, I have come to the conclusion that MJ was innocent.
He said, along the lines that he gave the kids a magical time at his ranch, come bedtime he was watching cartoons in bed & the kids wanted to get into bed with him. He was a kid like thy were, they were having fun, sounds plausible that the kids would want to sleep in his bed - in Michael Jackson's bed, Mr Wonderful, owner of Neverland, don't you think? Then they told the parents 'I slept in Michael's bed with him' & all hell broke loose. But the dch wouldn't testify against him.

So suppose he was completely innocent, he was an innocent man, possible NEVER having any sexual relationships with anyone. How awful the acusations then.

bobbysmum07 · 08/07/2009 12:37

This kid had no credibility whatsoever. He told lie after lie after lie on the witness stand. Every statement he made contradicted the last thing to leave his mouth.

There was a reason Jackson was acquitted, you know.

Hulababy · 08/07/2009 12:40

Am up again for a bit. More painkillers time I think...

But anyway...I have done with it all. I wasn't there, I didn't know. I would neve have accepted money for my child's innocence. I would never has allowed my child to shae this (or other) man's bed.

From what I have read I have no idea if he was guilty or not.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 12:41

oh yes, the lawyers tripped up a sick child. they must be so proud.

so have any of the 'he's INNOCENT' crew actually bothered to read the maureen orth articles yet?

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 12:42

read the orth pieces, hula, i think you'll find them really interesting. they're well-written and well-researched.

bobbysmum07 · 08/07/2009 12:43

I have no idea whether the Chandler kid had any credibility as that case was a trial by media. I suspect he didn't as the 'evidence' was put before two grand juries and the criminal case dropped on thne basis that it wasn't strong enough.

From what I have read, the strongest piece of 'evidence' against Jackson in that case was the description given by Chandler of his private parts. However, one glaring inconsistency was Chandler's declaration that Jackson was circumscised when he wasn't. I suspect that rendered the criminal case dead.

tiredsville · 08/07/2009 12:44

Unsure how true this story is but plenty of websites singinging from the same hym sheet

tiredsville · 08/07/2009 12:44

singing

ilovemydogandmrobama · 08/07/2009 12:45

Not sure, but didn't think that Jordy Chandler was from a cancer charity. I don't know.

No, of course I don't think the kids could have controlled the situation.

My point is that it challenges one's idea of child abuse, even my own.

slyandgobbo · 08/07/2009 12:48

Just to throw this into the mix:
(and speaking as a lawyer, ahem)
It really is quite easy for a skilled lawyer to cross-examine a young or not very clever or otherwise vulnerable person into appearing inconsistent / not credible. In some cases the person involved may be a liar. In other cases, not.

tiredsville · 08/07/2009 12:48

Perhaps better to wait to here news from a major news syndicate...

Slubberdegullion · 08/07/2009 12:48

I'm reading the Orth articles Aitch

Very well written, I'm only half way through he first one. I had no idea about any of this at all [living in a cave]. Good grief is my comment atm.

daftpunk · 08/07/2009 12:49

tearinghairout;....that's exactly how i see it.

bobbysmum07 · 08/07/2009 12:51

Trial by media, Aitch. Trial by media.

This was a man with many many detractors.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 12:56

lol bobbysmum. and from where have you formed your opinions re 'the arviso kid' and 'the chandler kid'?

yes, slub, good grief is about right. am watching the bashir doc, he really was a poor bastard. joe jackson sounds terrifying. but none of this makes sleeping in the same bed with lots of sick boys (because it was boys, he really didn't have a thing for girls and only tolerated the occasional sister) appropriate.

Nancy66 · 08/07/2009 12:57

michael jackson fans are mental

slyandgobbo · 08/07/2009 12:59

Orth articles fascinating, aitch.

daftpunk · 08/07/2009 13:00

aitch..come on, leave the man alone, he had a terrible life really....i will always remember him as a fantastic entertainer...his personal life, who really knows?...i personally don't believe he did anything.

bobbysmum07 · 08/07/2009 13:02

I formed my opinion of the Arvizo kid from the trial.

I have no opinion of Jordan Chandler. I do know that his father was taped admitting to an attempt to extort money from Jackson however.

I am not a Michael Jackson 'fan'. But I am not a child abuse guru either, and I have enough street smarts myself to see right through people like the Arvizos.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 13:03

leave him alone? he's dead, you know.
i personally believe he was a very talented child molester. read the orth pieces.

slyandgobbo · 08/07/2009 13:03

If we all "leave him alone" and generally declare him innocent:
a) what about the boys he may have abused who are alive and whose experiences we are blithely denying?
b) how as a society do we learn to deal approriately with cases like this should they occur again, or with any of the issues this raises about money, power, celebrity?
