I think it is a rather nice send off,
Fitting.
Nice to hear others sing his songs

He was found innocent in court. This thread demonstrates the PR damage of accusations so no surprise that he settled with those other wkids. So why did their parents settle their claims for money?!!! I would have wanted justice not dosh!!!!

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:39

MT, in the sense that you can say he was a good doctor to the vast majority of patients, but to the few he killed, not so much. likewise MJ clearly a phenomenal talent and a great entertainer, but to the kids he abused, not so much.

der. because if you went to court you'd have been flayed alive like mrs arviso... why are you so happy to believe terrible things about her from the papers etc but poor innocent MJ is being badmouthed by the media? you just cannot have it both ways, it's stupid.

daftpunk · 08/07/2009 11:44

i saw the last hour of the tribute..i thought it was quite ordinary really..i'm sure MJ would have wanted it a bit more theatrical...it was good though.

i will remember michael for his music...i'm a massive fan....still can't believe he's gone.

spokette · 08/07/2009 11:44

Why are you so quick to believe terrible things about MJ but not Mrs Avsio? Works both ways.

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 11:44

Dittany- MJ lived in an odd distorted world. He had a monkey as his good friend! He was also idealistic but there is no proven case of abuse and he has brought many of us great great joy.

His songs "Man in the mirror" and "Leave me alone" has a certain resonance to this discussion.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:46

oh i think she was greedy and stupid and i do think that a part of her knew what was going on, but that doesn't make MJ innocent. much as his lawyers might have tried to make it so.

read the maureen orth articles.

To MJ fans

Smile

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by...

If you smile With your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile if you'll just...
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you'll just...
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by...

If you smile
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you'll just Smile...

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you'll just Smile

Thank you Spokette

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 11:56

lol nat king cole wrote that, not mj.

i'm an mj fan, btw, i don't see how you can't be, he was amazing. just that one rather black mark against his name...

stuntman07 · 08/07/2009 11:58

I thought the whole Jackson clan were so insincere. Would you really want your kids put on stage for everyone to witness their grief?

pagwatch · 08/07/2009 12:02

My only comment on this malarkey
I am a fan of Michael Jackson . I bought all of his first albums and he and the jackson five were stuck all over my school folders. I used to snog my first boyfriend whilst listening to off the wall. I heard Thriller before it was released in the UK sitting in Freddie Mercurys Rolls Royce.
I was very shocked when he died although afterwards it seemed extraordinary to be shocked by the death of someone who had so unhealthy an appearance.I think the pictures of him as a child - and hearing his unbelievable voice coming out of that little boys body - are sad as he should have had everything in life with that talent and actually I think he led quite a sad existence.

But "smile" will always make me think of Nat King Cole.
And I think he probably was a paedophile.

I think the bits of the memorial that I saw looked awkward but you can see that it was a anttempt to be respectful - however that turned out.
And now I am very happy to move on
And I think I should keep away from pop stars - I don't seem to be very lucky for them.

spokette · 08/07/2009 12:02

I know Nat King Cole wrote it. MJ's version is one of the best.

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 12:05

stuntman07 - what is so wrong with witnessing grief? You might just be speaking from your own perspective.

spokette · 08/07/2009 12:07

Stuntman07

You would not like how they do funerals in New Orleans then. All that music, dancing and hollering.

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 12:07

Different people grieve in diff ways:

I know of a mixed village where minority type used to pay people of the majority type to cry at the funerals of their relatives in a public way as they had a tendency not to grieve openly.

2shoes · 08/07/2009 12:12

tdiddy there was a thread in the music topic to talk about his music sadly not as popular as talking about his "crimes"

TDiddy · 08/07/2009 12:14

Thanks 2shoes. Not sure why so many like to drag people down with their cyncism and bitterness.

poshsinglemum · 08/07/2009 12:14

I was almost in tears when his daughter made the speech at the end. I'm not sure that it was appropriate but moving-definately.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 08/07/2009 12:17

Don't really understand the controversy.

he admitted sleeping in the same bed with little boys. Of course this is inappropriate behavior. Not sure what the criminal charges were against him?

Part of the problem is that most people (myself included) think of child abuse as a crime against an innocent child, and these kids were really savvy street smart, so one is left with the impression that they could have controlled the situation.

The odd thing about the memorial service yesterday was that it was organized by the concert promoters .

2shoes · 08/07/2009 12:19

I do object to being called a "hater" just because someone has a different veiw to you does not mean they hate the person.
I was not a big fan(although like some of his music) just because I don't like seeing children used, does not make me a hater.

Nancy66 · 08/07/2009 12:23

One of the kids was a cancer patient - not sure he could have controlled the situation.

daftpunk · 08/07/2009 12:23

2shoes..you have just given two completely conflicting opinions..

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 12:26

yes, me too, 2shoes. it's just as insulting as saying, for example, that anyone who thinks that MJ didn't have inappropriate relationships with young boys is as thick as mince and letting his celebrity status cloud their already addled judgement. for example.
