Story here.

Maybe they should just move?

OP posts:
lil · 17/06/2009 17:00

lulu and mp you are WAY to sensitive. We all have views and the fact that people think that this is a "...." (insert whatever word preferred) religious observation is their view.

You should know Jews have a history of debate, they love it, young rabbis spend all day doing it! to stiffle debate by accusing peopl of being anti-semitic or anti-jewish just makes you seem more intolerant than them.

FlappyTheBat · 17/06/2009 17:02

Lulumama, you obviously didn't read MP's "reasoned" post when she likened all of us who were on the thread at the time to Nazis.

That is more offensive than anything else that has been written here.

I find it personally abhorrent to be linked to them, for reasons that I do not need to go into here, ever.

lil · 17/06/2009 17:04

and mp please explain how demanding £5000 from this management company is going to make up for a religious principle.

the fact that they are trying to make money out of this blows their holier than thou attitude out of the water.

morningpaper · 17/06/2009 17:04

Lil Do you REALLY think that a jweish rabbi would enjoy being called all of those names?

I didn't "liken you to Nazis", I was just reminding you that there are good REASONS for being wary when spouting your opinions about Jewish people.

Anyway, it's GREAT to see that none of you are anti-semitic. Unless, of course, Jewish people want to actually practice their religion. In which case they can obviously go fuck themselves.

GrapefruitMoon · 17/06/2009 17:04

Thanks for the clarification growingup...

Lulumama · 17/06/2009 17:04

lil, i take offence at that

you don't know me

or anything about me

read the list MP posted , those words spoken about a Black person, a Muslim, a lesbian, would that be ok?

nope, it wouldn't

i did not see MPs nazi comment, will look now

i dislike being told i am too sensitive/.intolerant because i object to the language used to describe the religious Jews being debated here

Lulumama · 17/06/2009 17:05

nor do you know how many rabbis are in my family, and you can rest assured that they would never debate anything in terms such as the ones used on this thread

poor little sensitive jew that i am , taking offence, when there is really nothing nasty, just a nice reasoned debate

I wonder what Jesus would do....

OlympedeGouges · 17/06/2009 17:06

They offered to foot the bill for the over ride switch themselves. They are not out to make money from this, they just want a solution they are happy with.

edam · 17/06/2009 17:06

MP, if you are totting up supposedly anti-Jewish comments then equally you have to admit your remark about the gas chambers was equally distasteful.

I don't think most people on this thread are anti-Jewish, I think they are reacting to the couple making unreasonable demands and suing their neighbours.

they're just names mp, if as a woman you were allowed to join the rabbi's debate (which you are not) then you would hear far worse I am sure!!

no growing up, we are not talking about reform or liberal judaism, this is orthodox judiasm, no women allowed (so stick that in your pipe!!)

lil · 17/06/2009 17:12

ok sorry about the pipe bit, but really your super arrogance is v irritating!!

Lulumama · 17/06/2009 17:13

i can assure you , no orthodox rabbi would say some of the things said on this thread

purpleduck · 17/06/2009 17:13

I am %100 in favour of religious rights.

However, I am deeply suspicious of religions that depend on rules/observances that have been handed down by man.
I believe that people come first. Maybe the God that I believe in is a different God, but surely tolerance/peace/love is what its all about?

and growing up...it doesn't matter if they are suing a management company or their neighbours..how is £5000 going to salve their religious hurt. Its money-grabbing and brings down their argument that they are holy people...yuk.

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/06/2009 17:15

That list of MP's says it all really. Can you imagine that if someone posted about, say, a muslim requesting Halal meat to be served in a canteen, or a Hindu not being allowed to celebrated Diwali, there would be a (justifiable) outcry. And a great deal of criticism for those vile comments earlier up the thread. But it seems that the good ol' Jews are always in line for a bashing.

Religious observance is not for me. But there is no way O would go out of my way to prevent someone installing a over-ride light switch like this. Fgs it is important to them. It is absoluteley not important for any of those other residents that the lights would be left on. Why would anyone care (the cost would be negligible imo).

Blimey people should have a bit of tolerance.

sassy · 17/06/2009 17:16

I have rturned to this thread to retract a comment I made. I remain utterly bemused by the way the Torah rules are interpreted (I am equally bemused by certain religious rules from other religions). However, I should not have been offensive.

I stand by this comment:Who is going to pay for the extra electricity costs generated by the lights being on all day on Sunday? I guess this would be shared by all the inhabitants of the block. (The principle overrides the minimal cost of this especially as this whole issue ia about principle.)

But I should not have been rude.
