Here's one prediction www.predict09.eu/default/en-us/state_analyses.aspx#united

Cheeringly, it reckons that the BNP won't win a seat. Here's hoping.

I work with people who have voted BNP now and in the past. They do it out of ignorance, out of "they're" taking our jobs, "they" get all the benefits "they" have kids to get tax credits. And tonight those voters actually got a BNP candidate elected.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:38

Hey SG, isn't this your ex-lecturer?

yes he is, and he's a very nice chap.

Penthesileia · 07/06/2009 23:40

Well, he's well spoken - so those who voted for him could reassure themselves that he wasn't a skinhead thug.

Wonderstuff · 07/06/2009 23:40

How can a TEACHER stand for the BNP? I don't have the words to express how depressing I find this.

BTW BNP vote dropped 6,500 votes, but the total number of votes cast dramatically fell (because postal balloting was used last time), so actually their vote was up.

It's not the case that their vote fell as a %.

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:42

He was leader of the NF actually, although after they splintered into two I think.

And he's not a teacher any more (he was a very good teacher though). He's retired.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:43

Yes SG, that's what I meant - down in absolute numbers but up in %

How can someone be nice, intelligent and sign up to the BNP's manifesto? I honestly don't get that.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:46

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:46

Last time numbers were Labour 298,000, Tory 178,000.

This time Tories 145,000 Labour 138,000

Absolutely terrible for Labour.

Ewe · 07/06/2009 23:47

You can't stop someone holding extreme views though can you? They just can't teach them.

You know, these results aren't great for the Tories, are they? If Labour weren't doing so awfully, the Tories would be having a very bad night.

ruddynorah · 07/06/2009 23:52

bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:52

er yes winning in the land of coal mines and Keir Hardie is pretty fucking brilliant for the Tories.
