Here's one prediction www.predict09.eu/default/en-us/state_analyses.aspx#united

Cheeringly, it reckons that the BNP won't win a seat. Here's hoping.

Oh I misheard the Easten count I thought 19000 which was bad enough, 97000 makes me feel sick tbh

magentadreamer · 07/06/2009 23:24

Yorkshire results about to be announced! sounds as the scum got a seat!

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:25

Sorry the Tories actually have a much harder task than that. The Greens do only need 3092 more votes than BNP, simple, but the Tories actually need 3 times the BNP's vote in the remaining areas PLUS 5346.

Which is a hard ask.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:25

Wonderstuff, that's pretty much what I think re. BNP and racism - can't see how anyone can vote for them and not know that it's a racist party, even if they don't know anything else.

I do think that there is a strong undertow of racism in England (can't speak for Scotland, Wales or N Ireland). Look at the way people invoke 'immigration' every time they're dissatisfied with something.

yorkshire results, over 100000 votes for bnp

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:27

Tory get first seat, Labour second, Lib Dems third, Tories fourth, BNP fifth, Labour sixth.

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:28

oops missed UKIP, BNP are sixth then.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:28

Yorks and Humber:

Con 2
Lab 1
UKIP 1 (Godfrey Bloom, what a freak)
LibDem 1
BNP 1

FUCK

OP posts:
Wonderstuff · 07/06/2009 23:29

FUCK

Spidermama · 07/06/2009 23:29

OMG. They have a seat in Europe.
Horrible.

Ewe · 07/06/2009 23:29

How very disappointing.

ruddynorah · 07/06/2009 23:30

yuk

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:30

It was very close. Another 10,000 votes for Labour would have done it.

If Gordon Brown wasn't such a twat the BNP would have lost.

PenelopePitstops · 07/06/2009 23:30

how horrible, i feel dissapointed in our country

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:30

Hey Spider - Brighton and Hove result: Green 19727 Conservative 13891 Labour 9113 UKIP 7570 Lib Dem 6410 BNP 1796

TwoIfBySea · 07/06/2009 23:30

So is there a reason why they have a seat in Yorkshire?

daftpunk · 07/06/2009 23:30

pw;

whatever you may think of the BNP (or UKIP)...this is a democracy and people can vote for who they like....why do you think so many people are voting for the BNP?

Spidermama · 07/06/2009 23:31

Imagine how horrendous to live up there and know that 120 thousand of your neighbours voted for racists.

I'm really, really saddened about this.

TwoIfBySea · 07/06/2009 23:31

I mean why people are voting for them in Yorkshire in such numbers?

Spidermama · 07/06/2009 23:32

Greens at 33.7% in Brighton and Hove.

This bodes very well for Caroline Lucas's general election campaign in the city.

Why are people voting for the BNP? I couldn't give you a very accurate answer cos I don't think I know anyone who has, or who would even consider it

I suspect it's a combination of ignorance, social deprivation, economic hopelessness, anger at mainstream parties, poor education and racism.

OP posts:
Wonderstuff · 07/06/2009 23:34

I think the bottom line is there are some people who see racism as abhorrent and others that just don't. My db thinks foreigners are taking all our jobs, I guess a lot of peole feel that way. I just feel so sad.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:35

SG is right - BNP vote was actually down in Yorks and Humber, but share was up cos of collapse in Labour vote

So all the ex-Labour voters who sat on their fat asses instead of going out and voting for SOMEBODY can feel ashamed of themselves

I went to school in a posh part of Yorkshire. We had a boy arrive from Bradford. He was very racist and always going on about Pakis. Where I lived was 99% white and there was very little racism.

But in Bradford there are major cultural/racial tensions between the Pakistani Muslim communities and whites. This is fertile environment for the BNP.

Other parts of Yorkshire, such as Hull, Barnsley, etc. are nearly all white, but are very working class Labour heartlands with no Tory penetration. So the Labour vote has gone to the BNP

I do think that Dimbleby is being a bit unreasonable on BBC news btw. The audience don't really need the 'BNP are so evil' spiel every 5 seconds, we're capable of making a judgement for ourselves.
