Here's one prediction www.predict09.eu/default/en-us/state_analyses.aspx#united

Cheeringly, it reckons that the BNP won't win a seat. Here's hoping.

10 seats in the SE so does that mean you need 10% to get a seat?

Nighbynight · 07/06/2009 22:59

I DONT UNDERSTAND THAT TABLE ON THE BBC EURO ELECTIONS PAGE EITHER!

Am shouting in the hope that it might attract the attention of someone at the BBC. Its late here. Im tired. and that table is not intuitive.

Wonderstuff · 07/06/2009 22:59

So BNP may get a seat in Yorkshire? 6 seats so BNP have got about 17% there? How very depressing.

Wonderstuff · 07/06/2009 23:03

Am I right, or is it more complex, seems and incredibly high percentage of the vote for the BNP to get?

daftpunk · 07/06/2009 23:04

franca; we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.....being tough on immigration does not make you racist...and i'm afraid the main political parties will have to look at how well UKIP are doing and listen to people...

Ewe · 07/06/2009 23:05

Thank god! A result.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:06

Current tallies in NW: Con 112,710, Lab 99,555, UKIP 68,340, Lib 60,315, BNP 39,352, Green 36,260

SomeGuy, can you work that one out?

The table on the BBC page is the tally of all the votes counted across the entire country (I think, if you're looking at the page linked to earlier) and as such, means little in terms of MEPs

Or are you looking at the actual Yorkshire page?

Labour 4th in East Mids?

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:08

no you don't need 17% to get the 6th seat. It's done by the d'hondt rule. The leading party gets the first seat. Its votes are then divided by two. The party then in the lead gets the second seat. Its votes are then divided by two (or three if it also got the first seat) and the party then in the lead gets the next seat. Etc.

It's quite possible for even the leading party to get less than 17%

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:11

Heck: NW - Greens currently on 8.27, BNP 8.37. Threshold for seat is 8.37. Half areas in. Liverpool still to come.

East result had BNP below the Christian party which was reassuring. Still shocked at how many people are prepared to vote for them though.

Ewe · 07/06/2009 23:13

I know, 97,000 in the Eastern region, it's mad.

Do we know roughly what time South Eastern might come out? [yawn]

daftpunk · 07/06/2009 23:13

the christian party? they sound like fun.

Wonderstuff · 07/06/2009 23:15

Thanks someguy, that is a bit clearer. I guess that will allow some very small parties to get seats? It's a wonder Europe ever decides anything.

SomeGuy · 07/06/2009 23:18

Con 112,710,
Lab 99,555,
UKIP 68,340,
Lib 60,315,
BNP 39,352,
Green 36,260

8 seats
first 4 to Con, Lab, UKIP, Lib

this leaves

Con 56,355
Lab 49,778
BNP 39,352,
Green 36,260
UKIP 34,170
Lib 30,157

5th is then Tory giving

Lab 49,778
BNP 39,352,
Con 37,570
Green 36,260
UKIP 34,170
Lib 30,157

Then Labour 6th
BNP 7th
Tory 8th

Out of remaining declarations needed is for two or more of following to be true
Tory +5346 over BNP
Green need +3092 over BNP
UKIP need +10364 over BNP
Labour need +18501 over BNP

So votes for Tories AND Green are what's needed to keep the BNP out.

Looks like BNP HAVE won the seat.

Which areas are still to declare?

BNP got 97,000 in the East of England poll

Wonderstuff · 07/06/2009 23:19

Do we think saying a vote for the BNP isn't always a vote for racism is correct? Surely they are above everything else racist and a large vote for them highlights that there is still a lot of people with racist views in this country? I'm suprised in a country which I thought was very tolerent and multicultural so many people are happy to vote BNP.

policywonk · 07/06/2009 23:20

Thanks SG

Liverpool, but not sure about the others
