she educated herself

she learned her lesson

she apologised and meant it

I AM a fan of Jade

I like her a lot and feel much sadness at this vibrant and humour full life cut short

Her little boys were goign to have the mother she never had and i SO relate to that

i am quite intrigued by the attitude that it's ok for Jade to "make money from the stupid tabloids" as Kimi puts it - whereas when Georgina Baillie did the same thing (with the same agent), she was vilified.

Listen, I didnt say you were uneducated. I said you were ignorant - I was speaking specifically about racism - as you well know. Suggesting you educate yourself on the matter in order to find out why such comments are racist doesnt mean you are stupid or poorly educated. Although I am starting to wonder, now you are putting words in my posts that arent there.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your evening

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 21:02

god, no, FAR too many syllables for the tabs. you're completely wrong, dittany.

as it happens, i've repeatedly said on this thread that i don't think it was a comp sadding one anyway. i think the OP was a nice one, and perfectly valid (apart from boozed up 'looks quite beautiful' which was a bit ott imo).

and NAO's posted on here long enough to know that you can't control where people post.

wannaBe · 28/02/2009 21:03

I have never felt comfortable with the selling of her last days, not even for the sake of her children. The woman made more money in the past however many years it has been since she went on big brother than most of us will make in a lifetime. It's highly unlikely that she would be able to make enough in the next few weeks to make a signifficant difference in her children's lives. And if it is possible to make that much that fast then frenkly there is something seriously wrong with society.

But I also don't like this notion that if you dare to disagree with what she's doing then you hate her/are without compassion/empathy... I don't hate her. I don't love her either - in fact I feel nothing for her because I don't know her. But I hate what she represents. A culture where you can have no education and come out of school with nothing and then go on reality television and come out with the expectation of making a living out of ... what exactly? Selling programmes about yourself? Or artacles about your lack of education/bad upbringing to ok magazine? Is it any wonder that teens are going into school telling their teachers that when they grow up they want to be "famous" whatever that might involve. It's not the fault of the individual. It is the fault of the people who are prepared to pay money to rake over the life of someone who they don't know, who has never done anything relevant to anyone, and yet somehow it's entertaining.

I think the news coverage should stop now. We don't need to know that Jade is in a hospice, we don't need to know that she had a row with her neighbour over a gate while she was on her way to the hospice. We don't need to know if/when she comes home. And quite frankly I don't want to know. And it's not a case of having to buy the magazines to read about it - it's everywhere. And I don't see why I should avoid watching the news because I don't want to hear about it - it's not news.

And when she dies it will be sad. Sad for her mother and her children and all those who knew and loved her. And we will say "oh Jade died, that's sad" and then get on with our lives. Let's not pretend otherwise.

If I was a media student I would definatly write my thesis on Jade.

dontgive2shoites4daftpricks · 28/02/2009 21:14

Can we really mention tact in a meaningful way wrt to this?

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 21:15

"Anyway if you want to be clear-eyed and sophisticated why don't you do it on another thread? "

why don't you stop telling people where to post?

southeastastra · 28/02/2009 21:16

lol is that what media students do

FairyMum · 28/02/2009 21:20

Don't you think its interesting how people like Jade can sell tons and tons of magazines if they are on the front pages? Have you tried to buy a gossip magazine the last couple of weeks. Its Jade, jade jade....Poor Kerry and Jordan must be feeling the recession. And who would have thought that after cbb jade and her mum too was able to get back onto the front covers having been so vile on the programmes?

FairyMum · 28/02/2009 21:22

in terms of the jade goody effect on cervical cancer smears, I think that Kylie Minogues's breast cancer probably made thousands of young women examine their breasts too, but Kylie did not spend her days of fighting the cancer on every front cover....

PillicockSatOnPillicockHill · 28/02/2009 21:23

lol at 'boozed up' Aitch

dp said my stamina for drink has gone 'right down' over the last few months and here's the thread to prove it

Two large glasses of red and I have been hung - over all day!

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 21:26

lol. i'm a total lightweight these days as well.

BigGitDad · 28/02/2009 21:27

Any one see Piers Morgan interview of jade not long after CBB, it was brilliant, he analysed her personality her weaknesses brilliantly. Apparently he will be doing another one.

pagwatch · 28/02/2009 21:27

I think Jades whole story is astonishing on so many levels mostly because she is a person who has spent her whole adult life being famous for no reason whatsoever otherthan for being famous.
She is the most obviously talentless of all the latest batch of pointless celebrities and yet she has managed to carve a career doing nothing.
If anything sums up the all out freaky pointlessness of Britain today then surly it is she.
And then to effectively choose to allow her death to be played out for the edification of the tv and magazines seems unbelieveable to me but it seems to be what the public want and expect and i really really don't understand it.

The dislocation between human connection and connection via the media seems huge to me. This young woman is going to die and parts of the world seem to want to stop everything to embrace her death and share in the grief. Yet my friend helps a man whose young wife died a year ago and left him with two young children. And the world doesn't give a shit.
We can now apparently feel and react more intensely with people we have never met than we can with our neighbour.
And people don't find that odd - they regard it as a tribute to their capacity to care.

I'm not blaming anyone for how they feel. I just find it really strange

I just can't understand it. I'm baffled

Pristina · 28/02/2009 21:29

Have just come back to this thread to see that it has sunk to new lows.

Some quotes from Desiderata (following a rather weak disclaimer about moving away from the individual);

"I can absolutely predict what good (her sons) will do with their lives. None"
"Don't tell me she's a good mother. She's not".
"Lots of women die every day...all of them more worth of accolade than she is".

Is there really any justification for this, towards a fellow young mother, contemplating the end of her life?

BigGitDad · 28/02/2009 21:30

FWIW pag I agree with you, why is there this interest in Jordan, KK, Chantelle and the rest. What is the point? I think we have really dumbed down as a nation.

southeastastra · 28/02/2009 21:32

i started a thread on an article on magazines the other day link

cherryblossoms is spot on, in don't know why cheapo crap magazines sell so much but jade is a product of it.

it's weird, maybe people are just want extreme news now

PillicockSatOnPillicockHill · 28/02/2009 21:34

pagwatch that is an indication of society as a whole - i agree

apathy with regard to ones neighbours etc is at an all time high

I wont word this well but - the world in places like the uk seems to be becoming more and more 'distance based'

People shop online - have online friendships and relationships and with this comes a more 'real' seeming media

People care about things and people that they do not really know...

I read something in the papers this week about facebook /bebo etc actually contributing to social isolation and this is another outcome imo. People actually CARE about people they do not know whilst at the same time distancing themselves from RL friends

how was it toward her? are you honestly deluded enough to think that she's reading, pristina? and the thread hasn't sunk anywhere, it's a continuing discussion. if anything, it's risen in tone considerably since you and your cronies had departed.

excellent post, pagwatch. there is no such thing as society, only celebrity. it's so WEIRD, isn't it? that people think that feeling MORE is necessarily better. never mind the quality, feel the width.

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 21:39

that's exactly what happened with BB, dittany. the papers use BB as a summer event. entertainment etc journalists used to go on long holidays during the summer as the schedules were pretty much empty but now they're having to watch bb hour by hour. and i'm absolutely certain they feel superior to her, why wouldn't they? they're using her as a commodity to sell papers.

but don't forget... if the plan didn't work they'd do something else. the responsibility, as ever, lies with the person who buys the paper. and i think a lot of them are on this thread. if it didn't sell, it wouldn't print.
