Desiderata I know this, I grew up one of only 3 white kids in my school, I see people not colours, none of the Indian friends I have thought the Poppadom thing was racist, it was mostly white people saying it was, and I do not think channel 4 should have shown it and made a big thing out of it.

I hardly think it is worth having such hatred of Jade Goodie because she said something stupid (not racist).

In a very short time two little boys will be with out their mother, that is sad, Jade has done what she thinks best for her children and got as much money as she can out of papers and trash mags for her story, I admit funeral photos in Hello would be in bad taste, but I admire the woman for doing all she can to leave her children a better start in life then she had.

I do not see why people hate her, yes she is common, yes she is poorly educated, yes she is loud, but she did not sit on her arse and let others pick up the cost, she had an opportunity to make money and she took it, she invested it well and she has been a bloody good parent.

There are people on this thread who should hang their heads in shame for exploiting the death of a young mother to work out issues they have with prolific posters on MN.

i'm really disgusted, tbh, that people are taking thoughtful posts about the nature of fame/Jade's past behaviour vs her current etc and making them out to be vitriolic so that they can grind their holier-than-thou axes.

How do you know she's been a good parent, kimi? We can all pretend when the cameras are rolling. Her boys are far too young to know what's good or bad about her.

Let's take this away from the individual, for a moment.

A person makes celebrity out of nothing, and then dies, leaving her sons an enormous fortune.

I can absolutely predict what good they will do with their lives.

None.

They will lead a life where they expect money to come their way from their dead mother's celebrity. Her celebrity, of course, is dubious in the extreme, which will have an impact of them.

They will grow up without a significant father figure, which is never good for boys, and at some point in their lives, they will wonder what all the fuss was about.

And as a society, I think we have to wonder that, too.

Jade Goody has deliberately and cynically lived her life through the media. Her sons will suffer for that.

So don't tell me she's a good mother. She's not. She has prostituted her own death in the belief that it will give her sons an easy life.

It won't.

Good parents know that.

they do have a dad, desi. jeff brazier. she was on shipwrecked, was 'cast' as one of the good guys, rather convincingly i must say. so i'd hope he'll be around to take care of them well.

I think she has been a good parent to make sure her children are going to be looked after, school fees paid and a better start in life then she had, and if she can make money from the stupid tabloids then why not? No we don't know how her children will turn out, I don't know how mine will you don't know if yours will find the cure for AIDS or die in a crack den, as parents all we can do is give them the best start we can and she has done that.

I'm really torn about the Jade thing. I mean, aside from being so sorry for her and others who are suffering from this disease.

I don't know what she is expected to do though. Her job since BB and a very young woman has been media exposure and p.a.'s.

The exploitation/prostitution perspective has some resonance with me but I don't really know what else she could be expected to do? She doesn't know any other way. Many people don't know any other way. I'm not really sure it's a reason to despise them as individuals.

As for her sons being messed up because of the money - there are lots of children who get big inheritances from family members and who don't always have to work. It doesn't necessarily mean they'll be messed up if they're not indulged.

I thought they had a father? He's lying low now but won't he get custody after her death?

What bothers me more is, like the Cheryl Cole case, how Jade Goody's husband, Jack, is someone convicted of a nasty assault but he is in all the magazines, being portrayed as a loving man. Jack Tweed and Cheryl Cole are both guilty of violent crimes which are conveniently forgotten. That bothers me more.

hhhhhm. i've mostly gone along with the 'selling her story so her kids can have money' thing and not really questioned it, but desi might be making a good point here. there's an assumption that she's doing the right thing by concentrating on the money, but who's to know if her children might resent their mother's final weeks being sold to the highest bidder when they get older? they might feel exploited in the future and have been happier with whatever (presumably not insubstantial) funds they had prior to her selling it all to the highest bidder. poor wee boys anyway, they might need the money to pay for therapy.

bless her, she probably is nice enough but i've seen a couple of shows where she has shown really extraordinary anger issues. screaming and hitting at jeff brazier on wife swap and of course her really unpleasant behaviour on cbb. not the racism thing, that's been done to death, just the ugly temper. actually, she did that back to reality show on channel five and screamed and shouted and bullied someone on that as well, i can't remember who'

I don't really give a toss what happened on BB I think it was poorly handled and Jade was made to look worse then she was.

I think there are a lot worst people out there, 15 year olds having babies, people never working a day in their lives and living off the state, people who take drugs, people who let their kids come and go as they please and have no idea what they do, these are what is wrong with society today, ok Jade Goodie is not the best role model in the world, but at least she made an effort to be a better person and learn from the wrong in her life.
