MMJ I don't think Dennis Healy is dead. Are we going to have our John Goodman argument again?

poopscoop · 26/02/2009 15:33

another sad news item. I almost did not put the news on this lunchtime as it has been so depressing, what with Jade Goody and Ivan Cameron, plane crashes etc, but my pessimistic side got the better of me, and I did. Here we go again I thought...

sockmonkey · 26/02/2009 15:55

It is sad news about WR.

To TT, I just read this by Maya Angelou and you came to mind:

"A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall. They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever good enough!

When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters"

It goes on, but I think it says everything about you really. How sad it must be to go through life as a hater and not do anything of note yourself.

RIP Wendy. Pauline was a legend.

Sad news, my uncle once worked at her house and said she was lovely.

AitchTwoOh · 26/02/2009 17:16

actually, i've interviewed maya angelou, or miss angelou as she prefers to be addressed. i can't imagine she'd think there was much honour in slagging off people on the internet, regardless of the perceived moral position of the poster.

gagamama · 26/02/2009 17:18

I can't believe the 'death list' comment. So what if nobody here knows Wendy Richard (and how do you know that anyway?) Would you post the same thing on the thread about David Cameron's son?

Sad news about Wendy, I was only thinking about her the other day and hoping no news was good news.

Threadworm · 26/02/2009 17:21

WR was great on Just A Minute. Always so grumpy - I was never sure whether the grumpiness was a clever act, like Kenneth Williams' outbursts on the same programme.

AitchTwoOh · 26/02/2009 17:26

she was v good on that, wasn't she? first female i remembwer being on it, quite a trailblazer.

i knew someone would exploit the death of ivan cameron to push the 'no jokes on mn' line.

Rindercella · 26/02/2009 17:29

Aitch, forgive me for not realising that Maya Angelou prefers to be addressed as 'Miss Angelou'. Having not interviewed her myself it is perhaps an understandable oversight. However, as I am 100% sure that I was not actually addressing her in my comments to TT, it is totally irrelevant.

Threadworm · 26/02/2009 17:31

Yes, so did I. In fact, the 'would you do this on the Cameron thread?' question shows an awareness of the difference between the two sad events that makes the jokiness appropriate on this thread and not the other.

I wanted to cite the difference before, but didn't think it sensitive to introduce discussion of the other thread

AitchTwoOh · 26/02/2009 17:36

i mentioned it in passing, out of interest, because it reflects her grande dame bearing and imo reinforces my point that for you to use her words to be bitchy to another poster is ulikely to meet with her approval.

You know what I am that Wendy Richards has lost her battle against Breast cancer. I am not someone who greives over people she has never met, but it is pertinant in many peoples lives.

I am having a double radical mastectomy tomorrow and have lost most of my loved ones to this terrible cancer.

It is just not right to come on to this thread to find people making light of the fact that she is dead.

Many people are receiving treatment or in remission from BC on mumnet and this is totally insesitive.

I am really pissed off
