Sorry but the war in Gaza does not justify anti-semitic abuse or placards with swastikas on!

I've just spoken to a friend who went on the march in London today and feel physically sick at what she told me about some of the anti-semitic comments and chants she heard. She also told me about people carrying home made placards with swastikas intertwined with a star of david. I know people feel very strongly but how is this level of racial hatred justified??

This thread is about the greater effects of marches, the potential and existing rise of anti Jewish sentiment. Trying to isolate it as merely a campaign against violence in the M.E. is simplistic and as someone said before, very 6th former. This is all huge with massive ramifications for everyone.

Pack their bags and leave?

Where in God's name would all those Jews go? Because when they were being chased to hell by the Nazis, nobody would help or take them in. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody. And yet there is so much apparent horror in the West over the Shoah. You don't see tears or huge threads over Israeli children being blown up by suicide bombers.

Europe is glad Israel was created because all those Jews can stay in one place and not be so troublesome to them anymore.

Centuries of persecution has led to the need for a Jewish homeland.

There are threads about the horrors of what is going on in Gaza already.

I feel that many here and in the world feel that any violence towards Jewish people is simply a case of they are getting what they 'deserve'.

And, you can bet that the Jews are going to fight and fight as they always have against those hellbent on their extermination.

I'm interested to see that Robert Mugabe for example, has not excited such a a large response to threads. Only Israel. Fascinating.

"They didn't tell their neighbours as they were terrified of being labelled as Israeli conspirators and murdered by Hamas."

Ah but according to some, they could have voted for Hamas and are Palestinian like Hamas and therefore have responsibility for the illegal and evil acts Hamas perpetrate.

expressoplease · 11/01/2009 22:10

Because Magabe, for example is not recieving 30 billion dollars per year from the US to buy shiny new toys.

Monkeytrousers · 11/01/2009 22:10

That is a terible choice Bubble but the mob rule dictates that you will be strung from the nearest lamp post if you do such a thing. If people care to search the internest for such Palestinian tratiors they can fidn any amount of shocking images.

And just for sherazade, it happend that the Nazi's relied on such manaics doing such dirty work for 'the cause' of the reich. If uyou woud care do dig deeper, you may find you analogy more akin to human flaw than just Israeli.

Bubble99 · 11/01/2009 22:14

It begs the question of who is responsible for the deaths in the bombed building, if people are so terrified of being executed as 'conspirators' that they won't warn their neighbours to leave.

tigger15 · 11/01/2009 22:15

Expressopleasse - firstly I think you should check your figures on exactly how much aid Israel receives from the US.

Secondly do you know how much the EU grants to Palestinians each year out of our tax money? Do you hear people jumping up and down when they send maim and kill children from rockets or blow up shoppers and children on buses and in supermarkets? Why is that, dare I ask? Surely we should have even more say when it is actually our money going somewhere? Why don't we (collectively) care?

Hasn't EU aid to Gaza been suspended since Hamas took office?

And Mugabe doesn't have mate in Iran shovelling rockets in (not yet with nuclear warheads) via Egypt.

Interesting that Hamas is using the tunnels for weapons rather than food and supplies?

WinkyWola I totally agree.

I take issue when people start saying, you'd think the Jews would know better, after what happened to them. Not realising that that is just another way of making them the "other" the different, the singled out for different treatment, held to different standards.

pooka · 11/01/2009 22:23

Also, we have no way of knowing how much money/weaponry has been thoughtfully supplied to hamas by neighbouring nations hostile to israel (iran for example).

Rev - try this article on peace in the middle east, it's a really interesting analysis.

But Hamas control the tunnels, surely?

And surely their first responsibility is to care for Palestinians rather than waste tunnel usage on weapons?

I think saying we should know better is different than pointing to a group from outside and saying they should know better.

tigger15 · 11/01/2009 22:28

I think it's referring to the fact that Israel has made peace with Egypt and Jordan. It might also be that it's rather more of a democracy than the surrounding countries, if you look at things like general culture, rights of women etc.

Sorry I do apologise, 3 billion dollars anually for the next ten years.

Bubble99 · 11/01/2009 22:34

rev. There was an interesting programme on C4 earlier, 'Jesus The Jew' about the history of anti Semitism in Christianity.

From the way Jews were blamed for the crucifixion through to the 'Jews murder babies and drink their blood' stuff, which is plainly bonkers due to Jewish dietary laws, to other V interesting stuff.

It's on again next week
