Doesnt this sort of stink of hypercritism? when she said I wont comment until I speak to my 'agent' - was what she meant - I could make some money out of this - I know if every time I speak I have The Sun logo above my head I will bask in the glory?

Isnt talking about how rubbish RB is in bed stooping to the very level that we are accusing RB of? Will RBs granfather not have to read this article and will they not be upset? Sachs has been very dignified about the whole inccident though it has to be said.

oh dittany you're missing a trick

it's human beings and how weird they are that he's talking about. and he is really really funny.

Tiggiwinkle · 30/10/2008 23:02

I think Sophable's point is that the whole publicity furore is orchestrated, not the actual events that led up to it mabanana...

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 23:02

that Terry Wogan is good though

mabanana · 30/10/2008 23:02

look no Max Clifford
As scoops go, the Brand and Ross phone prank row had a rather undramatic birth. Mail on Sunday reporter Miles Goslett was simply, as millions do, listening to the Russell Brand show on Radio 2. Having noted the somewhat risque nature of the call Brand and his guest Jonathan Ross made to Andrew Sachs's answerphone and the subsequent phone calls, Goslett waited to see how the papers would follow the story.

He waited several days before putting calls in to Sachs's agent. It seems it was not until the Mail on Sunday asked how Sachs felt about the now notorious line "he fucked your granddaughter", that the actor's agent, Meg Pool, was alerted to the broadcast.

SO yes, a Mail journalist unearthed the story, but why do you think it struck such a note with the public?

beaniescreamyb · 30/10/2008 23:03

Sophable you rock. Ponderland ... funny funny funny.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 23:03

you can be my publicist tiggy. you'll do it a lot better than me.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 23:04

Sachs KNEW about it

It was on his ANSWERPHONE!

IorekMandelson · 30/10/2008 23:04

I am watching too. It really is very funny.

Thomcat · 30/10/2008 23:04

It is really, really funny.
He's taking the piss out of other people talking about beastiality. He's rude, he's outrageous, it's what he's paid for.

skyatnight · 30/10/2008 23:05

'beyond the pale', 'amoral'

Gosh, I definitely have a puritanical streak in me. Definitely a round-head, not a cavalier. But it's me and I'm proud.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 23:05

I am writing the Roundup

It is not very funny

I have not Got Much Work Done, what with the internet being so full of Wrong people

Yes Tuesday Sachs didn't COMPLAIN at the time

And he WOULD most likely have listened, seeing as he was appearing the following week, and what with it being on his answerphone and everything

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 23:09

I am not a Russell Brand fan btw

I think he is a Knob

mabanana · 30/10/2008 23:09

So Sophable, you would have found it charming if an ex of yours from when you were 21 had gone on the radio to laugh about fucking your brains out, after calling your dad/granddad to laugh about how he'd had you over the couch?

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 23:10

any funnily enough dittany, you criticise him BUT WON'T WATCH HIM. unless you have sky and can tune into channel4 +1.

and then laugh for an hour. apart from the ad breaks.

i happen to think that JR is a total arse (although sometimes funny). doesn't mean that i think that this furore is justified.

IorekMandelson · 30/10/2008 23:10

I'm certainly not having a go at Georgina Baillie. I am having a go at the media that has whipped up this frenzy of hatred for no very good reason.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 23:10

This would depend on many variables eg. was Sophable a porn star at 21? Was her grandfather an acclaimed comedian made famous by a long-running racist gag? + many others

the devil is in the detail

mabanana · 30/10/2008 23:10

He didn't complain because he had asked for it not to be broadcast! He is 78. Of course he doesn't listen to Russell Brand at dead of night! As soon as he knew, he was horrified.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 23:11

but don't forget he is SEVENTY EIGHT. and therefore extra sensitive and sad about things. and life. and stuff.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 23:11

to laugh about fucking your brains out

that phrase wasn't ACTUALLY used was it? You just made it up

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 30/10/2008 23:11

I'm not a RB fan. I've only ever really seen him on that Big Brother show 2 years ago.

I like JR's R2 show. Never really watch him on the TV.
