Doesnt this sort of stink of hypercritism? when she said I wont comment until I speak to my 'agent' - was what she meant - I could make some money out of this - I know if every time I speak I have The Sun logo above my head I will bask in the glory?

Isnt talking about how rubbish RB is in bed stooping to the very level that we are accusing RB of? Will RBs granfather not have to read this article and will they not be upset? Sachs has been very dignified about the whole inccident though it has to be said.

This is all such a to-do for very little. And the BBC is so pompously weak at times. On the whole, I'm with sophable.

5000 - gosh I missed a 0. That is a large number.

mabanana · 30/10/2008 22:54

It was a planned interview, yes. ABOUT HIS CAREER! DO you think that makes the content of the messages acceptable? If you agree to talk to someone does that mean they can be as abusive as they like? Or have you, in your frothing fury, convinced yourself that he someone told them what to say. That this otherwise blameless 78 year old begged them to say 'he fucked your granddaughter' and to fantasise about breaking into his house to forcibly masturbate him in order to further her career in burlesque? Are you completely nuts?

And the pitchforks, TC, sorry, forgot those

(Recalculates depths of personal loathing of DM)

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 22:55

[faints at comparisons with stonings]

stephen glover keeps saying '78 y o man'

he was a young man once. who swore. and had sex. and probably said offensive things.

i hate this. i think it is really disturbing. it really really is rule by daily mail. and intelligent (policywonk for eg ) mners are going for it. and we're all going down the tubes because of it.

Upwind · 30/10/2008 22:55

sophable - you are making up an absurd story

On radio 4 earlier they said that a Mail on Sunday journo broke the story - he just happened to have heard the show and was amazed that nobody else got in before him. Nothing to do with Georgina Bailie's devilish plot. The Mail on Sunday used photos of her that were in the public domain.

Other media outlets and the BBC themselves seized on the story - unsurprisingly when you consider how offensive JR has been about BBC journalists, and how eager he has been to threaten legal action against the media. The likes of Piers Morgan took great glee in putting the boot in. None of this was part of some cunning plan by Georgina Bailie. She eventually cut her tour short, came back and told the Sun her very tame version of events. And then was vilified on MN, apparantly for the reasons outlined by OneBatMother.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 22:56

They pick on individuals all the time

Every five minutes

How can you not know this?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/10/2008 22:56
Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 22:56

honestly dittany, channel 4 now. russell brand.

intelligent, funny, silly, comedy.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 30/10/2008 22:56

Sorry, got sidelined but ABSOLUTELY astonished and gutted by some earlier posts:

sorry have i missed something...why does two little school boys saying (correctly) that one of them had sex with someone's granddaughter make them misogynists?/

|That was Sophable.

Weeeell. Because THEY'RE NOT SCHOOLBOYS. They're broadcasters. With HUGE power. And what's more, they represent the most powerful element of our society!

I'm sure as a read the rest of the thread, that I;ll be the latest in a line to point that out.. Right?

For crying out freaking loud.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 22:57

I agree re. the constant references to his age

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 22:57

upwind, yes i've made it up because you always see a max clifford byline don't you.

ARGHHHHHHHHHH.

GOd yes, JR very, very keen on his family's personal privacy. What an irony.
Sophable, you have made up a stupid, stupid fantasy.

Thomcat · 30/10/2008 22:58

We should all be watching ponderland
I'm multitasking.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 22:59

Dittany: No he didn't support it, but the original story was that he wasn't particularly bothered. He asked for it to be toned down and he'd appear the next week. The producer said "OK we'll see what we can do"

next thing the Mail journo picks it up

mabanana · 30/10/2008 22:59

Sophable, you have made this all up. There is a real timeline for this, and it does not remotely fit your fantasy. I am still waiting to hear how Andrew Sachs forced JR & RB to leave obscene messages on his answerphone.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 23:00

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 30/10/2008 23:00

Would you like me to pass you a brick wall sophable?

VersdeSociete · 30/10/2008 23:00

Ah, this is interesting but too angry for me.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 23:01

would you like a paperbag sophable?

NB to breathe into, not for me to bend you over the couch with it on your head, you understand

thanks jimjams [takes brick wall] thunks head repeatedly on it except is LAUGHING TOO MUCH AT PONDERLAND ON CHANNEL 4 AND HOPES TO FUCK THAT RB'S RATINGS ARE THROUGH THE ROOF.

skyatnight · 30/10/2008 23:01

Sophable, this broadcast was beyond the pale, amoral.

I have found some of what I know of RB's 'comedy' interesting, a lot of it is rubbish, a tiny proportion is original/thought-provoking/genius, etc.. But don't come out with the argument that his comedy, eg. constant reference to his 'ballbags' is 'edgy', and anyone who doesn't understand it is 'square' and boring and a censor...again. This has been done to death. It is not a valid argument.

Comedy genius does not make you above the law on offensive phone calls.
