HOW FECKING DEPRESSING WAS THAT?

beansprout · 20/07/2008 21:13

Oh and she's still shagging the bloke she mentions at the end, the one with a young child. Nice.

WideWebWitch · 20/07/2008 21:14

that was horrible, agree beansprout.

motherinferior · 20/07/2008 21:16

I think she hasn't quite got through the not drinking bit, if you see what I mean. She's clearly not boozing any more, but hasn't worked out/through/whatever the underlying reasons for her previous boozing.

hatwoman · 20/07/2008 21:16

the more I think about it the more crap it was - it was all about her - not about relationships or types of relationships. I could do a much more interesting piece. It would have my first love - a 14 year old farmer who had a cow for his birthday and took me to football matches (for a team I didn;t support); my first luuuuurve who I thought, at the time, was heathcliffe. he was doubtless a prat. It would have my Edgar who mended my heart (good on 'im) and my Gold-esque fling with an engaged man. It would be much more interesting.

expatinscotland · 20/07/2008 21:16

Some things have far more impact, poignancy and power when they are left unsaid.

Ms. Gold's past flings are such an instance.

morningpaper · 20/07/2008 21:18

Yes she sounds so awfully destructive

It's just horribly SAD

It's such a car-crash article

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 20/07/2008 21:18

I thought the chaps who said "go away and never try to contact me again" had it about right

beansprout · 20/07/2008 21:19

It wouldn't have been so bad if she had just seriously looked at what went wrong, but her need for them all to still like her was just self-centred in the extreme.

Snaf · 20/07/2008 21:20

I liked it, much to my surprise. Especially since the last time I saw a picture of Tanya Gold she was dressed up as a medieval serving wench or similar for a Daily Wail fluff piece on those historical re-enactment thingummys and gurning like a loon. Different sort of wailing this time, though. Thought it was well-written (mostly) and absorbing in a desperate, sad sort of way.

She always wears very thick tights

I remain puzzled by Matthew, who she describes as 'half Irish half black' - but there's a picture of him, and I've looked 3 times now, and he doesn't look even a teensy weensy bit black.

And if I was a political fundraiser and consultant, there's no way i would be photographed and named in this article, if i could help it!!

maybe he had a body-double for the photo - which would explain both issues.

motherinferior · 20/07/2008 21:30

Er, Blu, I don't look half Asian...?

beansprout · 20/07/2008 21:36

Who was the bloke in the bushes?! Most odd.

Blu · 20/07/2008 21:59

No, MI, I know...I know I'm being...you know...but still.

Anyway, I think your Asian-ness IS apparant...more apparant than him being black, anyway. I mean, she makes a point of him being 'half black' as a part of his beauty...(which isn't especially noticable in the picture, either, come to think of it).
If he was half black but that wasn't necessarily a noticable visual feature, would she have mentioned it in relation to his looks?

I'm off to get a magnifying glass now to look at that bit of hair between his fringe and the side of his head, as now I look again it might have slight black-hair qualities.

lilolilmanchester · 20/07/2008 22:01

I read it. Not so much depressing as sad. Very sad. And I'm not saying that in a judgemental "how could she sleep with all those guys" sort of way, more that she doesn't seem to have moved on. Hope you're reading this love, come talk to us!

talilac · 21/07/2008 10:28

I found it an utterly depressing read. Partly, because it is a very accurate depiction of some truly dreadful "relationships" I had when I was too young to know better. Partly because in her case, she's still in that place. And largely because she's shagging or offering to shag other peoples husbands and partners and really just doesn't see why that might be a bad thing.. I'm just as depressed about the guy with the unique wife who slept with her before he got married, and seems to be offering again..

TotalChaos · 21/07/2008 12:53

very bleak. and I was amazed at how keen she was to repeat the exact same mistakes and shag some of these dodgy exes.

MilkMonitor · 21/07/2008 13:29

She's obviously someone who finds herself utterly fascinating. Unfortunately, she just isn't that gripping.

The article was just totally self indulgent and pathetic wallowing to my mind. Move on and up, silly woman.

Think about other things than your "fanny" (bleurgh) and perhaps occupy your apparently intelligent brain with useful stuff.

beansprout · 21/07/2008 13:43

Am also disappointed that Teh Grauniad thought this was worth publishing too.

expatinscotland · 21/07/2008 13:45

i don't see what she has to gain by revisiting that awful time in her life.

i lived a similar life in the past, unfortunately, but the last thing i want to do of remind myself of that time.

beansprout · 21/07/2008 13:54

Because a) she is still stuck in that place, b) she gets some attention and c) someone actually pays her to write this stuff.

UnquietDad · 21/07/2008 14:23

d) she's going to write a book called "All the Men I've Slept With." Probably.

anotherdayyetanothernickame · 21/07/2008 14:32

God a whole book of it would be dire.

If I were Jon or the Muswell Hill one's wife I'd be none too chuffed about my dh being 'paraded' in this. I don't know why.

Blu - mixed race people can turn out like either parent and not just in between iyswim. But it is odd that she mentioned it as I don't really see why it's that relevant.

Agree with others who are perplexed at why Matthew agreed to be in this piece given his job.

suzywong · 21/07/2008 14:39

she sounds like a frickin nightmare! Needy (well she does admit that) attention seeking high maintainence energy sucking.

Bad writer too.

WinkyWinkola · 21/07/2008 14:39

Attention? Anything for attention?
