Annie Leibovitz took the photos of the 15-year-old partially covered with a sheet. Story here

What do we think?

LOL UQD.

Well I'm pretty sure all men don't leer, if nor Lear 'builder style' at teenage girls, but maybe find their eyes wandering as tehy drive by at a flash of long leg or ample busom.

Builders leer 'builder style' at them anyway. Lear just doesn't understand them

They may as well have shot the photos at the Playboy mansion with Hughey waving in the background.

Monkeytrousers · 30/04/2008 09:29

oh come on

UnquietDad · 30/04/2008 09:29

"Hooker chic" boots have become incredibly popular among girls of all ages, haven't they? Just an observation. Ten years ago you'd have only found them from, er, specialist outlets. These days it's all "S&M @ M&S".

I'm dreading the day I have to tell DD "you're not going out dressed like that, young lady."

Or the day she comes home at 14 with a 20-year-old boyfriend...

well I haven't time to write much but

it's exploitative because she is a fifteen year old girl, not an adult who can take decisions for herself and understand the consequences
because showbusiness in particular markets women and girls as sexual commodities
these photographs market her as a sexual commodity. I can't really see how it is empowering for a fifteen year old girl to be pictured draped in a satin sheet looking (frankly) post coital.
I am not saying she can't or shouldn't be sexual, fifteen year old girls can be sexual of course, and may be in consensual sexual relationships but with people of their own age.
but pouting at the camera half naked for the tittilation of the world, in order to sell your products, is exploitation of a commodity, exploitation of a child, by adults who have power over her.
the situation is markely different for a man (in fact) because male sexuality is not (yet, thank god) commoditised and sold in the same way.
and, to be clear, in that photograph Daniel Radcliffe is playing a part in a play (Equus) which requires the actor in question to be naked.
the artistic justification for photographing a child who is an icon for lots of pre-pubsescent girls in a rumpled satin sheet with her clothes off escapes me rather.
maybe it is post-feminist to exploit adolescent girls now

harpsichordcarrier · 30/04/2008 09:36

actually I did write a lot

PaninoPan · 30/04/2008 12:28

and jolly well to, harpsi, if I may say!! Covers just about all of the angles. Unlike this girls sheet.

PaninoPan · 30/04/2008 12:29

or too, indeed.

expatinscotland · 30/04/2008 16:59

and the small fact that Daniel Radcliffe was over hte age of consent when he auditioned for and won the role in the play. He'd read the script and knew it involved full frontal nudity.

The vid of her sat with her dad upsets me morethan the vanity fair sheet pic. The poses are far too sexualised imo.

EruvandeAini · 30/04/2008 17:27

It just squicks me out all over. And yes, a few months ago I did get my head turned by young Master Radcliffe, and felt horribly conflicted about the whole thing.

Miley Cyrus looks like a little girl who has been playing with her mum's lipstick and over-done it, too.
