oh my god

Beetroot · 27/04/2008 18:33

bbc news said that the oldest child smuggled a letter to the hospital

and that thre were 6 childre

controlfreakyagain · 27/04/2008 18:38

all sounds v odd indeed. suppose his wife / her mother is saying she had no is=dea at all what was going on?

controlfreakyagain · 27/04/2008 18:39

thought you had maths h/work to do beetroot?

Notalone · 27/04/2008 18:43

How could she not have known though? And why would you not pursue it if your 11 year old DD was missing, even with a "supposed letter". No letter would stop me searching for my child, and a child is what she was when she went missing.

how could the mother not know?

It is horrible

cocosquarepants · 27/04/2008 18:44

I can't believe the mother didn't know what was going on.

controlfreakyagain · 27/04/2008 18:46

what is shocking is that presumably she was reported as missing to police? (if not why not) and if not presumably she was attending school so school should have ?ed her absence / disappearance....

madcol · 27/04/2008 18:46

What a waste of life .
I know they are very rare but we seem to be hearing more of these long-term abduction cases.

NaughtyNigel · 27/04/2008 18:49

extraordinary.
so the father introduced 3 of his daughters (and his!) children into his own houshold? Her mother accepted the whole deal? and they all had no light for 24 years?
unbelievable! what on earth is the world coming to?

controlfreakyagain · 27/04/2008 18:49

she wasnt abducted madcol, she was imprisined and abused by her father in the family home.

FAQ · 27/04/2008 18:51

Notalone - she didn't go missing when she was 11, she went missing when she was 18 (according to the BBC)

RustyBear · 27/04/2008 18:55

I don't think she disappeared when she was 11, that's when he started abusing her. She must have disappeared when she was 18, if she's 42 now & has been there 24 years.

SheikYerbouti · 27/04/2008 19:08

Absolutely shocking.

That poor woman has had her life taken away - to be abused in that manner by the very who is meant to protect you. And her poor, poor babies. Imagine growing up knowing the horrible circumstances in which you came into the world.

This is one of the most horrific stories I have ever heard - and we don't even know the half of it yet, I am sure.

I must admit, I am a bit about the woman's mother. Surely she must have had suspicions. Very odd.

ajandjjmum · 27/04/2008 19:14

Some very funny things seem to happen in Austria!

treelover · 27/04/2008 19:15

very very strange.
if he is going to keep them locked up, then why take the 19 year old to hospital at all? if there is no record of her birth, and he is the monster he appears to be, then surely it would be simpler to just let her die? and what of the other two kids, who have seen the light of day?

also, locking up one person and drugging them to silence is one thing, but locking up four people, obviously he fed them, otherwise, they wouldnt have survived the 24 years. didnt anyone notice him buying extra groceries?
far more to the story

Heated · 27/04/2008 19:16

In Austria again?

SheikYerbouti · 27/04/2008 19:19

It doesn't make all Austrians weirdos

penpotEca · 27/04/2008 19:22

I saw this on the news. Makes me feel sick. That poor poor woman.

LyraSilvertongue · 27/04/2008 22:20

Utterly shocking.
I feel most sorry for those poor children who've never known any other world than that basement. They're 18, 19 and 5 and they've never seen daylight. what a waste.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 27/04/2008 22:41

God, its like that Flowers In The Attic book. That book made me feel ill when I read it. How sad.

WinkyWinkola · 27/04/2008 23:08

Just seen this story. Horrified. What is wrong with these people that do this kind of thing. How many more out there?

It's not just Austria, is it? Children kept and starved in cellars in Belgium, Germany.. . . .

wannaBe · 28/04/2008 09:20

how utterly horrible .

It seems though from reading
this
that the man's wife might not have been the mother? Obviously that's just a conslusion but they only refer to her as his wife, and not as liz's mother.

Wolfgirl · 28/04/2008 12:17

The link you provided wannaBe, says that the poor woman had 3 other siblings, all respected and living in the community. So why did the father pick on Elizabeth?.

I agree, there is a lot more to this story than has so far been revealed. How absolutely horrific, defies belief.

His life is nearing an end, so even if he is imprisoned, it wont be for long. No justice there!

shrinkingsagpuss · 28/04/2008 12:37

seriously creepy. it sedns shivers down my spine. It is beyond belief. you almost feel like you have to keep reading to convince yourself of the awful truth.
