Thought it would be nice to have a thread just to post how he impacted our lives.

i really appreciated his 5:2 diet. Only thing that made a difference.

He did an amazing documentary on the BBC a fair few years back: inside the human body. Its was bloody brilliant and really stuck with me. He followed the journey from birth to death. If you haven't seen it, you really must search it out.

I use the clips in my teaching all the time. I'd love the BBC to show this again in honour of such a a remarkable man.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 09/06/2024 22:16

DH has had some health issues recently and discovered MM and the just one thing podcast. He's found it really inspirational to make positive changes and feel in control of improving his heath. He's always telling me the latest tip/advice he's picked up. I will really miss hearing about him!

AutumnCrow · 09/06/2024 22:21

I think he gave people hope - hope that they could turn things around themselves with the right information. He said in effect that people have agency.

You can see the impact in this regard that he had on many MNers, and how he was genuinely held in high regard.

WannabeHealthier · 09/06/2024 22:22

He has accompanied me on many, many miles pounding my local streets while trying to transform my lifestyle. He has made a huge impact on me personally. I have enjoyed everything he has done - TV programmes on various topics, his books, wife’s recipes (regular favourites), his podcasting.

I think he has had a huge impact on the health of millions worldwide through the promotion of IF benefits- even if people haven’t heard of him.

I honestly think he has done more to improve the nation’s health than anyone else I can think of. Amazing man.

I hope his family see this thread and the outpouring of tributes to him.

I have been feeling sad all day. No celeb death has ever touched me in this way.

Shine on you diamond!

Yes! This is very true. He showed it was never too late to turn things around. And used science to prove it.

Haveanaiceday · 09/06/2024 22:27

A very sad loss. Dr Mosley had a real ability to bring scientific research that could benefit people's health to the public. On a personal level I learned a lot from his work and he answered a question for me on a MN Q&A he did a few years ago which I appreciated.

I'm so sorry for his wife and family, but I hope they find some comfort in how well regarded he was and the legacy he left.

Nannyfannybanny · 09/06/2024 22:28

He didn't just talk the talk,he walked the walk.. he had endoscopies, swallowed tape worm eggs. Was a thoroughly likeable person. Even my tough sarf London DH was gutted. RIP MICHAEL 🌹

LightSpeeds · 09/06/2024 22:40

I regularly listen to his 'Just One Thing' programmes.

I'm feeling very upset about what's happened. God bless him.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2024 22:42

He must have benefitted the health of many thousands of people. He (via 5:2) and Jillian Michaels turned me round in my early 50s, which made a difference to what I could do with my teenage DD (watersports!)

His loss is a tragedy to his family, and to the wider world.

Watchkeys · 09/06/2024 22:43

I've been thinking about how many lives will continue for longer as a result of his work, and how, without realising it, the longevity he worked so hard for is a gift he's given to everyone else, rather than something for himself. What a legacy.

littlbrowndog · 09/06/2024 22:45

Wonderful man 🙌🏽🙌🏽 he will be missed

thank you Michael

RawOvaltine · 09/06/2024 22:46

He was one of the only tv personalities I genuinely liked and admired. So kind and relatable.
I hope it’s not disrespectful to say that one of my favourite memories is of him infecting himself with tapeworms then spreading the results out in his garden - what a down to earth man!
He will be much missed by my family.

ShrinkingEveryDay · 09/06/2024 22:46

Just One Thing - planking to lower blood pressure! 🥰❤️

TappingTed · 09/06/2024 22:46

Like so many others his impact on us as a family has been immense. His “just one thing” is such a simple concept but inspiring as it makes change seem doable and achievable and helps procrastinators like me actually give things a go. I am one point off of my healthy BMI range and much is down to the MM methods of various types and the “make one change” type of philosophy.
Have been so sad about his death today, and it’s been preoccupying my mind since he went missing so God only knows how his poor family feel. He will be hugely missed.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/06/2024 22:47

I lost 5 stone doing 5:2. A couple of stone have crept back on so I’m going to do it again in his memory.

Lovely man who was engaging and humorous.

RIP Michael.

Iusedtobeapenguin · 09/06/2024 22:47

The blood sugar diet absolutely reversed my diabetes. Such a huge loss, a lovely man who almost certainly had so much more to give ❤️

INeedTheStuff · 09/06/2024 22:50

Hes the only celebrity death that has actually made me feel sad. His work on diet and health when at the start he was made fun of has changed so many peoples lives. I wonder how many years of life he has given to so many many people after reversing their diabetes etc. He was a true great.

SoMuchToBits · 09/06/2024 22:52

Yes, I'm another one who doesn't regularly get upset about celebrities, but Michael Mosley seemed such a lovely kind person, while being very factual and informative.

He will be very much missed. So sad that he died so suddenly. My thoughts are with his family.

WannabeHealthier · 09/06/2024 22:52

Please keep the stories of his impact coming - it’s inspiring and incredible to read.

In his memory, I’m re-committing to standing on one leg when brushing my teeth and boiling the kettle. I’m also going to tackle my insomnia once and for all!

His loss is a tragedy to his family, and to the wider world.

I was reading today he had 20,000 letters from grateful viewers about how they were cured after going to the doctor after watching his documentary about H. Pylori. And that's just the people who actually wrote in about a single one of the many many pieces of broadcasting he's done.

It's really an extraordinary achievement.

xerneas · 09/06/2024 22:53

I learnt the 4-2-4 breathing method from him.

goingdownfighting · 09/06/2024 22:56

I'm currently fasting to lose weight and will fast this week meticulously in honour of him.

Thank you Michael Mosley

Houseplantmad · 09/06/2024 22:58

Loved his unbridled enthusiasm for all the topics he tested on Just One Thing, and always loved the introduction to each episode!

He really did help so many people for the better. What a great legacy.

TheLongpigs · 09/06/2024 22:59

I feel so desperately sad about his death, and echo so much of what others have said. Especially about how he gave people hope, and gave us the information and tools to take control of our health. He enabled and encouraged people.

I loved his insatiable curiosity and positivity. I am devastated that I'll miss out on everything he still had to give. I can not bear to think how his wife and children are feeling.

Thank you Michael, for everything. When I can bear to, I'll listen to your podcasts again.

Misstabithabean · 09/06/2024 23:01

Thank you for starting this thread.
He inspired me to try fasting for health and many other little changes from listening to Just One Thing. Also the series on sleep has been very helpful. Everything sounds so easy and possible when he introduces it!
