Thought it would be nice to have a thread just to post how he impacted our lives.

i really appreciated his 5:2 diet. Only thing that made a difference.

Please keep the stories of his impact coming - it’s inspiring and incredible to read.

In his memory, I’m re-committing to standing on one leg when brushing my teeth and boiling the kettle. I’m also going to tackle my insomnia once and for all!

Edited

And squats while I wait for the kettle to boil. He started that off for me.

Caught dh crying in the kitchen. He'd just made fudgy bars from fast 800. I'm crying again now. I've never been so affected by the death of someone famous.

Girlofyourdreams · 10/06/2024 16:05

He just seemed like such a warm, intelligent, thoughtful man. If ever he was on the TV I would always leave it on because he was so engaging.

I've never actually felt so affected by the death of someone famous but I feel so very sad.

Girlofyourdreams · 10/06/2024 16:06

Feel as though there was so much more to come from him too.

DuneFan · 10/06/2024 16:15

Such a nice man who obviously believed in what he did, and made a big difference to so many people.

He always seemed to be enjoying himself and that made him very watchable and likeable.

I feel exactly the same, Rob Burrow and now Dr Mosley, both absolutely the best of society gone. It's overwhelmingly sad.

Dave Myers too. Decent men trying to help other people be the best of themselves.

Absolutely @Gorgonemilezola

PeachPairPlum · 10/06/2024 16:42

Very sad news. I wasn't into the fasting but listened to Just One Thing and thought it was very good.
I felt I genuinely trusted him to have fully checked out the science behind what he was saying.

powershowerforanhour · 10/06/2024 19:20

I didn't recognise the name and neither did DH, so I described what was written about his work and DH said, oh yes I know who they mean now, it's that nice gentle man.
So I listened to a Just One Thing podcast- the first I'd ever listened to- and immediately recognised his voice. The podcast was the first thing in the morning walk one, so I went for a walk before work this morning. Only managed to keep the speed of the Black Eyed Peas' "I've Got a Feeling" up for about 5 minutes but will try again tomorrow and make it my One Thing.

Sadsadworld · 10/06/2024 19:31

I've been trying to think what it was that made him so special?

Warmth, inspiring without being preachy, solid science/data behind everything. ' Just one thing' was just what I needed, when the overhaul required to become healthy seemed impossible, he just made me feel, yes actually I could give that a go !

I cannot believe how many people he reached, everyone I talk to seems to have made small alterations in their lives for the better/healthier, thanks to him.

What a giant of a man. He will be so missed.

JaneAustenshandbag · 10/06/2024 19:42

Great thread. I was genuinely saddened to hear of his loss. I was quoted in his 5:2 book talking about fasting on Mumsnet and received a free copy of the book in the post! I was influenced to start ADF after watching the first documentary he did on fasting. I’ve always enjoyed watching his shows and he came across as knowledgeable and personable.

Boyish good looks, a childlike enthusiasm and curiosity made him very attractive. So so tragic.

Nannyfannybanny · 10/06/2024 20:07

What a lovely thread! A MN first, everyone has something great to say. Me,he's got me standing on one leg, cold shower to improve immune system, trying to sleep better,a couple of different diet books.

janeljl · 10/06/2024 20:15

We've enjoyed his health programs for years but I started listening to his podcast on walks a couple of years ago. I'd had a really rough time both physically and mentally after having a baby and his friendly voice and happy approach to life really helped me when I needed it. I feel like his voice reached me at a really dark time and his advice made me want to take care of myself again.

I feel desperately sad for his family and shocked by how it happened.

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/06/2024 20:16

I have a couple of his books and always watched a tv show if he was on it. He just seemed so bloody nice - so knowledgeable and kind as well. You’d have gone for a drink with him and had a laugh too. A sad loss, I feel for his family and friends.

efeslight · 10/06/2024 20:23

Also feeling very sad about his death.
Haven't listened to his podcasts yet, but will start soon, he had a lovely distinctive voice, and as others have written, a twinkle in his eye.
RIP Michael

Nannyfannybanny · 11/06/2024 07:43

It had to happen, just looked at the "trending",out come the Michael Mosley bashers. So many different stories. I heard on the Radio 4 , news, the PM said"natural causes ". I cannot imagine a PM was arranged and carried out so quickly. Said"no sign of injury ",yet, apparently he fell 30ft on rocks, was partly covered by rocks, which is why he wasn't discovered, for so long. None of it makes sense. I hope it can be found out exactly what happened, and give peace and closure to his family.

Fabgranny · 11/06/2024 07:54

Discovered MM in 2012 when 5:2 became a thing - have followed every since. I am so much fitter and healthier than I ever thought I would be at my age - Dr M was 2 years older than me. I will probably live longer than I would have had I not 'met' him - his life has been tragically cut short. Can't explain to RL F&F how distraught I am - I am beyond heartbroken at his passing

Willmafrockfit · 11/06/2024 08:00

i appreciated his Just One Thing
also many many programmes, including the one on insomnia
i never did any of the 5/2 diets but know plenty who did successfully.

Very much loved man
condolences to wife and children

In a world where there is so much to worry about, most of which we can't do anything about, Michael Mosley gave us hope that there were some things we could change for the better. He was such a positive, encouraging presence, and the world just seems a bit darker without him.

I listened to his Just One Thing and he always came over as the encouraging fried telling you that you can do it, just keep trying and you'll get there.

It's tragic to think what he might have achieved and now won't. His work on diabetes alone will ensure a legacy for him.

NowyouhaveDunnett · 11/06/2024 08:42

I'm really sad he's gone. A lovely man who did so much good.

gloriagloria · 11/06/2024 08:52

I rarely feel sad when people in the public eye die, but this has really upset me. His "Just One Thing" was genius for using evidence to help people make healthy changes and his presentation was so warm and wise. I hope it's not disrespectful but I also really loved the Radio 4 "Dead Ringers" take-off of him - it always felt affectionate and just a bit of fun rather than undermining or taking the piss, and I used to hope he found it as amusing as I did.

WannabeHealthier · 11/06/2024 09:14

There is a tribute programme to him on BBC at 8pm tonight

I think the outpouring of tributes & gratitude to him have taken them by surprise. I honestly can’t think of many other broadcasters who have had such a lasting impact on the lives of so many. I hope he is properly recognised and honoured for his contribution to society.
