Thought it would be nice to have a thread just to post how he impacted our lives.

i really appreciated his 5:2 diet. Only thing that made a difference.

Nice thread. I'm really sad, it's just awful news. Genuinely brilliant man.

Zonder · 09/06/2024 23:05

Such a great guy - made it feel like being healthy was possible.

Appalonia · 09/06/2024 23:05

What a lovely thread. Like many, I'm genuinely saddened by his death. He seemed to really care about people and wanted to help them in a non judgemental way. The concept of intermittent fasting is so simple, easy to do and effective. It's great to hear how much he's impacted so many people.

and agree that the longevity he sought is actually going to happen through the ideas he popularised.

RIP Michael

aesoplover · 09/06/2024 23:08

I'm going to go and listen to all the Just One Thing podcasts - didn't know they existed.

I've learned SO much from this man and have passed on this knowledge to many people. Lots of people I know ask me about sleep remedies and I always mention the sleep studies he did as well as recommending prebiotics and turkey sandwiches!

I also learned so much about blood sugar from him.

Wonderful man and I'm so sad that he's gone.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 09/06/2024 23:08

Very sad today. I lost all
My baby weight thanks to the 5:2 diet and I really
Liked his presentation

RIP ❤️

lollipoprainbow · 09/06/2024 23:10

Felt sad about this all day, seeing his belongings being taken away on the boat heartbreaking.

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/06/2024 23:11

Just one thing was some of the most interesting health advice. I loved listening to him.

I feel very sad about Michael's untimely death. And wonder what else he have done.

Condolences to his family and friends.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 09/06/2024 23:14

I never actually did any of the things that he recommended but he had a very cheeky and uplifting manner and I enjoyed listening to him on the radio.

WithIcePlease · 09/06/2024 23:14

Loved him here

DD and I regularly count up our 'just one things' that we have done that day. Dsis and I have a bit of a timetable.

I loved listening to him. Too sad to do it for a while.

Echoing others, it's really saddened me although I didn't know him. He helped so many people

imfae · 09/06/2024 23:43

Thanks for the thread and condolences to his family and friends.

I think he left a lasting legacy for all the good work he did on the nation's health . I certainly lost weight on his fasting books ( too lazy to follow them recently ) . Also loved his do just one thing on radio4 . He came across as such a lovely caring man and was never pompous or patronising . He really had a zest for life and seemed to genuinely care about people's health .
He should have lived to a grand old age and it is very sad that he has gone . Daffodil

Halfemptyhalfling · 09/06/2024 23:47

The 'eat more protein in your forties' I've mentioned on here a couple of times was from him.

Justleaveitblankthen · 09/06/2024 23:52

Would have been listening to Just One Thing as I made a 2 hour journey today and just let the podcasts run. I can't face it yet 🥺
He would often mention Claire and involve his boys in his experiments (or sometimes try to 🙂) He adored his family.

Some of the Xmas/occasional specials are really worth a listen.
They are full length with really interesting guests.
Could be called: Just one 'More' thing?

His lovely, soothing voice is so ingrained in my head..
Such a tragedy 😞

MooFroo · 10/06/2024 00:21

Loved his energy, enthusiasm and lovely bright face and smile.
Will be listening to just one thing and devouring his content ❤️❤️

alrightluv · 10/06/2024 00:26

This thread has me in tears. It's lovely of you to start it though @Stopsnowing

Wisterialily · 10/06/2024 08:09

He has helped me immensely reduce my risk of type two diabetes, his latest book blood sugar diet, has transformed my health and life. I believe it's probably extended my life.

Also I first came across him during my early career when he produced a series called blood and guts history of surgery. I have used clips of that series every year since at work.

He is educational, inspirational wonderful man who will be sadly missed.

mollysfolly · 10/06/2024 09:47

I am so glad you have started this thread. Michael Mosley changed my life since 'eat, fast and live longer' was broadcast in August 2012. Covid got in the way a bit and I piled on the pounds. So today, in tribute, I'm back on the 5:2
[I wish he hadn't done that awful programme on Channel 4 a few months ago though]

GinandGingerBeer · 10/06/2024 10:17

In 2012 I gave up smoking and managed to clap on 3 stone in weight. Just couldn't stop eating and took snacks everywhere, even in my car and I never smoked in my car!
I started 5:2 in January 2013 and by Easter had lost 3 stone.
It was the early days of 5:2 and he'd often pop on the FB group and have a chat. He was such a lovely inspirational man.
Despite every bugger around me giving me grief on my "starving" days and questioning me endlessly it has only been in the last year of wfh/meno that I've put about 10lb on. So I maintained for 10 years.
I know what to do....
just gotta do it!
I hope his podcasts will remain available for a long time to come as I've never listened to them
His passing is such a massive loss in many ways and my thoughts are with his family.

tortiecat · 10/06/2024 10:18

Just coming on to echo what so many previous posters have said - I thoroughly enjoyed his TV programmes and regularly listened to the Just One Thing podcasts. I did not know him but he had such a twinkle in his eye and some of his tips have made a real difference to my health and wellbeing. My heart goes out to his wife, children and loved ones - may he rest in peace.

tortiecat · 10/06/2024 10:20

(Not the 5:2 diet, though, it's amazing how it works for some people but DH and I almost divorced after trying to follow it for just one week!!!)

Trickedbyadoughnut · 10/06/2024 10:24

I think he must have saved years of people's lives by shining a light on positive changes we can make, especially to reverse type 2 diabetes and obesity. So grateful to him for that personally.

Seemed such a warm and genuine person.

ssd · 10/06/2024 10:28

Another one who was really devastated about his death. And i don't follow celebrity culture. He just seemed a genuinely caring man. One of the best.
My heart goes out to his family.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 10/06/2024 10:30

I was married to a doctor and we both used to appreciate him (still do!), though my appreciation stretched more towards the 'Dammit, why didn't I marry Michael Mosley?" He was, apart from just being wonderful to listen to and full of good, sound advice, such a nice man. I can't even begin to imagine the sheer pain his wife and children are dealing with. The whole thing is just so damn sad. Of all people, he really had so much more living to do.

Els1e · 10/06/2024 13:24

I liked his programmes, not just the ones he presented but others he directed like Pompei. He made complex information easy to follow and understand. I’ve not listened to the Just one thing podcast but going to start. Condolences to his wife, family and friends. I never met the guy but felt incredibly sad and oddly tearful at his death.

Baklavamama · 10/06/2024 13:26

He was wonderful.
I can recommend the Persian love cake recipe in his Fast 800 book.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/06/2024 13:33

Iusedtobeapenguin · 09/06/2024 22:47

The blood sugar diet absolutely reversed my diabetes. Such a huge loss, a lovely man who almost certainly had so much more to give ❤️

I think that's the sadness for me. What would he have gone on to do?

What I found so inspiring was his insistence that you don't have to take big steps to improve your health, but that the little things have an incremental effect. That's much more relatable for people who struggle with knowing what they should be doing to improve their health and wellbeing but don't know where to start.

I'm surprised by how sad I feel about his death.
