OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nailpolish · 26/03/2008 20:48

wonder why they decided as a couple for HIM to carry the baby?

thats called having your cake and eating it IMO

wannaBe · 26/03/2008 20:51

also wonder whether things might change for him hormonally when the baby is born. right now he is a man, to all intents and purposes, but having a baby does strange things to one...

A friend of mine has a friend who was in a gay relationship with a transgender female to male who was mid hormone therapy. They conceived a child together. Don't know how the story ended...

OracleInaCoracle · 26/03/2008 20:56

his wife had a hysterectomy NP. (supposedly)

it has to be a hoax!

wannaBe · 26/03/2008 20:58

why though? he hadn't had the full surgery, so all he would have to do would be to stop taking the hormone treatments in order to get pg. Wonder how the wife would feel about that though

Just looked on snopes.com (urban legends pages). Can't find it there. Also wondering whether it's a hoax, as wouldn't be surprised if my 'friend of a friend' one is too.

NaughtyNigel · 26/03/2008 20:59

thats going to hurt - coming out.

FrannyandZooey · 26/03/2008 20:59

I don't quite get in what sense he is a man
he has had a mastectomy, but no other changes to his body and has not taken hormones for years
how does he still have a beard?

it doesn't offend me or upset me but I actually don't understand how he is legally described as a man? I understand he can choose to live as a man, but isn't he in fact a woman who has removed his breasts?

PanicPants · 26/03/2008 21:00

But he was born a woman so I suppose he has all the right equipment!

I was hoping it was the first ever male pregnancy - would have scared dp be saying he had to have the next baby!

OracleInaCoracle · 26/03/2008 21:01

exactly f&z. when i was pg with ds i had a bit of extra hair, but not that much. surely the pg hormones would stop him producing that much facial hair!

LittleMissBliss · 26/03/2008 21:01

I don't really like it at all, it's made my stomach turn. But each to their own. Just doesn't seem right to me. try explaining that to a child?!

OverMyDeadBody · 26/03/2008 21:01

Yeah but he's not really a man is he? He's a woman that has become a man through hormones and stuff, so inside it's all the same, so it's not that shoking really is it?

LittleMissBliss · 26/03/2008 21:01

pukka · 26/03/2008 21:02

isnt the female of the mammalian species the one who has the ability to have the baby? because if that is the case, then he is female, and the mother.
also, if the baby was conceived using his eggs, then surely he is genetically the mother, not just the surrogate?
granted, he is a transgender male, and has legal status as a male, (i dont understand how that comes about, but i dont know anything about american laws.)

i think it is amazing. the fact that as a couple they are so together, and that he is going back on the gender he rejected to carry a baby, which his wife unfortunatley cant do any more.
i have a lot of respect for transgender people. actually going through operations etc to change your very identity is a huge deal

FrannyandZooey · 26/03/2008 21:02

people get very upset if they aren't sure what gender a person is, aren't they? it seems to push a lot of buttons

this case doesn't upset me, but it perplexes me

Disenchanted · 26/03/2008 21:02

Hes not a man hes a woman.

A woman that looks like a man thats all.

Still has a vagina, normal birth ect.

Pictures really cool though, she does just look like a man. Does look wierd.

ladytophamhatt · 26/03/2008 21:03

he might be a man to look at but inside he's still a woman.

Its not that he's a REAL man whos PG, all the baby making bits ae still inside, so surely if the male hormone treatment stops, the female hormaons return....technically it's a woman who's got PG with help.

Or am I being really naive??

pukka · 26/03/2008 21:04

yes, but if he is legally a man, then that is what he has to be called. despite the fact that he has all the plumbing.
his wife has had a hysterectomy. that doesnt mean that you stop calling her a woman.

FrannyandZooey · 26/03/2008 21:04

well I think some transgender people choose to keep their original genitalia, that in itself doesn't make you a man or a woman, but I don't understand in what sense AT ALL this man is a man

except that he takes the role of a man in his life and relationships
but now he has become pregnant
hmmm

it raises a lot of interesting questions, doesn't it?

OracleInaCoracle · 26/03/2008 21:05

i just dont understand how the natural changes that happen in a womans body when she is pg can not affect him.

theUrbanDryad · 26/03/2008 21:06

so presumably he won't be able to breastfeed their child?

FrannyandZooey · 26/03/2008 21:07

the beard? anyone?
he stopped taking hormones years ago, it says

OracleInaCoracle · 26/03/2008 21:07

exactly the point i was making franny.

theUrbanDryad · 26/03/2008 21:10

could it be makeup? or photoshopped?
