I've heard it all now

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 26/03/2008 21:10

it could easily be photoshopped

pukka · 26/03/2008 21:11

thats what there business is called isnt it? 'define normal?'

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 26/03/2008 21:11

so wait...'he' is physically and genetically a woman? That is slightly less X-files...

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 26/03/2008 21:12

x-posts...I'm terribly slow

dooneygirl · 26/03/2008 21:13

I'm from Oregon. They had him on the news last night, and presented the story exactly as LTH suggested. I'm guessing (hoping?) they wouldn't have run it unless they verified it to be 100% true.

nailpolish · 26/03/2008 21:39

why is he legally a man? cos hes had his breasts removed?

nailpolish · 26/03/2008 21:39

he doesnt have a penis. he has a womb and a vagina. so WHY is he legally a man?

nailpolish · 26/03/2008 21:40

does he have an X and a Y chromosome?

argh!

Lulumama · 26/03/2008 21:46

he has female chromosomes.. he was born a woman

a piece of paper saying he is legally a man does not change the fact he has the sexual organs of a woman and is carrying a baby

allegedly

bonkers

nailpolish · 26/03/2008 21:51

the worlds gone mad lulumama

wannaBe · 26/03/2008 22:13

if he shaves he would be able to still have a beard without hormones. If you had facial hair and shaved it it would grow back thicker, and coarser, like a beard. so that could explain that.

The husband of a friend of mine changed gender and is now legally a woman, although he (she?) hasn't had surgery to remove her penis she takes hormones and now has breasts etc, and has legally been defined as a woman now. to the extent that their marriage had to be anulled because as a woman she cannot be married to another woman.

Not read the whole thread, ( desperate houswives about to start... ) sure i'm repeating what others must have already written, but, in what sense is he a man??? Totally ludicrous.
He ( she ) had breast tissue removed, and hormone injections to encourage facial hair growth, and to suppress menstruation.... SO, HOW IN GODS NAME IS SHE A BLOODY MAN????
Still has female chromosomes? ( I realise, something that can never alter in transgender "cases" - for want of a better word ) Still has female reproductive organs? No penis even? So, how is this so shocking, it is simply a woman getting pregnant!!! jeez... (i'm clearly not having a go at anyone here!)

I'm thoroughly open minded. Support anyone who chooses , or feels ( as is usually the case) that they were born into the wrong gendered body. I have no issues with any of this at all, beleive me. I cannot stress this enough. HOWEVER... I just feel this is a ridiculous story, there is no mystery, there is no question that they are lying, of course "he" can be pregnant, 'he' is still a woman! he still has a vagina, fallopian tubes, a uterus etc...

ok, i'll stop now, I think you all get my point!

SenoraPostrophe · 26/03/2008 22:17

a transgender man who didn't have his womb removed is not really a man in my book, hormones or no hormones. not sure I believe it though.

shaving does not cause hair to grow thicker, wannabe, it just makes it look thicker.

DforDiva · 26/03/2008 22:26

totally confused here. he is man with female genitalia and womb and thats legally?
and now pregnant?

LaDiDaDi · 26/03/2008 22:29

I'm a medic curently doing an endocrinology job and tbh even I'm not getting this at all.

zippitippitoes · 26/03/2008 22:31

er sounds like a woman to me

wannaBe · 26/03/2008 22:32

anyone who undergoes gender reassignment has to live as that gender for a period before it can be done.

although on the basis that he/she is still actually a woman, doesn't that make his wife a lesbian?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 26/03/2008 22:36

so do transgenders have to take hormone treatments for the rest of their life?

theUrbanDryad · 26/03/2008 22:40

if he/she doesn't have a penis, then yes - presumably they are having lesbian sexual relations rather than heterosexual. i mean, you can't give a "man" with no penis a blow job can you...?

choosyfloosy · 26/03/2008 22:42

TBH if I didn't spend large chunks of time in the bathroom with tweezers every day, I would have a beard too.

LaDiDaDi · 26/03/2008 22:44

I get the pregnancy bit but I don't understand how he still has such significant facial hair during pregnancy.

Scattybird · 26/03/2008 23:16

April the 1st is very soon.

3NAB · 27/03/2008 13:39

It is about to be discussed on ITV1 news after the current story.

Nbg · 27/03/2008 13:52

How the effing hell can he be stable and comfortable being the "man" he is?!!!

What a crock that is.

He was a woman that wanted to be a man, got married to a woman and is now pregnant, but is happy being a man.

Eh?

Anchovy · 27/03/2008 14:00

I don't find it that difficult to understand. The person in question was born biologically a woman and then underwent certain transgender processes which enabled/permitted them to be declared legally a man.

So if the law permits it (not sure it does in the UK) you can be biologically one gender and legally a separate gender.

Obviously your ability to have a child will be determined by your biological not legal gender.

The only bit that made me think the whole story was not being told (read it in the Times this morning) was that no fertitliy treatment etc was involved and that prior to this pregnancy they had had a triplet pregnancy. I found the idea of a spontaneous triplet pregnancy in someone who hasn't taken any fertility treatment unlikely - not impossible at all, beause it happened to aa friend of mine - but it is an extra level of unusualness which didn't quite stack up to my mind.
