Mumsnet in the Times

Here's a nice article about Mumsnet - make way for the newbies.

And blimey don't Justine and Carrie have a lot of children?

Cod, aithch littlelapin and morning are quoted!

pooka · 15/03/2008 09:40

You are a tribal elder!

slayerette · 15/03/2008 09:40

Imagine being described as a 'tribal elder' - take a bow, lapin, aitch, hunker and morningpaper. And as for cod, the 'alpha female'! We are not worthy!

pooka · 15/03/2008 09:41

I don't think they'll be able to take a bow. Dodgy knees and rheumatism and all that.

cornsilk · 15/03/2008 09:41

who posted the hamster comment then?

Twiglett · 15/03/2008 09:41

This consistent condoning of certain posters as a 'celebrity status' is really beginning to get my goat.

Although I enjoy every poster mentioned in that article I'm saddened that MNHQ continues to promote / condone 'celebrity mumsnetters'

Managed to get the rockets mentioned again, I see . Loved the comment that there are more Google searches for Mumsnet than there are for GF.

about the choice of regulars.

northernrefugee39 · 15/03/2008 09:45

don't offend your [snurk]- fanjo - at the same time as dampening the peace pipe morning

northernrefugee39 · 15/03/2008 09:46

so will the alpha mumsnetters be asked to write books now?

What a lovely article. I wish they had mentioned LL's Christmas appeal too!

i have a bonnet and everything

hatwoman · 15/03/2008 09:54

great article

cornsilk · 15/03/2008 09:56

Who will play Cod in 'Mumsnet the movie?'

slayerette · 15/03/2008 09:57

If we're playing Cranford, I would like to be the character married to Nigel Harman but without the drinking and domestic violence, obviously.

It's like being in the playground aged five sharing out who gets to be which Power Ranger!

morningpaper · 15/03/2008 09:57

Yes it was good article

Although I must say I'm only editing the first book

Then I'm going to lie down for five years and cackle at whoever is doing the next one

OP posts:
pooka · 15/03/2008 09:58

Angelica Houston?

Twiglett · 15/03/2008 09:58

God MP don't get me wrong .. I think you actually work .. you do the newsletter and now the books and that's great

but in recent months these particular posters getting newsletter bits and now a newspaper article mentioning 3 specific posters .. it is so against the initial mumsnet ethos .. in fact I think the article mentioned something .. I'll find it

"they all function on the principle that everyone has at least one thing that would be of interest and value to a wider audience. The wisdom of the crowd really is starting to look wise, all things told"

and

"Mumsnet?s official policy of not promoting any poster, however regular, to an editorial post, which would give them the power to delete any libellous post (only Roberts and Longton have this power), is a deliberate decision to keep this close sense of community. Roberts says: ?I don?t want there to be any ?us? and ?them? ? any cliques on the [message] board. We all have to be equal on there.?

the subsequent focus on elite posters goes against this stance IMHO
