I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

@HotSince82 I'm assuming your post will get deleted and I'm also going to make the fair assumption you're not a woman.

Anyone is allowed to withdraw their consent at any time during sex.

You can consent to start giving oral sex, then change your mind. Your partner starting to choke, then punching you in the stomach, indicates consent has been withdrawn.

And this is the very bare minimum. Healthy, well adjusted people, do not want to continue having sex with someone who is not continuing to enthusiastically consent (i.e., they look/sound like they're enjoying themselves).

There is forensic evidence of rape. Read the articles posted multiple times. Rapey McRapeyFace is a serial litigant and has successfully sued previously for so-called false allegations. Which now evidently aren’t false. The false reporting of rapes/sexual offences is vanishingly small, as is the commits to prosecution of all reported rapes. I’m too tired to look up the statistics again but you could do it for yourself - if you weren’t so entrenched in your beliefs that the women involved are making it all up.

This!!

I actually don't know what is more depressing;

he fact this rapist was allowed to get away with it or the women on this thread victim blaming.

Lalgarh · 16/09/2023 23:05

It's the snivelling hangers on and enablers that someone needs to keep an eye on.

Someone upthread mentioned the production staff who said they were openly procuring girls for the audience and for Brand to hit on felt like pimps, but that they enabled him. They did

Lesley Douglas the controller of 6music and radio 2 who in effect got him promoted . (Issued a Weren't Me Gov denial) Where is she now?

Matt Morgan the token sycophant sidekick who said he wasn't aware of anything. Am willing to bet he's some sort of tv industry hack now

verdantverdure · 16/09/2023 23:05

Well at least all the rape apologists, people who only pretend to care about women!s rights and protecting children, the fellow rapists and the incels are outing themselves.

So that's nice.

Isn't the next wave a bunch of tv women doing interviews where they point out that he never raped them?

Linsco · 16/09/2023 23:05

The responses on this thread are disgusting. God forbid any of you have daughters.

JamSandle · 16/09/2023 23:05

Quirkyme · 16/09/2023 22:26

Erm. You need to cut this male acquaintance out of your life tbh. Start with that.

No grown adult, let alone a man at that, should be asking a 6 year old this.

Like sorry but you need to take responsibility and protect your daughter and yourself from such people.

This isn't a giggling matter.

I agree. I wouldn't dream of saying such things to any of my friends children.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 16/09/2023 23:06

Well before I name change her again before no doubt being stalked and outed

I am the police . A female pc . Experienced and now a CID detective.

And when I was raped on a first date in 2015 , I told a colleague but didn't report it because I knew what would follow .

Would I trust police to get justice or protect me ?
No .
I try my best for others . I do . But I know my limitations.

Precisely this.

beatrix1234 · 16/09/2023 23:06

@nottaotter If 5 women have independently come forward and have not received any financial gain, what would their motive be?

And how do you know that?

It stops being consensual when someone says no, pal.

This.

I don't know what's more scary, the idea they have daughters who could become victims who confide in them or the idea they have sons they teach this shit to.

That if a girlfriend consents to sex with them at any point, they have free reign to do whatever they want to them sexually in future.

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2023 23:06

Already its being talked about how the BBC and Channel 4 are likely to have to face a Parliamentary Select Committee hearing to justify why no action was taken over multiple complaints.

This comes in the wake of Huw Edwards and Phil Scofield (which also had issues over complaints not taken seriously / standards in broadcasting / imbalances in power between stars and much younger members of the public).

In all these cases we see a massive age gap. And we see, standards over the behaviour of celebrities not be considered as an important issue. We also see a pattern of not telling because of fear of not being believed or threats to legally silence victims.

This needs to be taken more seriously by all media companies. ANY age gap relationship in media should start becoming an immediate red flag. Simply because of the risk of abuse of power is so significant.

Well I'm glad at least ONE other person was actually paying attention, cos from the look of this thread you'd be forgiven for thinking noone had....

I can't believe the on air interview with Jimmy Saville when he offers a female assistant to him, naked (after repeatedly making sexual comments and jokes about her live on air - which she complained about) .....and that was OK and approved by producers....

Its the careers of these people which should be looked at now. VERY HARD.

They should cope the fallout for it. Because thats the only way it'll ever change - by putting in accountability into the system.

If only that were true anywhere but on MN.

She'd be ripped apart in court.

Absolutely decimated.

Her word against his. And his expensive barrister.

HelloGoodbye92 · 16/09/2023 23:08

You have literally no grasp of the law whatever. I can only assume you are an apologist by your posts and I have no wish to engage with you further.

Consent can be withdrawn at any time that is the law.

MistyBean · 16/09/2023 23:10

Wtf is wrong with people on this thread. No one should assume consent for a blow job is consent to ram a penis so far into someone's throat whilst they gag and cry and try to push the guy off. Why are there so many rape apologists on here????

Nope
A female victim of rape.

Advance search me lovely

I know how the system works all too well.

JFC. I suppose they should have just shut the fuck up then and let him get on with it while they suffer in silence. It's really, really shit to have been assaulted and to not be able to tell anyone. The anger starts to corrode you the older you get.

Angrycat2768 · 16/09/2023 23:11

DonnaDonna0 · 16/09/2023 22:51

@Angrycat2768 TV and media have known about it for a lot longer than the last three years.
Yes they need to make sure it’s bomb proof but they should have started investigating it years before they did.
We’ve learned nothing from Savile.
They’re all scrambling now to be the first to break the story.

I agree with you. A more pertinent story woukd be about why producers, production companies, Channel 4, the BBC talent agencies etc didn't do anything about complaints, and whether this kind of thing is still going on in the industry ( I bet it almost certainly is). As the woman at the end said, if he had been sanctioned fir his behaviour at the start, maybe none of this woukd have happened.
