Air traffic control down over UK currently

Anyone else heard this? A national shutdown of air traffic control as system goes down.

Well..... yes, and that I'm sure will have been all part of the thinking/logic behind how this was handled by the ATC authorities.

Most of the Long haul flights involved today will have departed for the UK late last night/early AM British time..

jet2 are very good at not cancelling but are very delay prone. The planes fly all night this time of year so delays today will almost certainly cause knock on delays tomorrow unfortunately. For example the evening wave of departures at man today (which will be the same planes as the morning wave tomorrow) are almost all delayed and so will be delayed getting back to man late in the early hours. Hopefully there will be updated info this evening. But you will get away.

i suspect things will be clearer once the evening wave has actually left.

we got disrupted last year and I seem to recall they sent us (without asking) a £200 voucher for our next hols! We weren’t very delayed though, a couple of hours each way.

For info having heard rumours I've just had a look at Easyjet's departures status for the rest of the day from Gatwick and it doesn't look great (puts it politely)

They may have gone for putting a complete firebreak into the operation in a hope of having things back on the rails in the AM...

IME Easyjet are the first to just cancel loads of flights and making people rebook. A lot of destinations will have alternative options. But not all.

EasyJet also cancelled a lot from Birmingham Airport this evening.

We are due to fly to palma from Birmingham tonight at 22.55. Finally seen an update on Birmingham departures saying delay until 12.20 atm....absolutely no word at all from tui. Their flight tracker is still saying as scheduled but hasn't been updated since 1pm. We have no idea when to head to the airport atm.

Stressing me out big time this is

The Ryan air app is telling me my flight has been cancelled but I haven't had an email saying this ???
Also it says your flight today has been cancelled. But my flight is tomorrow morning. And on flight radar the departure board for East Midlands is showing it as still scheduled
Any ideas ??
I can't get in touch with Ryan air the phone lines are closed !

How confusing. I would look up your flight on the ryanair website - look for flight status. That should tell you if it’s going or not.

So sorry people are stuck we were so lucky left Mahon at 10 this morning and landed at Manchester fine. Must have just missed the worst of it feel so bad for people still stuck on a plane

I can see you flight on radar and it says due to depart 23.10. Now bhx airport departures might be more reliable but the good news is your plane is currently just about to arrive at Zakinthos, within an hour will leave to come back to bhx, which would make a midnightish departure about right. I’d get there by 9pm and you should be good.

@StillWantingADog thanks!! There's road works on our way too with road closure meaning a diversion so we have set off to avoid that!

I haven't had an email off Ryan air telling me my flight has been cancelled only the app is saying this ? Wondering if it's a glitch, especially considering it's saying 'today' when the flight is tomorrow morning.

Could anyone see if they could check the flight status for me please ? The flight number is FR0985

found the flight status and sadly it is cancelled
you should be able to rebook or get a refund via the app. There are two flights the following day so hopefully a chance you can be offered a seat on one of those ?

Thank you so much. Yes I finally received the email saying it's cancelled. Trying to book another flight, there is one weds at 17.35pm but when we click to select that one it's just blank and saying we need to check in for our new flights but they're not showing anywhere on the booking page !

I'm stuck in Europe - was supposed to fly back tonight but have been rebooked on the next available flight, which isn't until Wednesday night 😬
