Anyone else due to fly to Rhodes in the next week? We’re due to go next Tuesday, waiting to hear something from Jet2 as think our hotel may be one of those affected by the fire.

Pefkos and lindos now being evacuated

But insurance won’t pay out will it? Unless FCDO say don’t travel

What's that got to do with it? Would you really still go?! Have you seen the fire?!

RhodesHereWeGo · 22/07/2023 23:06

We actually boarded a plane early this afternoon - flight got delayed and delayed, and due to the ongoing wildfires a lot of passengers decided to disembark the plane, including us. 30K+ people are being evacuated in Rhodes now, even navy vessels involved. They cancelled the next plane to Rhodes.

Rollergirl11 · 23/07/2023 00:02

We are also meant to be flying to Rhodes on Tuesday. We are close to Rhodes town so a lot further north but I still can’t see that it will go ahead.

orangeleavesinautumn · 23/07/2023 01:39

Why would anybody be flying into a disaster zone for a holiday? I very much doubt you would be insured.

toomuchlaundry · 23/07/2023 01:46

I’m assuming FCO advice may change for Rhodes. If your hotel is damaged I assume you would be covered by insurance.

YankeeDad · 23/07/2023 02:22

I’m in the Rhodes airport right now waiting for a return flight to London, after having arrived well before the fires started. All of the flights in and out are delayed by at least a few hours and sometimes much more.

The fires’ trajectory is unpredictable and I think you might be better off not coming right now, given the enormous pressure on basic infrastructure (impassible roads, power cuts, emergency services being fully occupied). Depending where your accommodation is situated you might not be affected at all, or you might be severely affected.

VelvetLiesAndChickenPies · 23/07/2023 03:41

My gosh it's just absolutely terrifying watching the footage. Really feel for those affected. Holidaymakers, business owners, just can't even put it into words. 😭 Hope Rhodes is able to overcome this with no casualties.

mumlovesvodka · 23/07/2023 04:48

Check your airlines websites

BA are letting people change flights FOC

Jet2 have set up a helpline

Other airlines saying flights running as usual

YankeeDad · 23/07/2023 06:57

Airlines who say flights running as usual are mostly lying. Currently we have been waiting 12 hours at the airport hoping to leave, the organisation is chaotic, the plane is too small to take all the passengers so they are calling the lucky few one at a time to board, and the flight is only going to Athens instead of to London. All flights out of here are fully booked for the next 2 days.

Rollergirl11 · 23/07/2023 09:04

@YankeeDad are there flights still coming in to Rhodes?

Eggsley · 23/07/2023 10:00

Jet2 have announced they are cancelling all flights to Rhodes - they are flying 5 empty planes out to bring holidaymakers home today but I guess wind/air conditions will affect whether they can actually land in Rhodes.

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 10:00

I can't see TUI have said anything?

Eggsley · 23/07/2023 10:10

@blacknredsweeties I can't find anything about TUI flights at the moment, other than that they are operating as normal.

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 10:17

The hotel my kids are going to have people laid on the reception floors as they can't get home. Even if flights are getting there I wonder what will happen. It's awful for everyone 😥

mumlovesvodka · 23/07/2023 10:21

Jet2 have cancelled all planned flights for today

They are however going to fly the empty planes over to bring people home

Wendysfriend · 23/07/2023 10:23

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 10:00

I can't see TUI have said anything?

Tui just announced now flights cancelled

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 10:33

Only up until Tuesday

Eggsley · 23/07/2023 10:33

Yes just seen TUI have cancelled all flights to Rhodes up to and including Tuesday 25th July. Can't see they've said anything about flying people home but would have thought they will take the same stance as Jet2 and fly empty planes out to bring people home.

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 10:33

For now. Mine go Wednesday.

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 10:34

Well were.

Soconfusedandbroken · 23/07/2023 10:46

I wonder how long this poor island will be knocked out for. Damage to infrastructure and a hanging dust cloud. Anyone got any expertise on this kind of thing? We due to fly to the east coast on Rhodes in 3 weeks time ….

noglow · 23/07/2023 10:49

Even if your flight isn't cancelled you'd be stupid to go

RhodesHereWeGo · 23/07/2023 10:51

We are really glad we took the decision not to go. Feeling terrible for those who are stranded, everyone is desperate to come home.

toomuchlaundry · 23/07/2023 10:51

@noglow wouldn't be able to claim on insurance if you choose rather than be told not to go
